This document provides a report on an international workshop held in Vienna from 29-31 March 2011 regarding hazardous substances within the life-cycle of electrical and electronic products. The workshop was organized by the Secretariats of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions and SAICM to advance efforts to reduce impacts of hazardous chemicals in electronics. It provided an overview of issues considered, including design of products, green chemistry, recycling and disposal. Participants included representatives from governments, industry, civil society and intergovernmental organizations. The opening remarks emphasized the need for a paradigm shift towards more sustainable electronics and the importance of international cooperation to address this fast growing waste stream.
