On Friday 29 May (also known as “doomsday” to those that took part) some hospitality industry tech leaders came together to do a number of different off-the-wall internet challenges. These unlucky participants all agreed to take part in order to give everyone in the industry a well-deserved laugh, and in aid of Hospitality Action. Here they tel us why they decided to participate.

Why I took part in the Hospitality Challenge for Charity
1. What made the #hospitalitylunaticleaders
want to support Hospitality
Action by doing crazy challenges?
2. I have been in hospitality since 1989 its given everything to me, its time
to give back
I started my career in hospitality around an evening fire, sharing local wines
and swapping tales with travellers from around the world. That should never
end. And sadly, for many properties, it stands to. Supporting initiatives that
offer to help our industry stay alive, seems like the only normal thing to do
right now. And have a laugh! We all need it.

After working in the hospitality sector for multiple years I felt I had to
combine my passion for technology with my love for hospitality. So taking
part and giving back is a no brainer for me.
3. D A V I D S W A N E P O E L
I am a cycling enthusiast, avid fly
fisherman and Windhoek draught
connoisseur. I am doing this to
support our industry colleagues in
need and I am bored as hell at
home.
S U Z I E G R O V E S
The hospitality industry is a huge part of my life,
both at work and at leisure. It seems only fair
that to raise money for those working in an
industry that provides so much comfort and
luxury, I should suffer through these challenges!
S A R A H C A M E
The hospitality industry plays such a
key role in the economy, with far-
reaching impact into so many other
sectors. That has never been more
clear than it is right now, but
hospitality workers find themselves
at the centre of the storm and with
the longest road back out. If I can
help in any way, I feel I should.

Waitressing a few years ago was a
lifeline to me as a single mum at the
time and now being on the tech side
of things I wanted to do something
for those that need the help and
also to support the people that
support us.
4. R O D R I G O T E I X E I R A
I love sports, traveling, a our hospitality
industry. And this is the time to help and
show solidarity with those who need it
most.

Our clients have been amongst the
hardest hit by Covid-19 and yet, they've
been the first to step up to help by
offering accommodation and food to
those who need it. This seems a small
gesture in comparison, but I hope it lets
our hospitality colleagues know that
we're here for them.
S O P H I E C A R T W R I G H T
I've worked within the hospitality sector
for 9 years now, and met some of the
most generous and genuine people
possible. This is a small gesture to be
able to give back - Hospitality Action are
a lifeline to many of our industry
colleagues.

Its time to give back and Hospitality
Actiondo amazing work to support our
hospitality colleagues who are struggling
during the Covid-19 crisis both with grants
and with ongoing mental health support.

The hospitality industry is where my career began, it
plays a huge part in my life not only professionally
but personally – I owe it a lot. If I can help support
the good work Hospitality Action are doing at this
difficult time, I will gladly suffer for your amusement!
