This document discusses how living conditions like access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and regional status impact child mortality rates. Countries with greater access to clean water and sanitation have lower child mortality rates. The highest child mortality rates are found in West and Central Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. There is an inverse relationship between literacy rates and child mortality rates, with female literacy rates having more influence. Somalia has the highest child mortality rate of 14.8%. Adult literacy is directly related to child mortality as literacy can increase awareness of health and well-being.
