HDC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community action agency serving Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties in Michigan. It was formed in 1965 after the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to provide services to reduce poverty. HDC is governed by a 24-member tri-parte board with representatives from the public, private, and consumer sectors. It operates multiple programs across sectors like senior services, housing, education, nutrition, and community support and has offices in Bad Axe, Caro, Lapeer, and Sandusky.

The indigenous communities and ethnic minorities of Bangladesh face increasingly difficult living conditions due to government neglect of their needs and lack of awareness among the mainstream society. Service needs for the homeless population include employment assistance, housing, healthcare, substance abuse treatment, and food/meals. Providers face challenges like lack of shelter space and funding as well as clients' lack of skills/education. Effective services connect homeless individuals to shelters, mailing addresses, meals, government aid, and social services.

Chilliwack Hospice Society - 2020 AGM Presentation

- 2. HDC is a 501 (c) 3 Private, non-profit, Community Action Agency. HDC’s designated service area is the counties of Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola. • The Economic Opportunity Act was signed in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. 1964 • Community Action Agencies were formed across the country, and HDC began operating in 1965 1965
- 4. Human Development Commission (HDC) HDC is governed by a 24-member Board of Directors. HDC’s Board is what is called a tri-parte board. It has representation from three sectors that include the public, consumer, and private. • In addition to the Board of Directors, HDC has five advisory councils made up of community members.
