Post on or before Day 3 the explanation of the health assessment information required for a diagnosis
of your selected patients (include the scenario numbers). Explain how you would respond to the
scenario as an advanced practice nurse using evidence-based practice guidelines and applying ethical
considerations. Justify your responses.
Introduction
It is extremely important to gather as much relevant information as possible during a complete health
assessment of a patient. In order to deliver an accurate diagnosis we must examine the patient and
perform the necessary tests to determine the problem. Moral and ethical issues may arise as we
interact with patients from diverse cultures, beliefs, and faiths. We must rely on our basic ethical
principles to ensure that we make the best possible decision when those situations arise. Ethics is set of
principles or rules for distinguishing between right and wrong, such as the Golden Rule "Do unto others
as you would have them do unto you" (Resnik, 2011). Ethical research had become extremely important
whether dealing with human or animal subjects. It is necessary to be aware of the complexity, of the
ethical, legal, social and political issues associated with those studies. Dealing with human subjects often
presents highly challenging ethical issues. Health care professionals use the ANA code of Ethics as a
guide to our professional standards.
Scenario 2:
The health assessment a 49-year-old woman with advanced stage cancer has been admitted to the
emergency room with cardiac arrest would include respect for that person and protecting her from any
harm while providing care. The first thing is to establish the patient’s wishes, whether she is wants to be
resuscitated or not. It is extremely important to consider the laws of ethics when making any decisions
that may affect other people’s lives. Knowing the circumstances that this case, as an advanced practice
nurse, it is our responsibilities to act morally and whatever position you may hold your value should be
the same.
Scenario 3:
A 27-year-old man with Crohn’s disease has been admitted to the emergency room with an extreme
flare-up of his condition. He explains that he has not been able to afford his medications for the last few
months and is concerned about the costs he may incur for treatment.
According to Belmont’s report the principle of justice is that equals ought to be treated equally.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to health, including
health care. The inability to pay for necessary medical care is no longer a problem affecting only the
uninsured, but increasingly becoming a problem for those with health insurance as well. As an advanced
practice nurse….
Scenario 6:
A 12-year-old girl has come in for a routine check-up and has not yet received the HPV vaccine. Her
family is very religious and believes that the vaccine would encourage premarital sexual activity.
It has been some ethical controversies regarding the HPV vaccine. In most cases, diseases have been
significant reduced through vaccination such as polio and measles. In the scenario 6, based on some
religious and belief background the family of the 12-year-old girl believes that the vaccine would
encourage premarital sexual activity.
The ethical issues facing The National Vaccine Program and other key vaccine committees are revolve
around the advocacy of balancing the ethics of protecting individual beliefs and the community’s health.
Ethical concepts and their utility in clinical practice must be taking under consideration along with all
decision making (Marqis&Huston , 2009). It is natural that her family to protect her daughter. She is
vulnerable at that age and not able to consent for herself. As a health care provider, we’re not needed
to educate the parents nor explained the risk -benefit of the treatment.
