This document discusses digital disruption in the Australian healthcare system. It describes how digital technologies are changing expectations for consumers and enabling new models of participatory health. Digital health encompasses capabilities like social engagement, self-monitoring, access to clinical data, and telehealth that are shifting care delivery towards more connected, personalized care focused on outcomes. New entrants are pursuing this vision through investments in areas like wearables, analytics, and telemedicine as patients demand mobile, on-demand services like those in other industries. The document argues this disruption will lead to a new digital "participatory health" model centered around engaged consumers.

Vertical standards in healthcare aim to address business problems unique to the healthcare industry. Such standards focus on data structures, document formats, and business processes to promote communication between disparate legacy systems. Examples include standards for electronic patient health records and medical messaging. The development of healthcare vertical standards has been slow but is gaining urgency as more data moves from paper to electronic records and the population ages. These standards are important to fully realize the benefits of health information technology (HIT) in improving care quality and reducing costs.
The document provides an analysis of the air delivery and freight services industry. It discusses the major players and their 2010 revenues, with the US Postal Service having the highest total revenue but seeing a decline from 2008. It also lists the employee counts of major companies. General factors affecting the industry are discussed, including the economy, globalization, regulations, and IT impacts like e-commerce and package tracking technologies. The document then analyzes United Parcel Service (UPS), discussing its history, current leadership, finances, accomplishments like international expansion, and potential risks like security issues or union strikes. It closes by covering UPS' use of telematics technology for fleet management and how information technology is crucial to their package tracking abilities.

A company that is already accustomed to some form of digital-based communication and operations (as much as possible) are the ones most able to survive and thrive in these circumstances.
A government body that can still function and serve remotely and digitally is the most ideal form of democracy. An organisation with remote workers, paperless reporting, established telecommunications through all chains of command are really agile in its truest form.

Deloitte research found that while many medtech companies are well-positioned to drive the future of health, they likely won’t be able to do it alone. Rather than focusing on making incremental
improvements to their devices, they should focus on using transformative and cognitive technologies
to enhance products and offer services. They could do this by developing or partnering to acquire
sophisticated data analytics capabilities, getting much closer to the consumer, and leveraging new
cognitive technologies to improve operations.

Using technology-enabled social prescriptions to disrupt healthcareDr Sven Jungmann
As chronic diseases are increasingly straining healthcare systems, social factors are gaining importance. Since the birth of social medicine (19th century), we saw many failed attempts to beat the dominance of the biomedical model. Social prescriptions have come, raising hopes that non-biomedical solutions will improve outcomes and optimise resource use. Social Prescriptions connect citizens to support to address social determinants of health and encourage self-care for physical and mental health. Social prescriptions can make us healthier cheaper and with fewer side effects than most drugs. Social prescriptions can become a disruptive force as they can be personalised, improve lifestyle-related diseases, and support non-biomedical issues affected by social determinants of health.
