Joyce Williams will be the instructor for ALH 110 and outlines her expectations for students in the course. She expects students to be self-motivated, communicate respectfully, submit assignments on time, and adhere to the student code of conduct. As the instructor, Williams will respond to emails and questions within 24-48 hours, post modules and assignments before each week, and grade assignments within 72 hours of the deadline.

Welcome to ALH 110. My name is Joyce
Williams, and I will be your instructor for this
course.
I will review what I expect from you in the class,
and let you know what you can expect from me.

office hours indicated. (M-F between 4:30 and
7:30PM).
2. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
Now let us review the expectations:
It is an expectation that you contact me only
during the hours indicated. Calls and messages
left outside of that time will not be answered.
Be proactive and have a contingency plan for
technology failures or issues.
Be self motivated and self directed.
3. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
Provide timely, meaningful, and interesting
feedback on the subject matter in a respectful,
courteous, and professional manner without
dominating the discussion.
Address all of the questions or issues posed in
the discussion assignment and ensure you use
the minimum number of required words in your
post when required.
4. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
Read all assigned chapters and study and practice
the exercises at the end of each chapter, and
review the course information link or section.
Register on the Evolve website and utilize the
online resource to access the audio tool for
hearing the pronunciation of medical terms.
Practice using the additional tools located on this
site for further enrichment of the course.
5. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
Respond to peers when required with a meaningful
response; do not use responses such as “ I agree” or “
that was interesting to me as well” for your total
response.
Communicate on the discussion board without using
all capital letters and exclamation points, ensure
spelling is accurate, and avoid sarcasm and harsh
statements.
Adhere to the Student Code of Conduct policy.
6. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
Facilitate the learning experience and share knowledge with the
group.
Refrain from discussing personal issues within the discussion
board assignments.
Know how to properly submit documents so they can be
received by the instructor.
Reread and edit all posts carefully before posting. Check spelling,
grammar, use of slang, and punctuation.
Use proper citations for information you post that is not your own
to avoid plagiarism.
7. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
• Submit all assignments by the deadline
provided. Students who do not submit their
assignments by the deadline will have
10% deducted from the total points the first day,
15% the second day, and the third day
assignments will not be accepted. This includes
homework, quizzes, and exams. There are no
extensions for discussion boards assignments.
• Submit assignments directly in the discussion
forum. Type your response directly in the forum. Do
not submit discussion forum assignments as an
attachment.
8. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS
Check your E-mail during the class
frequently for messages from me
regarding your assignments or other
pertinent issues.
Do not wait until the last minute to
complete assignments or quizzes.
Contact me in a timely manner to unlock
quizzes and/or exams.
Check for a response from me before the
deadline to take the quiz expires.
9. As your instructor for the course, you
can expect the following from me:
I will respond to E-mails and posted questions or
issues within 24-48 hours, with the exception of
Sundays and holidays.
I will respond to phone messages during the hours
specified only. Phone messages may be answered
via email as well.
10. As your instructor for the course, you
can expect the following from me:
Post modules and assignments before the
start of the new module week.
Correct and manually grade quizzes and
exams in grade book no later than 72
hours after the end of the deadline.
11. As your instructor for the course, you can
expect the following from me:
Post Discussion Board grades within 72
hours of the end of each module.
Final grades for the course will be posted by
the deadline required: December 12, 2014.
