This document defines and provides examples of different types of weathering that break down rocks over time, including chemical weathering which changes minerals inside rocks, physical weathering which breaks rocks down without altering their interior, and abrasion caused by sand wearing away rocks. It also discusses carbonic acid formation from rainwater and carbon dioxide mixing and its weathering effects over thousands of years, along with horizons of soil layers and humus consisting of decayed organic material.

2. Chemical Weathering Chemical Weathering breaks down rocks by changing the minerals inside of it.

3. Physical Weathering Physical Weathering is breaking down a rock, but it does not change the inside of the rock. Here is an example of physical weathering.

4. Abrasion Abrasion is the wearing away of rocks with sand.

5. Carbonic Acid Carbonic Acid is when rainwater and carbon dioxide mix. This is an example of carbonic acid that has been going on for thousands of years.

6. Horizons Horizons are the layers of soil.

7. Humus (Hue-mus) Humus is decayed plant or animal material.

8. Exfoliation Exfoliation is weathering that causes rock to peel like an onion.
