The volleyball was created on February 9th, 1895 by William George Morgan in the United States. Morgan worked for the YMCA and created volleyball as a less physical contact alternative to other sports to minimize risks. Initially called Mintonette, it grew in popularity and became known as volleyball. In recent years, beach volleyball has gained success internationally, especially in Brazil and the United States.
