2013 LocWorld London – LSP 2.0 – From Good to ExcellenceStefan Gentz
High-quality translations — we all love them, right? But is that enough? No, it’s not enough for a bright future as a language service provider (LSP) in a more globalized, continuously changing, high-speed industry. It is usually well accepted that each professional organization is built on an established and appropriate management framework. An increasing number of small single language vendors and LSPs are building their businesses on EN 15038, bigger ones on ISO 9001. But to stand out from the mass in the future, companies need to do more than just optimizing processes and reducing costs. Excellent organizations achieve and sustain superior levels of performance that meet or exceed the expectations of all their stakeholders. The EFQM Framework for Enterprise 2.0 by the European Foundation for Quality Management has been developed to provide organizations with a holistic and universal approach toward excellence in managing their Enterprise 2.0 strategy. This session will give an inspiring ride through the EFQM’s 8 Concepts of Excellence.

The STAR Group is a global leader in development of translation technology systems for translators and project managers. Transit NXT, STAR’s translation memory system is used by thousands of translators around the world. STAR MT is the Moses-based SMT system developed by STAR that integrates with Transit NXT combining both MT and TM solutions. Proven concepts and technologies from the TM sector are now being used for MT: STAR’s intelligent data structure for reference material and terminology provides significant added value as MT training material for STAR MT. In this presentation we will show, how machine translation integrates with Transit NXT and how project managers and translators benefit from and controlled use of machine translation. In practice, STAR experience shows that MT quality is especially high for segments with very good fuzzy matches. STAR has developed specialized editing functions within our solution that combine TM matches and MT suggestions as segments for “validation rather than repair”. We validate MT results using TM material, rather than repairing missing sections of fuzzy matches using MT. Translators and post-editors can see at a glance what needs to be done, and can benefit from the quality of validated reference material combined with the efficiency of an MT system. This delivers higher quality matches to the translator.

Healthcare communications in English and in translation is one of our main areas of expertise. We have specialized teams with years of experience in healthcare communications, both in English with grade level rewriting for low literacy populations (Plain Language and Health Literacy) as well as dedicated Spanish teams for the U.S. based Hispanic member populations and regional Spanish, such as Puerto Rico.
We also provide 40 other languages for your diverse member populations. Each state and health plan has different member needs and languages is one of those needs. Spanish tends to be one need of most health plans but we routinely work in French for Canada, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Russian, etc for many other healthcare clients.
Outcomes for Healthcare Communications
Our expertise in the Healthcare communications Industry has allowed us to help managed care organizations communicate more effectively with their foreign language speaking member base, as well as their low literacy population. Effective communication can help healthcare organizations overcome the most prominent healthcare challenges that exist today:
- Drug adherence
- Government grade level regulations for Medicare / Medicaid
- Drug recall letter directions
- Disease management

Localization Maturity is about matching your organization’s expectations on global communication outcomes with the right people, processes and technologies. As organizations grow and their localization (translation) needs grow, that organization will have to move through stages of maturity.
Our Global Communication Maturity Model™ 2.0 shows an enhanced view of the stages through which organizations will progress when implementing a global communications strategy. Each stage represents a point in time when an organization faces unique challenges that must be met and built upon in order to move forward on their global business path. Click on the Maturity Model to enlarge and ask yourself… where would you place your organization?
Various groups in your organization may have different goals but alignment of those goals is on the maturation model. Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix

involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.
