Week 6 - Learning and Cognition Handbook
Learning and Cognition Handbook
Video Transcript
The primary goal of the Learning and Cognition Handbook is to integrate concepts from the discipline of learning and cognitive psychology into a usable and professional guide that is designed for a specified audience which will be designated based on students’ current or future career goals. Students will choose one of five assigned constructs and focus their handbook on this specific area of learning and cognition. Skills and information learned throughout the course will be applied in the design and creation of this handbook. Findings from required sources, including those from the text and individual peer-reviewed articles, will be incorporated into the handbook; however, these findings will not constitute the total information for each of the sub-constructs addressed within the project. Students should include the relevant sources they researched in the Week Two Discipline-Based Literature Review as well as those from the Week Three Assignment. The purpose of the handbook is to share helpful strategies, apply the chosen construct to seven sub-constructs in the field, and present a holistic guide for others that can be used in the discipline.
To complete this assignment, students may utilize the
Learning and Cognition Handbook template (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
or create their own using the template as a guide. Each section of the handbook should be written in the student’s own words with use of limited paraphrased material cited according to APA standards as outlined in the
Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
. Each section of the handbook should include a minimum of one visual (e.g., table, figure, or image) with a maximum of five visuals per section. Each image must be retrieved and cited based on current copyright laws. Students may wish to use the

for assistance with accessing freely available public domain and/or Creative Commons licensed images.
The following constructs will be the subject content options for this handbook and will be chosen based on an evaluative literature review in Week Two and students’ future career goals:
The Neurosciences: A Look at Our Brains
Socio-Cognition: Social Interactions in Learning
Learning and Literacy: Reading, Writing, and Language Development
Diversity and Culture: The Effects to Learning
Connectionism and Learning: A Web of Development
The sections listed below must be used within the paper to delineate the sections of content.

Psychological assessment guides are created by psychology professionals to provide the public with accurate and authoritative information appropriate for their current needs. Information available to the public about psychological testing and assessment varies widely depending on the professional creating it, the purpose of the assessment, and the intended audience. When professionals effectively educate the public on the

behind assessments and the strengths and limitations of commonly used instruments, potential clients are in a better position to be informed users of assessment products and services. The Assessment Guides developed in this course will be designed to provide the lay public with accurate and culturally relevant information to aid them in making informed decisions about psychological testing. Students will develop their Guides with the goal of educating readers to be informed participants in the assessment process.
There is no required template for the development of the Assessment Guide. Students are encouraged to be creative while maintaining the professional appearance of their work. The Guide must be reader-friendly (sixth- to ninth-grade reading level) and easy to navigate, and it must include a combination of text, images, and graphics to engage readers in the information provided. Throughout their Guides, students will provide useful examples and definitions as well as questions readers should ask their practitioners. To ensure accuracy, students are expected to use only scholarly and peer-reviewed sources for the information in the development of their Guides.
Students will begin their Guides with a general overview of assessment, reasons for assessment referrals, and the importance of the role of each individual in the process. Within each of the remaining sections, students will describe the types of assessments that their readers may encounter, the purposes of each type of assessment, the different skills and abilities the instruments measure, the most valid and reliable uses of the measures, and limitations of the measures. A brief section will be included to describe the assessment process, the types of professionals who conduct the assessments, and what to expect during the assessment meetings.
The Assessment Guide must include the following sections:

[see list below in center on this page].
This includes sub-topics discussing information privacy, privacy laws, applications and court rulings (case law is usually an extension of the basic law based on the facts from specific cases and real-world court decisions), and key privacy and anonymity issues.
While the sites provide many interesting topics, be sure to focus on our class IT topics.
Use the template below and the list of suggested workforce

Paper PromptSwing- From Verb to Noun is the title Leroi Jones g.docxloganta
Paper Prompt:
"Swing- From Verb to Noun" is the title Leroi Jones gives to his chapter on swing music in his 1963 book
Blues People
. In a 5-7 page paper, explore what Jones means by this formulation-- swing as a verb, as a noun, swing going from verb to noun-- and how he uses it to make arguments about music as an expression of race, capitalism, and power in the United States. Why is swing music such an apt style for this set of arguments? How does his formulation further the larger goals of his book? After your discussion of swing, discuss two other musical examples--styles, genres, specific artists/songs-- from Blues People or any of the other readings so far this semester, where we might apply Jones' formulation (bebop, rock, the career of Charles Mingus, etc). Lastly, do you think his formulation is still relevant to discussions of contemporary popular music?
In writing your essay, be sure to clearly state your thesis and to develop your argument with evidence clearly cited from the texts at hand. Papers will be evaluated on the strength of their arguments and the extent to which those arguments are developed and supported with properly cited textual evidence. You may refer to ideas presented in lecture, but these ideas cannot stand in for or replace your engagement with the readings. All papers must be proofread, spell-checked, double-spaced, and printed in an appropriate font and font size. For in-text citations and works cited, please follow MLA guidelines.

Page 1 Planning LTE Network Deployments Introduction LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the 4th Generation (4G) technology comprising of Evolved UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) and Evolved Packet System (EPS) components. LTE brings speeds up to 300 Mbps for roaming users needing wireless access Internet. LTE is the next generation technology of the popular and widely deployed 3G technology UMTS, and is being developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a worldwide standards body comprising of service providers, equipment manufacturers, and R&D institutions. As the wireless access technology continues to evolve and become more flexible, planning and predicting performance of such networks becomes a challenging task. Often claims made in the popular media about the speed, scalability and reliability of the LTE networks are purely theoretical in nature, and the actual performance of these networks depends upon a myriad of factors. Understanding such factors and designing network deployments to achieve the maximal performance out of the given resources is indeed a critical task. In this lab exercise, we will study how OPNET Modeler/Guru can be used as a planning tool. We will use out-of-the-box reports, statistics, and other software tools to understand the network performance and how it relates to the LTE technology itself. Using planning workflows, we will optimize network parameters to achieve target objectives. The labs make use of OPNET Modeler/Guru, the Wireless module, and the specialized LTE model to perform this planning exercise. Lab 1: LTE Cell Planning Study Overview In this lab, we will deploy an LTE cell in OPNET Modeler/Guru and analyze how to determine and set the cell range. You will understand how interference can affect cell range. In the optional lab, we will study an “efficiency-based” workflow, in which setting certain attributes in the simulations and running them without the physical layer (efficiency mode) speeds up the simulation considerably. Methodology • Use the wireless network wizard to deploy an LTE network • Understand how to find and set up the range of the LTE cell • Understand how interference affects the cell range Understand how to speed up the LTE simulations for planning studies intended for large networks (optional/take home lab) Part I 1. Locate the reliable lyrics to your song from an online source. A copy of the song lyrics must be attached to your completed paper. If your song has been covered by many different artists, please identify which version you are discussing in your paper, and make sure that the lyrics you attach correspond accordingly.
Analyze
(at least 400 words):
Once you have picked your song, you are to analyze it as a piece of poetry in a well-organized essay of
at least
four paragraphs. As the analysis depends on it, your paper should also include some quotations from the song. Because you will be quoting text from the chosen song, you will also need to include a Works Cited page. Examine the song through the scope of some of the following poetic elements:
Persona
Voice (Irony, Tone)
Diction
Allusion
Imagery
Rhythm
Sound (Rime, Alliteration/Assonance, etc.)
Symbols
Figures of speech
Denotation/connotation
Type of poetry (i.e., lyric, narrative, etc.)
Reflect
(at least 150 words):
Your analysis should have identified and explained what elements qualify your song to be appreciated as a poem. Here, however, I would like for you to reflect upon which parts of the song’s power come from the words and which come from the music and/or artist performance. Does an examination of the words alone fail to recreate the total power of the original song – why or why not?
Things to Remember
All papers for this class should adhere to MLA format. A Works Cited page is required.
Do not forget to give your paper a title.
Do not include a cover sheet. At the top of the first page simply write a header consisting of your name, the date and our course and section names.
The song that I have chosen for this assignment is Rolling in the Deep by Adele.

OverviewIn this project you will implement a server for the Purdue.docxloganta
Overview
In this project you will implement a server for the Purdue Safe Walk Program. The server you are going to write will handle requests and commands sent from the user.
Safe Walk is a campus safety system (currently done manually) that allows people on campus to request that someone walk with them from one location to another on campus. For more details, refer to
this document
.
Definitions
Here are some definitions and terms that will be used throughout this project.
Locations
A location is a building in Purdue campus. A location is identified by a unique acronym. First, for simplicity, the following
locations
will be defined in the system:
CL50
: Class of 1950 Lecture Hall
EE
: Electrical Engineering Building
LWSN
: Lawson Computer Science Building
PMU
: Purdue Memorial Union
PUSH
: Purdue University Student Health Center
*
: Any one of the location above
You may think of
*
as a wildcard that matches with
any
of the first five locations.
As you will see later, a user message will contain two locations,
FROM
and
TO
. Locations not on the list above will be considered invalid.
User
A user is anyone who sends content to the server.
Requester
A requester is a user who asks for help (instead of sending commands). Again, as you will find later, not all users are requesters.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of file I/O operations.
Knowledge of
Java List API
.
Objectives
Understand and use the
Java Socket API
to implement an
iterative
server.
More specifically,
java.net.ServerSocket
for a socket-based server program.
Understand the similarities between files and sockets.
Learn to implement a basic, text-based server-client protocol.
Learn to write exhaustive JUnit tests.
Learn to use simple network utilities
telnet
and netcat (
nc
).
Specifications
Now you are going to write your own server program.
Command-Line Arguments
Name your program
SafeWalkServer
. To run it, use the command
java SafeWalkServer
port
where the
port
argument should be an integer between
1025
and
65535
inclusive. If the
port
argument is given but invalid,
print
an error message (any meaningful message) and exit gracefully. If the
port
argument is not provided, your program should use a port that is automatically allocated, in which case you must print this port number to stdout before the server starts
accept
ing requests. For example,
Port not specified. Using free port 8888.
where
8888
is the port allocated automatically. Note that 8888 is just an example.
If the port is already used (the constructor of ServerSocket will throw an exception). Print an error message and exit gracefully.
Class Constructors
Your
SafeWalkServer
should have two constructors corresponding to the situations where port may or may not be given.
Finish these two methods:
/**
* Construct the server, and create a server socket,
* bound to the specified port.
*
* @throws IOException IO error when opening the socket.
*/

OverviewIf there is one important lesson you can learn as social s.docxloganta
Overview
If there is one important lesson you can learn as social scientists it is this: historical events never appear in isolation, but instead, are connected to previous events. In this assignment, you are going to construct a timeline in which you show how different events of the women's movement are interconnected.
For example, could you imagine the federal approval of the pill in 1960 without the previous ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920? To what extent did the 19th century writings of Susan B Anthony influence the 1960s work of Betty Friedan or Gloria Steinem? Did women's decade-long involvement in the abolitionist movement influence other causes that women fought for after slavery was abolished? The questions you can ask are endless!
Assignment
This assignment comes in two parts.
Part 1: Create a timeline that covers at least four major events of the women's movement. These do not necessarily have to be from the 1960s, and they can be within a relatively short timeframe (spanning just a few years), or a very long time frame (spanning a couple of centuries). It is entirely up to you! You can find templates for timelines online, or you create your own timeline in Word (Click on Insert, choose Illustrations, SmartArt for templates).
Part 2: Write a brief, 300-500 word commentary that explains how each of these four events that you have mentioned in your timeline is interrelated. In this commentary, you may write about how one event led into the next, and so on, or you may write about how one very significant event led to the other three. The way that you describe the interrelatedness of these events is up to you, but you must demonstrate that you understand how interconnected they are.

Over 600,000 Americans lost their lives in the Civil War, with the Northern troops suffering higher losses. The North believed the sacrifice was worth it; the slaves were freed, and the Union was preserved. The South, on the other hand, began almost immediately to glorify the lost cause. They turned their generals into mythic heroes and looked wistfully back at the antebellum period. They almost regretted surrendering.
Historian Shelby Foote said,
Any understanding of this nation has to be based…on an understanding of the Civil War . . . The Civil War defined us as what we are, and it opened us to being what we became, good and bad things. It is very necessary if you’re going to understand the American character in the 20th century to learn about this enormous catastrophe of the mid-19th century. It was the crossroads of our being.

Write
a 1,400-word paper in which you answer the following questions:
What do you think Foote meant in the quoted passage? How does the Civil War define Americans?
If the Southern generals like Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were so brilliant, and if the South lost fewer men than the North, why did the North win the war?

Over the long period of time that life has existed on Earth, there have been a number of important or significant innovations including (but not limited to) endosymbiosis to create mitochondria and chloroplasts; multicellularity; adaptation to land by plants and animals; development of exoskeletons in arthropods, shells in molluscs, and notochords followed by vertebral columns in chordates and vertebrates; and bipedalism in the ancestry of humans. All of these had to come about by natural selection in response to changing environmental forces.
Pick one of these significant innovations and describe:
How the innovation appears to have happened
What environmental challenges were met and overcome by this innovation, and
What opportunities were opened for the organism that made this innovation.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Learning and Cognition Handbook
Video Transcript
The primary goal of the Learning and Cognition Handbook is to
integrate concepts from the discipline of learning and cognitive
psychology into a usable and professional guide that is designed
for a specified audience which will be designated based on
students’ current or future career goals. Students will choose
one of five assigned constructs and focus their handbook on this
specific area of learning and cognition. Skills and information
learned throughout the course will be applied in the design and
creation of this handbook. Findings from required sources,
including those from the text and individual peer-reviewed
articles, will be incorporated into the handbook; however, these
findings will not constitute the total information for each of the
sub-constructs addressed within the project. Students should
include the relevant sources they researched in the Week Two
Discipline-Based Literature Review as well as those from the
Week Three Assignment. The purpose of the handbook is to
share helpful strategies, apply the chosen construct to seven
sub-constructs in the field, and present a holistic guide for
others that can be used in the discipline.
To complete this assignment, students may utilize the

Video Transcript
To complete this assignment, students may utilize the
Learning and Cognition Handbook template (Links to an

or create their own using the template as a guide. Each section
of the handbook should be written in the student’s own words
with use of limited paraphrased material cited according to APA
standards as outlined in the
Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an

. Each section of the handbook should include a minimum of
one visual (e.g., table, figure, or image) with a maximum of five
visuals per section. Each image must be retrieved and cited
based on current copyright laws. Students may wish to use the

The following constructs will be the subject content options for
this handbook and will be chosen based on an evaluative
literature review in Week Two and students’ future career goals:
The Neurosciences: A Look at Our Brains
Socio-Cognition: Social Interactions in Learning
Learning and Literacy: Reading, Writing, and Language
Development
Diversity and Culture: The Effects to Learning
Connectionism and Learning: A Web of Development
The sections listed below must be used within the paper to
delineate the sections of content.
