GRE & TOFEL
GRE :
• The full form of GRE is Graduate Record Examinations.
• It is a standardized test conducted by ETS (Educational Testing Services).
• ETS GRE scores are accepted by most of the top graduate level schools for
masters degree programs (like the popular Master of Science degree – MS in
USA).
• GRE scores play a vital role during the admission process since many of the
universities assess a student’s caliber through the same.
• It is suggested that you prepare well for GRE if you are aspiring to gain
admissions in any of the top universities in the US, Canada, UK and other
countries.
• The admissions committees of certain universities however review the entire
application of the student and not only their GRE scores.
• This includes - an impressive SOP (Statement of Purpose), LOR (Letters of
Recommendation) by influential individuals in your organization

drsudeeshshetty@gmail.com 13
TOEFL:
• Toefl is one of the two major English-language tests in the world,
the other being the IELTS.
• TOEFL is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), a
private non-profit organization, which designs and administers
the tests.
• The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), is an English
language proficiency exam produced by the ETS, the same
organization that produces the GRE.
• The TOEFL is used to measure the English skills of non-native
speakers hoping to attend an English-language school (either
undergraduate or graduate)
drsudeeshshetty@gmail.com 14
IELTS :
• The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS™,
is an international standardized test of English language
proficiency for non-native English language speakers.
• IELTS assesses all of your English skills — reading, writing,
listening and speaking, and is designed to reflect how you will
use English at study, at work, and at play, in your new life abroad
• It is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia
and Cambridge Assessment English, and was established in
1989

Do What Makes u happy but…..
Hedonistic(epicurean)
• Hedonism is a school of thought that argues that the pursuit of pleasure and intrinsic goods
are the primary or most important goals of human life.
• A hedonist strives to maximize net pleasure. However upon finally gaining said pleasure,
happiness may remain stationary
• person who seeks pleasure above other values
• The paradox of hedonism, also called the pleasure paradox, refers to the practical difficulties
encountered in the pursuit of pleasure. Unfortunately for the hedonist, constant pleasure-
seeking may not yield the most actual pleasure or happiness in the long run—or even in the
short run, when consciously pursuing pleasure interferes with experiencing it.
The utilitarian
• Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that states that the best action is the one that maximizes
utility, which is usually defined as that which produces the greatest well-being of the greatest
number of people, and in some cases, sentient animals
Altruism
• Altruism is being devoted to the good of others.
• There is the concept and philosophy of altruistic and ethical hedonism.
Anhedonia
The inability to feel pleasure in normally pleasurable activities.
