I am writing on behalf of Vickie Loncar, an applicant for an administrative position in your school district.
I worked with Vickie between August 2006 and July 2008. During this time, I was assistant
superintendent of the Riverside Local School District, and I hired Vickie as the elementary literacy and
science coordinator. As such, Vickie was responsible for bringing uniformity to the district’s early
literacy Response to Intervention framework and tutoring program at six elementary schools. Likewise,
she was also responsible for organizing science units and labs for the district K-5. Either one of these
responsibilities could have easily been full time positions. Regardless, Vickie hit the ground running
when she joined our district team.
Working with Vickie for two years, I learned that she is an intelligent, resourceful, data-driven, goal-
oriented, and energetic self-starter. She favorably impressed me with her work, and, likewise, earned
great respect and admiration among her colleagues. The quality of Vickie’s work, her interpersonal
skills, and her sense of responsibility are very desirable. She provides students and teachers alike with a
clear understanding of both district and building level goals and expectations. She is always dependable
and conscientious in her daily responsibilities. Similarly, she is receptive to new ideas, and always willing
to put in extra time when the situation requires it. You need these qualities in a building administrator.
Vickie is thorough and effective in all areas of data analysis and program development. She never
waited for me to tell her what to do. More often than not, Vickie was meeting with me to tell me what
she wanted to do next, and provided me with the data that supported why it needed to be done. She is
absolutely a team player. As the K-5 science coordinator, Vickie collaborated with our K-5 math
coordinator and district director of technology to create a K-5 Math and Science Night the likes of which
we had never before realized. The event was so well received it was held at our district’s high school in
order to accommodate all of the students and their parents.
Vickie was instrumental in the development and district roll-out of our K-5 RtI SWAT team, and played
the lead role in K-5 benchmarking three times per year. She has a strong, solid knowledge of early
literacy, and provides her team with a selection of research-based programs and evidence-based
strategies when it comes to reading intervention in Tiers 1, 2 and 3. Specifically, Vickie is well versed in
the DIBELS data management system, Waterford Early Reading Program, and Fundations. She is also
certified in the Wilson Reading System and is a certified DIBELS trainer. Rarely does a résumé for a
building-level administrative position cross my desk that contains such attractive, research-based
program skills.
