Open source and Open web (Mozilla) MozCampKashmirTanzeel Khan
The document discusses open source software and the open web. It defines open source software as publicly available source code that can be viewed, edited, shared, and redistributed without restrictions. Examples provided include Firefox, Ubuntu, Linux distributions, and Android. The benefits of open source discussed are that it allows for community development, innovation, creativity, and prevents software piracy. The document argues that today's web is not truly open, as corporations control technologies and implementations are hidden, limiting cross-platform use. An open web based on open standards that anyone can contribute to is advocated for.
- Open source is more than just free software - it enables innovation and collaboration through software freedom and leaving users in control.
- To know if software is truly open source, you should check for an open source license that grants users permission to use, modify, share and improve the software without restrictions.
- Open source is valuable because it allows users to start from others' work, stay in control of their resources, share maintenance costs, and influence global ecosystems through collaboration.

The Apache Way - Dataworks Summit 2017Brett Porter
The Apache Way is a phrase used to describe the style of community-led development that characterises projects at the ASF. This talk covers how the ASF is structured to support that, how we apply The Apache Way, and why that has led to such successful projects.

Summit 16: The Practice of Building OPNFV User Group in ChinaOPNFV
The Practice of Building OPNFV User Group in China(Liang(Kubi) Gao) - when we talking about community, community is about relationship. We developing community by developing relationship. So building user group is an important thing for OPNFV Community. In this presentation, Liang Gao will review recent OPNFV meetups in China. and introduce their practice to build user group in China, including(meetup.com, WeChat group, WeChat Official Accounts and so on) ,and will show the plan of building user group in China.
Tristan Nitot discusses the open web approach and how Mozilla promotes openness, innovation and opportunity on the web. He notes that developing for desktops and mobile is challenging due to multiple operating systems, form factors, tools and APIs. However, the web is the platform of choice as it runs on all devices and is easier for distributing and updating applications. While the app stores provide discoverability and monetization, the open web allows multiple app stores and selling directly from a developer's website while maintaining compatibility with modern browsers.
This document discusses how the OpenResty Chinese community was built from scratch over the past year. It started as an accidental project with the goal of writing two open-source books and giving one talk. This far exceeded expectations by gathering 3,000 engineers in a QQ chat group. Online video courses were also created. A legal charity foundation called OpenResty Software Foundation was established in Hong Kong and mainland China to link companies and further develop the growing community. The rapid growth is attributed to trends in mobile internet, startups, and cloud computing driving demand for technical communities in China. Keeping the community focused on contributions beyond just code and unbiased discussions helps it continue developing in a way respectful of Chinese culture.
What’s Driving Open Source (for MyGOSSCon)Simon Phipps

The Journey of Apache ManifoldCF: Learning from ASF's SuccessesPiergiorgio Lucidi
Every ASF project has a story to tell and behind a story we find people contributing with a real love in technologies.
They share the Open Source philosophy and this honest commitment in terms of personal effort for achieving any kind of improvement for the project means that there are individual contributors following a common light: The Apache Way.
Piergiorgio will describe the path taken by the Apache ManifoldCF Community for getting these results, starting from the incubation process to the promotion as Top Level Project and then engaging new contributors.
Finally Piergiorgio explains how the Community can help with a huge benefit also in the strategic view for a project.
Each contributor shares his own specific expertise on the field and his technological sensibility will bring added value until to drastically improve the scope of the entire project. Listen to the Community!
The document discusses OpenNTF's plans to expand its open source efforts beyond Notes/Domino by creating new branches focused on different technologies. It proposes that a new branch called Darwino.org be created to support the Darwino product and build an open source community around it. OpenNTF would provide infrastructure and processes to host Darwino.org projects while Darwino would commit resources like content and support. The goal is to diversify OpenNTF's projects beyond its current Notes/Domino focus.
IPv4 addresses have run out globally and regionally in Latin America and the Caribbean. There were only 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses allocated in the early 1980s but the exponential growth of the internet caused exhaustion of free addresses. While IPv4 exhaustion policies have provided a soft landing period for additional allocations, IPv6 adoption is necessary going forward as it provides over 340 trillion trillion trillion unique addresses. Major networks like Google and Facebook already use IPv6 to deliver a portion of their traffic without NAT, and global IPv6 traffic is growing as more networks deploy the new protocol. The transition to IPv6 is inevitable for networks to continue expanding in the future.
Mozilla's mission is to promote openness, innovation and opportunity on the web. They are a global community of technologists, thinkers and builders working collaboratively across an open platform to keep the internet accessible and allow people worldwide to be informed contributors and creators. Mozilla believes this collaboration is essential for individual growth and collective future. The document provides information on areas for contribution including localization, coding, and quality assurance. It also describes the Firefox Student Ambassador program which encourages students to lead campaigns promoting Mozilla's products and mission.

HijackLoader Evolution: Interactive Process HollowingDonato Onofri
CrowdStrike researchers have identified a HijackLoader (aka IDAT Loader) sample that employs sophisticated evasion techniques to enhance the complexity of the threat. HijackLoader, an increasingly popular tool among adversaries for deploying additional payloads and tooling, continues to evolve as its developers experiment and enhance its capabilities.
In their analysis of a recent HijackLoader sample, CrowdStrike researchers discovered new techniques designed to increase the defense evasion capabilities of the loader. The malware developer used a standard process hollowing technique coupled with an additional trigger that was activated by the parent process writing to a pipe. This new approach, called "Interactive Process Hollowing", has the potential to make defense evasion stealthier.
