E Pubs for Global-Health - the (rapidly!)) Changing LandscapeForum One
This document discusses the rapidly changing landscape of e-publishing for global health. It provides an overview of e-book formats, channels for distribution, tools for conversion and considerations for determining what content to publish digitally. Key points include that tablets are projected to outpace PC sales, ePub and Mobi are common formats, and intermediaries will likely play a role in the complex process of direct digital distribution. Global health organizations should consider creating interactive e-books for medical schools in developing areas as an alternative to printing textbooks.

Forum One helped the Government of Qatar, the Supreme Council of Information Communication and Technology, to analyze and improve the usability of its government portal, which allows citizens, residents, industries, and visitors to find information and to complete online transactions such as applying for a resident permit, renewing a driving license, or paying a water bill.
The Council chose Forum One for our extensive experience in usability testing, as well as our staff's multicultural background and Arabic language expertise.
Our powerful usability and web performance analysis involved a comprehensive heuristic review, usability testing, card sorting exercises, and an accessibility review, all performed on-site in Doha in both English and Arabic.
Our review uncovered a number of usability issues and opportunities for improvement. We are slated to implement our recommendations in a follow-up web redesign project in January 2011.

Unlock Your Secret Garden: How to Build a Developer Community Around Your DataForum One

Like never before, nonprofits and government agencies can increase their impact and reach through the clever promotion of their data. Organizations want to fling open the doors to these walled gardens and share their digital assets and projects – but the key to doing this successfully lies in engaging those essential developer communities who can make that data easily accessible.
Drawing on the latest literature and lessons from developers and community managers, the Forum One team has developed a series of expert recommendations and best practices that organizations like yours can follow to create and sustain a successful developer community around your data.
This presentation is based on a 45-minute webinar (http://youtu.be/ZKcqj1bCTL0) in which we explore the opportunities and challenges of unlocking your secret garden of data, and what it takes to build, grow, and market a developer community around that resource.
From this webinar you will learn:
• Where to find developers and how to engage with them
• The role of a community manager and why you need one
• A "To Do" list for starting up your developer community
• Best practices for celebrating success
Who should view the webinar:
-Communications managers, developers, and anyone interested in open data!

This document discusses how Drupal can be used to manage, distribute, and visualize data on websites. It notes that data comes from multiple sources and formats and managing it presents many challenges. However, Drupal allows users to treat basic data as content that can be imported, stored, and presented using modules like Views. More advanced visualization and analysis of data is also possible using third-party libraries that integrate with Drupal. The document encourages readers to start small by creating a "/data" page on their own websites that catalogs and shares available data sets and developer resources to help distribute their data.
