Music Video Analysis
Gender Roles
Song Title: _________Order More_____________________________
Artist: ______________________G-Eazy________________
Directions: As you closely watch the music video, answer the following questions with as
much detail as possible.
1. What are the men/women doing? (Dancing, sitting, swimming, etc.) The man is singing and
being waited on by the women, who are all hardly dressed and dancing/laying around him like
they are his servants. Some of the women are swimming, but mainly they are dancing for him
and his friends, or acting as if they are statues to be admired.
2. How are the men/women dressed? How much skin is revealed? The men are fully clothed
but the women are either in lingerie or bikinis.
3. Are there more, fewer, or the same number of men as women? You see one man throughout
the video except for one scene where there are two other men. Meanwhile, there are probably 20
or more women.
4. Describe the body language of the men/women: are they sitting, standing, gyrating,
mugging, etc.? The guy just sits while he raps and women bring him drinks or dance on him. For
the most part they are just admiring the women while they dance on him or touch each other.
5. Do the men/women have power? How do you know? I would say that the man, G-Eazy,
clearly has power over these women. They do everything he wants and he just comes up to them
and they automatically let him do whatever or do things to him.
6. What³s the message of the song? His song is basically saying that he has so much money to
just order more of everything, that he has no limits and wants the girls to do more, to get more
money, and to get more drinks.
7. What type of music is the song? It’s a rap song.

Sexuality
Song Title: _______Hands to Myself_______________________________
Artist: ___________Selena Gomez___________________________
Directions: As you closely watch the music video, answer the following questions with as
much detail as possible.
1. Describe any sexually explicit body language: In the video, Selena is only wearing a bra and
underwear dancing in the mirror or rolling around on a bed touching herself.
2. Who is more sexualized • men or women? Both? Women are definitely more sexualized
because she’s clearly trying to look sexy the entire time. Although there’s a man in a couple of
the scenes, the focus is really on her being mostly naked and acting sexy.
3. Are there sexually explicit lyrics or messages? There isn’t anything really sexually explicit,
just constant “can’t keep my hands to myself.” But messages through the video are clearly very
sexual.
4. How are subjects of the music video dressed? Selena is hardly dressed at all, and even a scene
with her in the bathtub she has no clothes on.
5. Describe the relationships between the men and women: Are they long or short term?
Casual or serious? There are only a few scenes where there’s a man in the bed with her while
it’s meant to look like they’re about to have sex so it’s a serious scene but it’s very short because
it’s meant to be her imagination.
6. What³s the message of the song? Like the title, “can’t keep my hands to myself” is repeated
over and over again. But the point of the video is that she breaks into a guy’s house that she’s
obsessed with and pretends that he’s there with her and wants her back.
7. What type of music is the song? The song would be considered a Pop song.
