Confession from a magazine.
"My boyfriend, John, and I ___________ (to be) together for about six
months. My 16th birthday was coming up and I was so excited because my
previous birthdays _________ (to be) bad. Of course I was crushed when he
told me his family was going away to Florida that weekend!. The whole time I
kept texting him how much I missed him. so my sister decided to take me
home. On the way, my sister said she wanted to stop at her boyfriend's
house to say hi. When we walked in my friends all screamed, 'Surprise!' I
was happy about the party but still upset because John wasn't there. I
walked over and opened the door, and there stood John with a big red ribbon
on his shirt! It turns out he __________ (to plan) the whole party just so I
could finally have an amazing birthday. I couldn't __________ (to ask) for a
better day, or a better boyfriend!"

2. Over the last twenty years, the average size of households ______
(fall) dramatically. The number of one person households ______ (grow up),
due largely to the ageing of the population, as haws the number of one
parent families. Couples having smaller families _____also_______
(contribute) to the fall in household size.
In 1976, 60% of families were couples with children. By 1996, this had fallen
to 51%. Part of this change can be attributed to the increase in one parent
families with dependent children, but most of the change is due to the
increase in the proportion of couple-only families. People are now having
children later in life, and are living longer. Therefore, they are spending more
time living in couple-only families, both before they have families and after
their children______ (leave) home.
However, children are leaving home later. In 1981, 34% of children aged 20-
24 lived with their parents. By 1991, this had increased to 40%. This increase
has to some extent countered, the fall in the couples with non-dependent
children only.
