Where Might A Trailer Be Seen? How Will Different Formats Affect The Viewing Of The Trailer?
1. WHERE MIGHT A TRAILER BE SEEN?
HOW WILL DIFFERENT FORMATS
AFFECT THE VIEWING OF A
TRAILER?
2. WHERE MIGHT A TRAILER BE SEEN?
• At the cinema (before the film that you paid to see)
• On YouTube (as the trailer you want to watch)
• On YouTube (as an ad before the video you want to watch)
• On a website (as a banner ad or side ad)
• On social media (as a shared link)
• On a DVD (before the main film)
3. DIFFERENT FORMATS
• HD Television
• Standard Television
• Big Screen
• Small Screen
• With Headphones
• Out Loud
• With Friends
• Alone
• In The Dark
• In The Light
4. HD TELEVISION V. STANDARD
TELEVISION
If you were watching any film trailer on a HD television, you would be
able to see more detail, and the overall picture would be clearer. I
think that the trailer would feel more realistic on a HD television, as a
standard television would be slightly blurred/pixelated.
BIG SCREEN V. SMALL SCREEN
I think watching a trailer on a bigger screen (e.g. at the cinema),
would be better, as the viewer would feel more involved. If you were
watching the film trailer on a small screen (a laptop or small TV), you
would be able to see you surroundings and they would remind you that
the trailer you are watching is not real. A bigger screen would involve
you in the action.
5. WITH HEADPHONES V. OUT LOUD
If you chose to watch the film trailer using headphones, I think you
would feel more absorbed in the action and what is happening in the
trailer. You would forget about your reality and become more
submerged in the trailer. However, if you played the trailer out loud,
you would be able to hear other sounds, limiting your focus on the
trailer.
WITH FRIENDS V. ALONE
Watching the film with friends would be more distracting, as you may
talk or laugh. You wouldn’t concentrate as much as with friends
compared to watching it alone. If you were alone, you may feel more
scared (if you were watching a horror trailer) and you would be able to
focus on the trailer more, becoming more absorbed in what is
happening.
6. IN THE DARK V. IN THE LIGHT
Watching in the dark would make you focus in the trailer, rather than
your surroundings. Also, with a horror trailer, the darkness makes it
scarier and it may make you jump more easily. If you were watching in
the light, you would be reminded of your surroundings and not focus
fully on the trailer.
