One long blast signals attention or stop, three short blasts followed by one long blast calls patrol leaders, and three long blasts indicates danger. Two short blasts means all is well while four long blasts signals to disperse or extend formation. A succession of long and short blasts is the call for mealtime. Hand signals are also used to direct formations, call leaders or patrols, and instruct scouts to sit, stand, lie down, move faster, or gather or disperse.
