This document describes a study that aims to teach tutors effective teaching behaviors for Direct Instruction curriculum through virtual training in Second Life. Three tutors from an adult literacy program will receive training in Second Life on scripted Corrective Reading lessons while their teaching behaviors are measured. The study will evaluate if skills developed through virtual training in Second Life generalize to improved fluency and accuracy when tutors do live, face-to-face instruction with students. Dependent variables include the tutors' fluency in instructional pacing, error corrections, and praise, as measured before, during, and after the virtual training.
This document discusses using whiteboards to deliver sales messages visually. It recommends creating compelling visuals to make stories more memorable and notes that 88% of executives prefer conversations over presentations. The document then outlines a proven whiteboard selling process that combines business knowledge with visual expertise to develop whiteboards tailored to business challenges. It provides examples of successful whiteboard projects and encourages reaching out to scope a custom whiteboard.

Lucky was a one-year-old dog who lived in Los Angeles and was inseparable from his little master, playing with him from dawn to dusk and sleeping together. For Nicolas' birthday, he was given a pet tiger named Strike. When Uncle Tom brought Nicolas a gift and Lucky entered wagging his tail, Uncle Tom was surprised to see the dog, thinking a cat and dog couldn't live together, but Lucky and Strike unexpectedly began sniffing each other and playing peacefully, making both Nicolas and his uncle happy.

This document outlines a lesson plan for a 5th grade class. The teacher will divide the 22 students into small groups to complete a WebQuest on day 2. Each student will have an individual role and task to research information for their group's poster presentation. After the group presentations, the class will participate in a debate. The objectives are for the students to demonstrate their knowledge gained from the WebQuest with 90% accuracy by the end of the lesson. The students will use computers in the school library and materials like poster boards, pencils and markers. The teacher will set up the classroom with desks grouped together and space for presentations. Students will be evaluated on their individual and group work during the different activities.
The document provides instructions for writing sentences using different grammatical structures such as tenses, clauses, comparatives, and superlatives. It includes examples of questions to ask and sentences to write using the specified structures. Students take turns asking and answering questions, writing sentences based on the examples and providing feedback on their classmates' responses by agreeing or disagreeing.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

2. Allen & Seaman, 2008
• Over 3.9 million students were taking at least one online
course during the fall 2007 term; a 12 percent increase over
the number reported the previous year.
• The 12.9 percent growth rate for online enrollments far
exceeds the 1.2 percent growth of the overall higher
education student population.
• Over twenty percent of all U.S. higher education students
were taking at least one online course in the fall of 2007.
3. Virtual education is defined as instruction in a learning
environment where the teacher and the student are
separated by time, space, or both; and the teacher
provides course content via course management
applications, multimedia resources, Internet, video
conferencing, or other alternatives to traditional face-to-
face education (Muller, 2009).
4. Corrective Reading
• Direct Instruction curriculum published by SRA
• Research has shown CR to be effective for adult
learners (Edmondson, 2004; Hempenstall, 2006)
• Requires specific teaching behaviors to manage students
and present tasks
5. DI Teaching Techniques
• Setting up the lesson
• Following scripted presentations
• Correcting errors
• Pacing the exercises
• Using signals
• Teaching to low performers
• Switching between group and individual turns
• Reinforcing correct responses
6. Reinforcing Effective Teaching
Behaviors
Engelmann (2004), senior developer of Direct Instruction
programs, states that the average teacher requires at least two
years of training to become proficient with low performing
students.
7. Research Questions – Multiple
Baseline
1. To what extent can specific teaching behaviors be effectively
trained in Second Life?
2. To what extent do skills developed in a multi-user virtual
environment generalize to live, face-to-face instruction?
8. Participants
Three tutors from a volunteer-based adult literacy program.
• Tutors have no formal instruction in teaching.
• One male, two female
Three adult students receiving instruction in reading.
12. Dependent Variable
Tutor performance will be measured using the Direct Instruction
Supervision System (Marchand-Martella, Lignugaris/Kraft,
Pettigrew, 1990)
Fluency will be determined by counting the number of correct
and incorrect teaching behaviors over a five minute observation
Teaching behaviors consist of instructional pacing, error
corrections, and praise
14. Procedures - Baseline
Tutors deliver a Corrective Reading for each live tutoring
session throughout the study
Data collected on fluency of instructional delivery
No feedback provided to tutors on their performance
15. Procedures - Virtual Training
Students deliver a Corrective Reading lesson in Second Life
Data collected on fluency of instructional delivery
Feedback provided to tutors on their performance
