Symantec's Internet Security Threat Report for the Government SectorSymantec
Symantec has established the most comprehensive source of Internet threat data in the world through the Symantec Global Intelligence Network, which is made up of more than 41.5 million attack sensors and records thousands of events per second. This network monitors threat activity in over 157 countries and territories through a combination of Symantec products and services such as Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System, Symantec Managed Security Services, Norton consumer products, and other third-party data sources.
In addition, Symantec maintains one of the world’s most comprehensive vulnerability databases, currently consisting of more than 60,000 recorded vulnerabilities (spanning more than two decades) from over 19,000 vendors representing over 54,000 products.
Spam, phishing, and malware data is captured through a variety of sources including the Symantec Probe Network, a system of more than 5 million decoy accounts, Symantec.cloud, and a number of other Symantec security technologies. Skeptic, the Symantec.cloud proprietary heuristic technology, is able to detect new and sophisticated targeted threats before they reach customers’ networks. Over 8.4 billion email messages are processed each month and more than 1.7 billion web requests filtered each day across 14 data centers. Symantec also gathers phishing information through an extensive anti-fraud community of enterprises, security vendors, and more than 50 million consumers.
Symantec Trust Services provides 100 percent availability and processes over 6 billion Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) look-ups per day, which are used for obtaining the revocation status of X.509 digital certificates around the world. These resources give Symantec analysts unparalleled sources of data with which to identify, analyze, and provide informed commentary on emerging trends in attacks, malicious code activity, phishing, and spam. The result is the annual Symantec Internet Security Threat Report, which gives enterprises, small businesses, and consumers essential information to secure their system effectively now and into the future.
Welcome to the Threatsploit Report of covering some of the important cybersecurity events, incidents and exploits that occurred this month such as Application Security, Mobile App Security, Network Security, Website Security, API Security, Cloud Security, Host Level Security, Cyber Intelligence, Thick Client Security, Threat Vulnerability, Database Security, IOT Security, Wireless Security.
The three main categories of the data network environment effecting IT security are all undergoing major change simultaneously. In the year ahead, these changes will manifest themselves as security challenges. These trends fall into three categories: client devices (the consumerization of IT); the external threat environment (the institutionalization of threat development); and the hosting environment (virtualization). Any one of these dynamics should shade the thinking of IT strategists inside companies and other organizations. Taken together, they may spur major re-evaluations of current practices.

Abstract
This paper aims at discovering the methods of securing native mobile applications and the probable threats they can experience in the advancing world of technology. Any kind of software, ranging from desktop to mobile applications, is believed to have defects that can lead to susceptibilities. These weaknesses, when subjugated, may bring in threat to the integrity, privacy, and accessibility of the software. However, various security auditing strategies might aid to minimize at a specific degree the level of confidence these risks have. With the outburst of mobile applications for day to day activities such as checking email, social networks, news, managing bank accounts, ensuring a satisfactory level of application security becomes essential for the usage and reliance of mobile services. This research identifies the effective analysis factors that can help the daily mobile application users to identify mobile risks as well as a probable methodology to security audit mobile software applications. The advancement in information technology and applications has increased the access of sensitive information such as International Mobile Equipment Identity Number (IMEI) of device, credit and debit card information, location information and login credentials thus the need to secure vulnerable applications from authorized access.
Introduction
Mobile application expansion in various platforms is based on functional and non-functional rations. Different types of platforms exist to organize mobile applications with distinctive private policies (Jing, Ahn, Zhao & Hu, 2014). This paper aims at highlighting mobile application security for native apps such as navigation programs and social media, for instance, Waze and Twitter respectively, and the methodologies that help reduce these security threats.
Analysis Blocks to Identify Mobile Risks
There are several risks identified by where frequent faults are found and how they can be surfaced during an application security auditing. These risks are associated with different factors such as attack vectors, aggressive agents, weaknesses, technical impact, and business impact. To demonstrate, weak server-side controls regards the threats from a third-party mechanism like extremity servers necessary for most mobile applications (Jing, Ahn, Zhao & Hu, 2014). This threat includes defenseless server arrangement, authentication errors, session supervision flaw, and access control weaknesses. Further, insecure data storage regards the possible risks created by weaknesses on the data storage in the mobile device which can lead to information leakage. Inadequate transport layer protection recognizes assailability such as non-encrypted transport layer communications, the application of susceptible cryptographic algorithms and recognition of illegal ...
ulnerability assessment is the process of identifying, quantifying, and prioritizing vulnerabilities in a system, network, or application. It involves analyzing potential weaknesses that could be exploited by attackers to compromise security.
Mobile devices, specifically smartphones, have become ubiquitous. For this reason, businesses are starting
to develop “Bring Your Own Device” policies to allow their employees to use their owned devices in the
workplace. BYOD offers many potential advantages: enhanced productivity, increased revenues, reduced
mobile costs and IT efficiencies. However, due to emerging attacks and limitations on device resources, it is
difficult to trust these devices with access to critical proprietary information. Therefore, in this paper, the
potential attacks of BYOD and taxonomy of BYOD attacks are presented. Advanced persistent threat (APT)
and malware attack are discussed in depth in this paper. Next, the proposed solution to mitigate the attacks
of BYOD is discussed. Lastly, the evaluations of the proposed solutions based on the X.800 security
architecture are presented.

We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

How to reduce security risks to ensure user confidence in m-payments

Whitepaper
SQS – the world’s leading specialist in software quality
How will Security Testing help to
reduce risks and build customer
confidence in mobile payments
An insight to successful strategies beating the challenges of complex systems
Introduction
Despite the rapid rise in the use of mobile devices in almost
every aspect of our lives, the growth of m-payment solutions
is relatively slow and security concerns are one of the biggest
reasons for this. A survey of 2,000 UK consumers in 20131
,
found that fewer than one in four would use their smartphone
for m-payments. Moreover, 80 per cent cited fears about the
security of their personal and financial information as the biggest
obstacle to using m-payments systems.
With so much sensitive information available via mobile devices,
any weakness in m-payment system securities provides opportu-
nities for skilled and well-resourced cyber-fraudsters and criminals.
As the industry develops, standards must be high to prevent
massive leaks of data, money or confidence. Some organisations
are racing to grab market share but as the November 2013 launch
of the European Central Bank’s consultation on the security of
m-payments illustrates, security best practice is still evolving2
.
The complexity of the mobile supply chain and its ecosystem
presents major challenges. That is why, to protect these systems,
security professionals need to consider the impact of multiple,
sometimes public, network infrastructures, and the unique
vulnerabilities of different mobile device operating systems
alongside more traditional payment security considerations.
This paper examines the:
• Nature and impact of the threats and risks for m-payment
systems
• Risks and issues introduced by the supply chain and the
complex mobile landscape
It also presents details of an approach to testing and quality
assurance which was focused on security and designed to help
an organisation reduce its potential exposure to these risks.
