AS EDUCATORS OUR JOB IS TO MAKE SURE TODAY’S STUDENTS ARE PREPARED FOR THIS CHANGING WORLD. TO DO
THIS WE CAN’T JUST LECTURE STUDENTS AND EXPECT THEM TO BE ENGAGED IN LEARNING. STUDENTS NEED TO BE
ALLOWED TO DECIDE THEIR OWN LEARNING PATHWAY AND CHOOSE HOW THEY WANT TO COLLECT AND COMBINE
WHAT IS TAUGHT WITH TECHNOLOGY AND DIGITAL TOOLS. AS EDUCATORS WE NEED TO PROVIDE THESE
SIGNIFICANT LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS.
WE NEED TO FOCUS ON OUR WHY AND THE NEED TO CREATE SELF-DIRECTED LEARNERS THAT WILL ONE DAY BE OUR
LEADERS. EDUCATORS MUST HAVE SOME INDEPENDENCE TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS THE WAY THEY FEEL WHAT IS
SUITABLE. THE SENSE OF URGENCY WILL INCREASE WITH THIS INDEPENDENCE AND TEACHERS ARE GIVEN THE
CHANCE TO TEACH HOW THEY WANT. IN TODAY’S CLASSROOM TEACHERS ARE CONSTANTLY RUNNING INTO
ROADBLOCKS WITH ADMINISTRATION TELLING THEM WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO WITHOUT A WHY. THAT CAN CAUSE
TEACHERS TO BECOME FED-UP. IN CREATING A SENSE OF URGENCY AROUND THE WHY AT THE ADMINISTRATIVE
LEVEL AND GIVE TEACHERS MORE FREEDOM TO TEACH HOW THEY WANT, THEN THE HOW WOULD BECOME CLEAR
AND STRESS-FREE. THIS WOULD GUIDE US TOWARDS A STRONG SENSE OF URGENCY DISTRICT-WIDE AS WELL AS
LOWER COMPLACENCY AMONG THE STAFF.
