Medan is the capital of North Sumatra province in Indonesia. Founded in 1590 as a small village called Medan Putri, it grew into an important trading port located at the convergence of the Deli and Babura rivers. Today, Medan is the third largest city in Indonesia and received an Adipura award in 2004 for its status as a metropolitan city. Popular attractions include Maimoen Palace, Grand Mosque Al Mansur, and Asam Kumbang Crocodile Park, while signature dishes to try are Padang satay, durian fruit, and marquisa cake.
