Transformational leadership is a leadership
style that focuses on inspiring and motivating
followers to achieve a higher level of
performance and personal growth. It involves
creating a vision and engaging employees in a
shared mission to achieve it, while also
fostering individual creativity and autonomy
Four key components of
transformational leadership
Idealized influence
 Being a strong role model
 High standards of moral and ethical
conduct
Inspirational motivation
 High expectations
 Inspiring followers to commitment to a standard vision
Intellectual stimulation
 Stimulating followers to be creative and innovative
 Develop innovative ways of dealing with organization
issues
Individual consideration
 Listening carefully to the needs of
followers
 Helping followers grow through
personal challenges
The Leadership Practices Inventory
(LPI) is a tool developed by James
Kouzes and Barry Posner to assess an
individual’s leadership behaviors and
practices. It is based on their leadership
model, which they presented in their
book “The Leadership Challenge.”
Five exemplary practices
1.Model the Way: This practice involves setting an
example for others by clarifying values and beliefs, and
aligning actions with those values. It includes behaviors
such as setting goals, demonstrating consistency, and
holding oneself accountable.
2. Inspire a Shared Vision: This practice focuses on creating
a compelling and inspiring vision of the future. It involves
engaging others in the vision, communicating it effectively,
and helping others understand their role in achieving it.
3. Challenge the Process: This practice encourages leaders
to challenge the status quo and seek out opportunities for
innovation and improvement. It includes behaviors such as
questioning assumptions, experimenting with new ideas, and
taking calculated risks.
4. Enable Others to Act: This practice emphasizes the importance
of fostering collaboration and building trust among team members. It
involves empowering others, promoting teamwork, and providing
support and resources for their success.
5. Encourage the Heart: This practice involves recognizing and
celebrating the contributions and achievements of others. It includes
behaviors such as giving praise and appreciation, providing feedback,
and fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
