User testing involves observing how users interact with a product with minimal interference. It aims to collect direct data on user behavior to understand users' goals and identify usability issues, in order to inform design decisions. While designers may think they understand users, user testing reveals real users' latent issues. It has been shown to reduce task times and usability problems compared to relying only on designer assumptions. Usability testing should be done before finalizing controversial interface elements.
