Wayne Gretzky was born in 1961 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He started playing hockey at age 2 and dominated peewee hockey by scoring 378 goals in his final year. Gretzky played in the NHL for 20 seasons from 1979 to 1999, primarily with the Edmonton Oilers. He set numerous league records, including scoring over 1,000 career points in under 7 seasons. By the time he retired in 1999, Gretzky had established himself as one of the greatest hockey players of all time.
