This document provides water and sewer rate data for various cities in the Southeast region of the United States, including Savannah, GA. It shows that Savannah has lower water and sewer rates than both the national and regional averages, with water rates 50% lower than average and sewer rates 19% lower. Savannah's combined water and sewer rate of $36.93 per 1000 cubic feet is 33% lower than the regional average of $56.88. The document discusses constructing statistical graphs and charts to represent variables related to access to water. It provides examples of bar graphs and pie charts using sample data on water quality received by households. A bar graph is created showing that 50% receive clear water, 37.5% receive turbid water, and 12.5% receive other colored water. A pie chart also represents this data visually. Interpretations are made that half the community has access to good quality water while the other half may experience health issues due to water quality.

Lisa Harper is a 22-year-old nurse who volunteers digging wells in El Salvador to provide clean drinking water for rural communities. She works with an organization called Living Water to dig wells by hand, which involves 12-hour days of difficult manual labor. Each well can provide clean water for 400 people for 20 years. Harper plans to continue volunteering with trips three times a year to build 20 wells over the next 10 years to help address the issue that 16% of people in El Salvador lack access to clean drinking water near their homes. Harper finds the work rewarding despite being tiresome, and takes joy in seeing children with clean water.

Ground source heat pumps extract heat from the ground through a system of pipes or coils to heat buildings. They work like a refrigerator by using a compressor to move heat from one place to another. The heat pump unit is installed indoors while horizontal coils are buried underground to absorb heat from the ground. Ground source heat pumps have advantages like reduced running costs and emissions but require careful installation to work effectively.

This document provides a status report on municipal drainage utility funding for open space projects in Fiscal Year 2014-2015. It lists 10 open space priority projects, including their status, as well as actual open space acquisitions completed with $5.4 million in expenses. Another $5.4 million in acquisitions are pending, including properties like Lower Coronado Canyon, Upper Coronado Canyon, Silver Springs, and Hunt Arroyos. With a projected $6.3 million balance in February 2015 and $5.4 million in pending acquisitions, $853,000 is expected to remain available for additional open space projects.
The document provides a status update on open space projects and acquisitions being undertaken by the Open Space Advisory Board (OSAB) as of September 30, 2014. It lists 10 priority stormwater projects, with statuses ranging from completed acquisitions to negotiations in progress. Financial details are provided on acquisitions completed and pending, with a projected $853,000 balance remaining after pending acquisitions. The mayor's proposal is to divert open space funding for the next two fiscal years to new construction projects, totaling $3 million, while keeping $853,000 available for future open space opportunities.
Bottled water companies have aggressively marketed bottled water as safer and purer than tap water, despite tap water having more rigorous testing standards. Producing billions of bottled water bottles each year requires vast resources and contributes significantly to pollution and plastic waste. Most water bottles are not recycled and end up polluting the environment for thousands of years. Reliance on bottled water undermines access to clean water as a basic human right and diverts funding away from improving water infrastructure. Individual actions like using reusable water bottles can reduce waste and support access to clean water for all.
This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.
UN WOD 2024 will take us on a journey of discovery through the ocean's vastness, tapping into the wisdom and expertise of global policy-makers, scientists, managers, thought leaders, and artists to awaken new depths of understanding, compassion, collaboration and commitment for the ocean and all it sustains.
