G. Lindh will give a lecture on the history of earthquakes in the San Francisco Bay Area and what they may mean for the future. The lecture will discuss Native American earthquake lore and legends, the San Andreas Fault System, a summary of seismic activity over the last 200 years in the Bay Area, results from backyard seismometers in Santa Clara Valley, earthquake prediction efforts including the Parkfield experiment, and forecasts for future quakes in the region. The event will be held on April 29, 1999 at 7:00pm at the USGS Conference Room in Menlo Park, and the Earth Science Information Center will remain open until after the lecture.
