Charles, an MIT graduate, is the
chief executive officer of Koch
Industries and the chairman of the
board.
David H Koch
Like his older brother, David, an
MIT graduate, is a businessman,
political activist and philanthropist,
as well as a chemical engineer.
He is the co-owner and executive
vice president of Koch Industries
and the president of Koch
Engineering.
The Koch brothers are the sons of Fred C. Koch, the founder of the Koch family business. His business success
first came from his development of a new crude oil and gasoline cracking method.
3. POLITICAL VIEWS
• The Koch brothers are outspoken, influential libertarians. In 1980, David was the vice
presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party.
• The brothers have made substantial donations to mostly Republican political campaigns.
• Some of their views include the following: a free market economy, individual liberty, non-
interventionalist foreign policies, women’s right to choose, gay rights and same-sex marriage
and stem cell research.
• Both support a number of free market policy and advocacy programs/organizations.
4. KOCH INDUSTRIES
Koch Industries, established as Wood River Oil Refining Company in
1940, is the second-largest privately owned American company. Today,
the multinational corporation focuses on manufacturing, investing and
trading, owning hundreds of companies and products in such industries.

Mission statement:“Supporting the study of free societies and the ideas, institutions, and values
that maximize well-being.”
The Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation, established in 1980, fulfils its mission through
academic grants and educational initiatives. It aims to advance “social progress and well-being
through the development, application and dissemination of ‘the Science of Liberty.’”
8. CHARLES KOCH FOUNDATION
Since 2011, the Charles Koch Foundation has supported higher education programs that “analyze
how free societies advance the well-being of mankind.”

9. FRED AND MARY KOCH FOUNDATION
“The Fred and Mary Koch Foundation supports Kansas-based initiatives that include the arts,
youth development programs and education.
The foundation awards money to Kansas non-profits that focus on arts, human services,
environmental protection and at-risk youth care. Beginning in 1953, this was the first foundation
established by the Koch family.
