Investing in professional photographs creates a high-quality visual library that can be reused across various promotional channels and help attract prospective families.
This document discusses ways to motivate students and engage them through international links in their language learning. It recommends celebrating other cultures through native speaker contact, authentic materials from other countries, and giving students a real international audience. Several specific online collaboration tools are described, including eTwinning, ePals, and Connecting Classrooms, which allow students to partner with classes abroad. Successful project examples through these tools include blogging, wikis, exploring local areas, and video conferencing with international partners. Recognition and awards are available for high quality international projects.

The project achieved 15 editathons, 19 training sessions, 27 speaking engagements and engaged 280 new users and around 100 cultural institutions. It led to 250 new images uploaded, 76 new articles created and 160 articles improved. Though it did not achieve some goals like policy changes at institutions or large-scale image releases, it helped participants feel more confident in open knowledge work. Key challenges included fears around loss of control, revenue, or skills as well as conservative attitudes and risk aversion. Lessons involved building skills, improving infrastructure and changing attitudes.

Documentation Nightmares
and Due Diligence
Monday 31 October – Tuesday 1 November 2016
Almost every museum has a documentation
backlog and a ‘cupboard of doom’ where those
objects of uncertain status hide. Part of the
Accreditation requirements are to have a plan to
deal with these backlogs. Find out how the V&A
deals with unaccessioned objects and accessioned
objects without database entries. Learn about
putting a plan together, ways of investigating and
recording the objects, and putting procedures in
place to prevent backlogs from happening again.
In the second part of the day we will discuss the
principles of due diligence and its importance in
helping museums to only acquire and borrow items
if they are legally and ethically sound.
