2. Seeking Advice
Consider:
• the disclosure
• the age of the child,
• the context. and
• any known risk factors .
Seek advice from:
• Safeguarding officer in your organisation
• Senior person or supervisor
• Child protection services
• Polic Child Abuse Team
• Social Worker
Remember the greatest threat to safety is silence
3. Always seek advice if any of these factors are
present:
• Indicators of harm are apparent
• there are risks of harm to an unborn baby
• A parent is unable or unwilling to protect their
child
• Inappropriate or harmful behaviours towards
a child
• Disclosure of child abuse or risk of harm
• Concern for ANY Reason about the wellbeing
or safety of a child.
4. Child Protection Services
To protect children you must report any significant concerns you have
about a child's safety.
Contact Child Protection Services if:
• injuries seem suspicious or are clearly the result of abuse
• Interaction between child and parent/caregiver seems angry,
threatening or aggressive
• domestic/family violence has been witnessed or disclosed
• a child or another person has made a disclosure of child abuse.

• A child or young persons is in need of
immediate medical attention
• A crime has just been or is about to be
committed
• A child or young person has caused, or is
about to cause, serious harm to self or others
