MyPortfolio is a free eportfolio and social networking system for students at Unitec. It allows students to store and display digital artifacts like essays, artwork, and other works. Students can control who views different artifacts by organizing them into pages and setting access permissions for each page. This allows students to showcase their work to potential employers, friends and family, and tutors through customized pages with different intended audiences. The work stored in MyPortfolio is private by default, but students can choose to make select pages or artifacts publicly visible.
2. Welcome to MyPortfolio. Here you will
find instruction and inspiration on how to
use your eportfolio. MyPortfolio is free for
all students at Unitec and what’s more,
you can take your portfolio with you after
you graduate. Login is easy, your Moodle
login is your MyPortfolio login, no need to
sign in or create a new account.
3. What is MyPortfolio?
At the simplest level, MyPortfolio is two
things: an eportfolio and a social networking
system combined. An ePortfolio is a system
in which students can record “evidence of
lifelong learning” – such as essays, artwork
or other such things they produce that can be
stored digitally. Such things are known
as artifacts in MyPortfolio. Social networking
systems need little introduction – think Bebo
or Facebook. Basically, they give a way for
people to interact with their friends and
create their own online communities.
4. With MyPortfolio, you control which items and what information within
your portfolio other users see. Such items and information are termed
artifacts. To facilitate this access control, all artifacts you wish to show to
other users need to be arranged into one area. In MyPortfolio this
compilation of selected artifacts is called a ‘page’. You can have as
many pages as you like, each with a different number of artifacts,
intended purpose and audience. Your audience, or the people you wish
to give access to your page, can be added as individuals or as a
member of a group. It can even be made publicly available.
For example you could create:
a page for your friends and family that includes holiday photos and a
personal journal
a page for your tutor, which includes assessments and your reflective
learning journal
a page to showcase your best pieces of work and your résumé for
potential employers
A single page or a collection of pages can make up your portfolio.
Unless artefacts are placed in a page, they are not visible to anybody
but you. You can use files that you uploaded or journal entries you wrote
in as many pages as you wish. You only need one copy of your artefact.
5. The work you create, upload and display to
MyPortfolio is private by default until you decide to
make it visible.
The only exception to this rule is whatever content
you have on your profile page. Your profile page is
visible to everyone at Unitec who is logged into
Myportfolio and acts as an online representation of
you, your skills, and your attributes.
You can use this page to promote your skills to
potential employers or to advertise your desire to
collaborate with others on projects.
