Maintaining website security is not expensive and can prevent costly attacks. Most small businesses underestimate security risks and the costs of attacks, which can cause days of lost sales and thousands in IT costs to remedy. Free updates, patches, and fixing code errors can prevent most attacks. Conducting security tests identifies priority risks that require few IT minutes to fix, saving tens of thousands in potential lost sales or customer payment data breaches. Addressing customer security concerns about fraud, theft, and privacy promotes trust and has a high return on investment. Regular security scans and maintenance fits within normal budgets and prevents significant new risks over time.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. Why conduct website security audit
1. Maintaining normal and reasonable security is not expensive - getting hacked is. Most site owners
underestimate the danger and overestimate the cost of securing their sites and servers against attacks.
Having a site taken down by malicious activity costs days worth of lost sales and thousands of dollars in
IT time.
Website Security: What is it Worth to You?
The vast majority of successful attacks are the result of using well known tricks against small and
medium size business sites that have simply failed to stay up to date. These disasters are easy to prevent
because the risks can be discovered though a competent scan and solutions often involve free updates,
widely available patches and easily fixed code errors. Your most serious security issues do not require
expensive repairs.
We conduct extensive tests for your site and provide the prioritized plan that you or your IT staff needs
to resolve risks according to their severity. With our help you can ensure that the attacks most likely to
be attempted and that are at the same time the easiest to fix get assigned the resources they deserve.
Fewer minutes of IT time directed at your most serious security risks could save you tens of thousands
in lost sales. Not to mention the cost should a hacker gain access to your customer payment card data!
Why Your Customers Care
Before a prospect becomes a customer they must trust you and be confident that you will carefully
handle their information. You'll spend a great deal of time and money ensuring that your product or
service is worthy of trust. Spend a tiny fraction of that investment on the security of your site and
equipment and get many times that in return. Address the hidden concerns that nearly all online
shoppers have:
• 87% of online shoppers are concerned about credit
card fraud.
• 85% of shoppers are concerned about identity
theft.
• 83% are concerned about sharing personal
information.
• 77% are concerned about spyware.
(Source: TNS Research)
Promoting the security of your site to prospects has one of the best returns on investment available. As
you consider the costs of all of the enhancements that you might add to your site, consider this:
Anything that benefits both you and your customers will produce the best return every time.
Scan, Correct and Get On With Your Business
Like any maintenance activity, site security is not hard or expensive when it is
kept up to date. The first scan is likely to reveal a backlog of issues that need to
be addressed. But once those are resolved, regular scanning will reveal relatively
few new risks, resolution of which will fit into your normal IT budget.
If you have any questions, call us.
If you have any doubts about your security, then get started for you to make sound decisions about
your site security.
Security is Priceless - Why conduct website security audit?
