• Based on SESAR 1 solution, but alerts are generated by the on-board system on the
basis of discrepancies detected between aircraft position and Airport Map Data Base
and between aircraft position and clearances/instructions provided by ATC by voice.

Map in portrait format with visual alerting capability

Operational improvements
• Alerting tool for Flight Crew on the airport surface
• Detection of non-compliances with airport configuration (e.g. closed runway, non-
compliant taxiway, restricted area) or non-conformances to procedures or
clearances (e.g. taxi deviation)
• Generation of visual alerts or visual and aural alerts depending on the severity of
the situation
• Use of on-board airport database, procedures and instructions received from ATC
via R/T and aircraft data, to generate alerts
• Does not require datalink connection to ground systems

Through the availability of an on board detection system, Solution Pj03b-03
aims to improve:
• Human Performance by improving the situational awareness of Flight
Crews during aircraft movement on ground, particularly in low visibility
conditions.
• Safety, by reducing the risk of route deviations and of accidents on the
ground.
• Reaction time to any potential risk.

A discrepancy is detected between taxi route entered by Flight Crew and airport configuration.

The taxi route based on ATC clearance contains:
- a closed runway/taxiway
- a runway/taxiway restricted to the aircraft
- a runway/taxiway unsuitable to the aircraft peculiarities (PCN; Wing Span)

The exercise is executed in low visibility conditions (VIS 3) using Malpensa
airport low visibility procedures during Taxi out phases.

Scenarios and Plan for Validation Exercise

The exercise is a V2 Real Time Simulation (RTS) based on Milano Malpensa
Airport scenario focusing on:
• non-compliance with airport configuration (e.g. A/C enters closed runway)
• non-conformance to ATC clearances (e.g. Deviation from taxi route)
Two types of scenarios are tested for Malpensa Airport:
 Taxi Out North Apron to RWY 35R (TONA35R)
 Taxi Out West Apron to RWY 35R (TOWA35R)

Flight Crew are expected to participate to the exercise in the following tasks:
• familiarization with GRA simulator and validation scenario
• execution of the validation activity according to the defined validation scenario
• participation to briefing and convergence meeting, providing comments and
recommendations
• formalization of the validation results through questionnaires.
EXE.03b-03.02 – LEONARDO Specialists Activity

Avionics systems / HMI engineers will perform the following tasks:
• Preparation, management and witness for the validation activities
• Support to the simulations systems engineers during the validation exercise
• Set up and guidance to the compilation of the questionnaires for the post-
exercise assessment
• Preparation of the input for the validation report concerning the activity
performed at GRA Simulator.
Simulations systems engineers will perform the following tasks:
• Management of the RTS runs and interface with Flight Crew
• Management of data / images recording and collection
• Support to the post-exercise assessment and preparation of the validation
report.

Solution PJ03b-03 Overview PJ03b-03 – EXE.03b-03.02: V2 Validation Exercise for Regional aircraft 4 • Based on SESAR 1 solution, but alerts are generated by the on-board system on the basis of discrepancies detected between aircraft position and Airport Map Data Base and between aircraft position and clearances/instructions provided by ATC by voice. Solution PJ03b-03 Main Benefits PJ03b-03 – EXE.03b-03.02: V2 Validation Exercise for Regional aircraft 8 Through the availability of an on board detection system, Solution Pj03b-03 aims to improve: • Human Performance by improving the situational awareness of Flight Crews during aircraft movement on ground, particularly in low visibility conditions. • Safety, by reducing the risk of route deviations and of accidents on the ground. • Reaction time to any potential risk.

Alert name Brief description TAXI ROUTE OVER RESTRICTED AREA The taxi route based on ATC clearance contains: - a closed runway/taxiway - a runway/taxiway restricted to the aircraft - a runway/taxiway unsuitable to the aircraft peculiarities (PCN; Wing Span)

GRA Simulator Features PJ03b-03 – EXE.03b-03.02: V2 Validation Exercise for Regional aircraft 18  Malpensa Airport Moving Map (AMM) on Navigation Cockpit Display for Pilot & Co-pilot.  Tablet Surface Pro, Head Set for pilot interaction.  Presentation of Outside Visual of Milan-Malpensa (3D scenario).  Presentation of alerts on AMM and on EWD supported by aural alert system.

EXE.03b-03.02 – LEONARDO Test Pilots Activity PJ03b-03 – EXE.03b-03.02: V2 Validation Exercise for Regional aircraft 19 Flight Crew are expected to participate to the exercise in the following tasks: • familiarization with GRA simulator and validation scenario • execution of the validation activity according to the defined validation scenario • participation to briefing and convergence meeting, providing comments and recommendations • formalization of the validation results through questionnaires.

EXE.03b-03.02 – LEONARDO Specialists Activity 20 Avionics systems / HMI engineers will perform the following tasks: • Preparation, management and witness for the validation activities • Support to the simulations systems engineers during the validation exercise • Set up and guidance to the compilation of the questionnaires for the post- exercise assessment • Preparation of the input for the validation report concerning the activity performed at GRA Simulator. Simulations systems engineers will perform the following tasks: • Management of the RTS runs and interface with Flight Crew • Management of data / images recording and collection • Support to the post-exercise assessment and preparation of the validation report.
