Vladislav Tretyak was born in 1955 in Moscow region and started playing ice hockey at age 11 for CSKA youth sports school. He played goalkeeper for CSKA, winning 13 USSR championships and European Cups between 1970-1984. As a member of the USSR national team from 1970-1984, Tretyak won 10 World Championships and 3 Olympic gold medals, as well as the 1981 Canada Cup and 1979 Challenge Cup. After retiring in 1984, Tretyak worked for CSKA and trained NHL goalkeepers before becoming president of the Russian Hockey Federation in 2006.
