This document discusses reasons for believing that Muhammad was a prophet appointed by God and that the Quran is a divine revelation. It presents counterarguments from non-Muslims and addresses them. Key points made include: Muslims believe God appointed Muhammad as he brought the Quran, which non-Muslims argue Muhammad wrote himself; to determine the Quran's source, the document examines Muhammad's background and challenges doubters to produce a similar work or find a comparable prophet. It also notes investigative questions the Byzantine emperor asked regarding Muhammad's character and message that indicated to him the likelihood of Muhammad's prophethood. The document ultimately argues it is up to each individual to reason on the evidence and decide whether to accept Muhammad and the Quran
2. Why not Muhammad SAW was just a
normal guy with a good character
preaching good things to other
people?
Why not he was just a good priest?
2
3. If you ask this question to some
Muslims, the common
answer would be :
• God (Allah) appointed him and mentioned in
the Quran.
3
4. But to an atheist / people from other
religions
• Muhammad SAW wrote the Quran
• Quran is not from God
• Thus Muhammad SAW appointed himself in
the Quran
4
5. So there is a dilemma. The same
occurred during Hudaybiyah
agreement.
5
6. • The Prophet (SA) agreed and ordered `Ali (SA) to
write accordingly. Then, the Prophet (SA) ordered
him to write: “
• This is a contract being concluded between
Muhammad, Allah's messenger and the
Quraysh". The representative for the Quraysh
objected saying: "We do not regard you as
Allah's messenger." Only your followers regard
you likewise. If we had regarded you as Allah's
messenger, we would not have fought against
you, nor had barred your entry to Makkah. Write
your and your father's name".
6
7. • The Prophet (SA) said: "Whether or not you
regard me as Allah's messenger, I am Allah's
messenger".
• Then, he ordered `Ali (AS) to write: "This is a
treaty being concluded between Muhammad
ibn `Abdillah and the people of Quraysh".
7
8. So why Muhammad SAW is a prophet
/ messenger from God?
To answer this question, we need to
answer why we say this person is this
and why that person is that.
8
9. Someone without a degree in
medicine cannot be a doctor.
Someone without a diploma/degree in
nursing cannot be a nurse.
Someone without PhD cannot be a
professor.
9
10. Nabi = prophet
Nabi is linguistically understood as
someone who have been given
revelation
10
11. What separates a prophet from a good
priest/person is that he brings the revelation
from God.
11
12. • The ‘certificate’ for someone to be a prophet
is the revelation from God.
• Thus in order for Muhammad SAW to be a
prophet, he must have ‘revelation from God’.
• And the revelation of God to Muhammad SAW
is The Quran.
12
13. Then why Quran is the revelation from
God and not just a normal book with
good life advices written by
Muhammad SAW?
13
14. • If you notice, ordinary books can be easily by
replicated by different authors.
• God is all-knowing, thus His style should not
be able to be replicated by human beings.
14
15. (1) Can you produce something similar to
Quran? It has been there for around 1400
years
15
• 2:23 And if you are in doubt about what We
have sent down upon Our Servant
[Muhammad], then produce a surah
(chapter) the like thereof and call upon your
witnesses other than Allah, if you should be
truthful.
16. Hurm, this doesn’t make sense… it’s
like Mozart claimed his songs were
from God because we cannot replicate
his songs..
16
17. Then you need to examine other
points
(2) Muhammad was unlettered
(unable to read or write)
• 7:157 Those who follow the Messenger, the
unlettered prophet, whom they find written
in what they have of the Torah and the
Gospel…
17
18. (3) Muhammad SAW never recited /
learned any scriptures before and
never write any book.
• 29:48 And you did not recite before it any
scripture, nor did you inscribe one with your
right hand. Otherwise the falsifiers would
have had [cause for] doubt.
18
19. (4) Allah asked to compare what is in
Quran with the previous scriptures
• 10:94 So if you are in doubt, [O
Muhammad], about that which We have
revealed to you, then ask those who have
been reading the Scripture before you. The
truth has certainly come to you from your
Lord, so never be among the doubters.
– *this verse is concerning on what happened
between prophet Moses and Pharaoh
19
20. (5) The Quran is in Arabic, while the other
scriptures are not, and the one that being
accused teaching Muhammad SAW didn’t know
how to speak Arabic. Thus Muhammad did not
copy from the previous scriptures.
• 16:103 And We certainly know that they say,
"It is only a human being who teaches the
Prophet." The tongue of the one they refer to
is foreign, and this Qur'an is [in] a clear
Arabic language.
20
21. So why Quran is revelation from God?
• From point 1, God challenged you to produce
something similar to Quran if you are in
doubt.
• If you can produce something similar or
better, it means the Quran is not superior and
can be written by ordinary man.
21
22. • And if you are still in doubt that Quran is from God,
the same one God… in point 2, 3, 4 and 5 God
challenged you to find a person other than prophet
Muhammad who is
– Unable to read or write
– Never learn about the Torah and Holy Bible
– Speak different language from the Jews /
Christians
– But able to mention about the previous prophets
and events mentioned in the Torah / Holy Bible.
22
23. • Both the Jews and Christian acknowledge that their
Torah and Bible is from God, the same one God.
• In Quran, God acknowledge the previous scriptures
have been sent down by Him.
• Some people accused Muhammad SAW copying the
Torah and Bible. But point no 2-5 is the evidence that
– It is not a copy but the Quran as well as Torah and Bible are
from the same source, the same one God.
– That’s why God asked Muhammad to ask the people of the
book (10:94) if he doubt the revelation he received is from
the same one God.
– How can someone that never learn Torah and Bible able
recite the same stories of the same prophets, except he is
receiving them from the same God?
23
24. If the Quran asked to check with the
previous scriptures (revelations), this
is some sort of approval to those
scriptures.
So why can’t I follow the current Torah
and Holy Bible?
24
25. • The reason to check / compare is to confirm
that what has been revealed to prophet
Muhammad, the Quran, is originated from
the same source, the same one God.
25
26. Why we can’t follow the current Torah and Holy
Bible is because they have issues with
authenticity.
• Narrated Abu Huraira
– The people of the Scripture used to read the torah in
Hebrew and explain it to the Muslims in Arabic. Then
Allah's Apostle said, "Do not believe the people of the
Scripture, and do not disbelieve them, but say, 'We
believe in Allah and whatever has been revealed...' (3.84)
• We don’t believe those scriptures are 100% false, but
we don’t believe it is 100% truth either.
• Kindly refer to my other video ‘Why Muslims Say That
The Bible is corrupt’
26
28. • If you still in dilemma, same goes to Heraclius
(Byzantine Emperor) when Abu Sufyan came to
see him and brought letter from Muhammad
SAW.
• These are the questions that Heraclius asked Abu
Sufyan, regarding Muhammad’s prophethood and
reason for those question.
• You may need to click pause in between the
slides.
28
29. • Heraclius said, "Bring him (Abu Sufyan) close to
me and make his companions stand behind him."
Abu Sufyan added, Heraclius told his translator to
tell my companions that he wanted to put some
questions to me regarding that man (The
Prophet) and that if I told a lie they (my
companions) should contradict me." Abu Sufyan
added, "By Allah! Had I not been afraid of my
companions labeling me a liar, I would not have
spoken the truth about the Prophet.
29
30. 1
• The first question he asked me about him was:
• 'What is his family status amongst you?'
• I replied, 'He belongs to a good (noble) family
amongst us.'
30
31. 2
• Heraclius further asked, 'Has anybody
amongst you ever claimed the same (i.e. to be
a Prophet) before him?'
• I replied, 'No.'
31
32. 3
• He said, 'Was anybody amongst his ancestors
a king?'
• I replied, 'No.'
32
33. 4
• Heraclius asked, 'Do the nobles or the poor
follow him?'
• I replied, 'It is the poor who follow him.'
33
34. 5
• He said, 'Are his followers increasing
decreasing (day by day)?'
• I replied, 'They are increasing.'
34
35. 6
• He then asked, 'Does anybody amongst those
who embrace his religion become displeased
and renounce the religion afterwards?'
• I replied, 'No.'
35
36. 7
• Heraclius said, 'Have you ever accused him of
telling lies before his claim (to be a Prophet)?'
• I replied, 'No. '
36
37. 8
• Heraclius said, 'Does he break his promises? Is
he a betrayer?'
• I replied, 'No. We are at truce with him but we
do not know what he will do with it.' I could
not find opportunity to say anything against
him except that.
37
39. 10
• Then he said, 'What was the outcome of the
battles?'
• I replied, 'Sometimes he was victorious and
sometimes we.'
39
40. 11
• Heraclius said, 'What does he order you to
do?'
• I said, 'He tells us to worship Allah and Allah
alone and not to worship anything along with
Him, and to renounce all that our ancestors
had said. He orders us to pray, to speak the
truth, to be chaste and to keep good relations
with our Kith and kin.'
40
41. 1
• Heraclius asked the translator to convey to me
the following,
I asked you about his family and your reply
was that he belonged to a very noble family. In
fact all the Apostles come from noble families
amongst their respective peoples.
41
42. 2
• I questioned you whether anybody else
amongst you claimed such a thing, your reply
was in the negative. If the answer had been in
the affirmative, I would have thought that this
man was following the previous man's
statement.
42
43. 3
• Then I asked you whether anyone of his
ancestors was a king. Your reply was in the
negative, and if it had been in the affirmative,
I would have thought that this man wanted to
take back his ancestral kingdom.
43
44. 4
• I, then asked you whether the rich people
followed him or the poor. You replied that it
was the poor who followed him. And in fact all
the Apostle have been followed by this very
class of people.
44
45. 5
• Then I asked you whether his followers were
increasing or decreasing. You replied that they
were increasing, and in fact this is the way of
true faith, till it is complete in all respects
45
46. 6
• I further asked you whether there was
anybody, who, after embracing his religion,
became displeased and discarded his religion.
Your reply was in the negative, and in fact this
is (the sign of) true faith, when its delight
enters the hearts and mixes with them
completely.
46
47. 7
• I further asked whether he was ever accused
of telling lies before he said what he said, and
your reply was in the negative. So I wondered
how a person who does not tell a lie about
others could ever tell a lie about Allah.
47
48. 8
• I asked you whether he had ever betrayed.
You replied in the negative and likewise the
Apostles never betray.
48
49. 9&10
• "And I asked you if you fight with each other,
and you stated that you did, and that your
fortunes in war alternated, now in his favor,
now in yours. And so are all Messengers tried,
and final victory will be his.
49
50. 11
• Then I asked you what he ordered you to do.
You replied that he ordered you to worship
Allah and Allah alone and not to worship any
thing along with Him and forbade you to
worship idols and ordered you to pray, to
speak the truth and to be chaste.
50
51. • If what you have said is true, he will very soon
occupy this place underneath my feet and I
knew it (from the scriptures) that he was
going to appear but I did not know that he
would be from you, and if I could reach him
definitely, I would go immediately to meet him
and if I were with him, I would certainly wash
his feet.'
51
53. • So why Muhammad is a prophet? Because he
had brought the revelation from God, the
Quran.
• Why Quran is the revelation from God?
Because the 5 points we presented just now, if
you are in doubt.
53
54. • But at the end of the day, it is YOU who need
to reason on those 5 points and decide
whether you want to accept or not whether
– Quran is the revelation from God
– Muhammad SAW is a prophet
• And the responsibility for your decision is fully
yours.
