Considers several ways in which data can help philanthropic organizations improve their missions, as well as pathways toward making philanthropy more data-driven.
Broadly speaking, when analyzed responsibly data and data science can provide philanthropies with an improved analysis or understanding of the situation or problem; help predict future trends or help evaluate the impact of investments made.
This in turn can perfect the way philanthropies function in three broad ways:
First, having access to data and data science can influence the overall operations of philanthropies, making them run more efficiently.
Second, data can transform how philanthropies are governed, making them more accountable — a topic of major importance in the current philanthropic landscape.
Third, data can increase the impact of an organization’s mission by allowing them to make evidence-based decisions and continuously adjust their activities to take account of realities on the ground.

My keynote speech at the ISACA IIA Belgium software watch day in October 2014 in Brussels on the value of big data and data analytics for auditors and other assurance professionals
The document discusses delivering data governance with data intelligence software. It begins with introductions of the authors and an agenda for the discussion. It then outlines how data in the digital transformation era is dynamic, diverse and distributed across hybrid cloud environments. This complexity leads to inefficiencies like 81% of time being spent searching for and preparing data with only 20% left for analysis. Data intelligence software can help by providing data discovery, cataloging and profiling to answer the "5 W's of data" and build trust. The document prescribes a three step plan for organizations to deliver trusted data using data intelligence software: 1) discover and clean data, 2) organize and empower data stewards, 3) automate and enable self service access

Subscribing to Your Critical Data Supply Chain - Getting Value from True Data...DATAVERSITY
Operational Data Governance is more than a stewardship process for critical Business Assets. As organizations build structure around KPI’s and other critical data, a workflow develops that revolves around the sources and supply chain for that critical data. There can be many aspects to changes and inconsistencies affecting the final results of the supply chain. Inaccurate usage of data can result in audit penalties as well as erroneous report summaries and conclusions.
Is it coming from the correct authoritative source? Has the data been profiled? Has it met it’s threshold?
Gaps in the supply chain from incorrect pathways may lead dead ends or lost sources.
The value of understanding the entire supply chain cannot be overstated. When changes occur at and point, end users can validate that correct business standards, rules and policies have been applied to the critical data within the supply chain. Your organization can rest easy that you are not at risk for exposure due to improper usage, security, and compliance.
Join this webinar to uncover how companies are using data lineage to accomplish data supply chain transparency. You’ll also see the direct value clear data lineage can give to your business and IT landscape today.

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

Bram Verhoef, Head of Machine Learning at Axelera AI, presents the “How Axelera AI Uses Digital Compute-in-memory to Deliver Fast and Energy-efficient Computer Vision” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
As artificial intelligence inference transitions from cloud environments to edge locations, computer vision applications achieve heightened responsiveness, reliability and privacy. This migration, however, introduces the challenge of operating within the stringent confines of resource constraints typical at the edge, including small form factors, low energy budgets and diminished memory and computational capacities. Axelera AI addresses these challenges through an innovative approach of performing digital computations within memory itself. This technique facilitates the realization of high-performance, energy-efficient and cost-effective computer vision capabilities at the thin and thick edge, extending the frontier of what is achievable with current technologies.
In this presentation, Verhoef unveils his company’s pioneering chip technology and demonstrates its capacity to deliver exceptional frames-per-second performance across a range of standard computer vision networks typical of applications in security, surveillance and the industrial sector. This shows that advanced computer vision can be accessible and efficient, even at the very edge of our technological ecosystem.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
