Architecture, Power, and National Identity Essay examples
Having a sense of belonging is one of several fundamental human needs and national identity refers
to a person s sense of belonging to one country with its history, values and traditions. Since
achieving independence in 1957, the issue of Malaysia s national identity has been in the spotlight
due to its strong social, political and economical factors implication. As a multi cultural country, the
search for a national identity is not an easy undertaking as Malaysians consist of different ethnics
such as Malay, Chinese and Indian. Each ethnic group contributes their own unique culture and
religion, hence making it difficult to form a Malaysian identity. In fact, in September 2010, Prime
Minister Najib Tun Razak announced the 1 Malaysia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term, vernacular architecture, was first used by architectural theorists to describe buildings that
seemed not to have been consciously designed and affected by the intellectual and artistic currents
of the Renaissance (Dell Upton, 1983).
With the growing presence of globalization and modernization, the pre industrial building heritage
is indeed under threat with modern methods prevailing. In that vein, we are seeing how the designs,
use and meanings of these traditions change within the concepts of the contemporary processes in a
globalized world (Lindsay Asquit, Marcel Vellinga, 2006).
The societal effects are evident in the negotiation of identity, and the definition and value of key
concepts like tradition, modernity and place (Lindsay Asquit, Marcel Vellinga, 2006). One of the
most engaging aspects that is relevant to the discourse of how vernacular architecture is tradition. It
has been a major theme in writings on vernacular architecture (Al Sayyad, 2004). According to the
values Victor Papanek exposed in his theory that vernacular architecture is the result of multiple
causation , tradition as practiced in vernacular architecture can be displayed via a cultural
explanation: In a traditional setting, there are many that determine an auspicious date before
starting construction, by way

Sally Asimov
Sally is a fictional story written in 1953 by Isaac Asimov about driverless cars that are capable of
communicating. The story relates to the vehicles of today and the news articles of today. Both
stories, Sally and the Newsela article, talk about driverless and cars that communicate with other
cars, but only the Newsela article is based off of real life. The Newsela article talks about how
new cars are able to communicate with each other, and how they tell each other about obstacles
and other things on the road. Sally talks about cars that drive by themselves and how the cars
communicate with each other. V2V will provide 360 degree situational awareness on the road,

Christmas Child Reflection
Operation Christmas Child has been a part of more than half of my life. I started volunteering
when I was eight at a family friend s church. However, the only reason I volunteered was because
I needed community service hours for school. I always secretly wished to be put in the packing
group since it had the least leadershiprole because I never wanted to be a leader. What I did not
know at that time, was those years before high schoolwere preparing me for what God had in store
for me. When I started my freshman year in high school, I still had to do community service. This
led me to continue doing Operation Christmas Child. I was now volunteering at my school,
Trinity Christian High School along with my athletic director, Mr. Fitz, who was in charge of
running it. Even though this was taking place somewhere else, I expected that I would still be
able to have a role not involving leadership. This was not the case because Mr. Fitz had
something else in store for me. He assigned to me the role of the log sheets, which included
talking to people, writing down the amount of boxes were dropped off, and making sure the logs
were neat and correct. I was very nervous to take on this role, so much that I would start to shake
causing me to get anxious and start sweating right before I would have to talk to someone. There
was a routine I went through every time. Hello, have you dropped boxes off here before? I asked.
Yes, I have a school teacher said. Great, what church or

Summary Of Once More To The Lake By E. B White
E.B White, author of Once More to the Lake explores the dynamic relationship between father and
son to convey the power of memory and the inevitable chill of mortality. The symbol of the
dragonfly and the lake creates a sense of duality while introducing subtle changes throughout the
essay. The dragonfly and the sense of duality serves White s purpose by using it to compare and
contrast the position of father and son. The duality of the dragonfly empitomizes the common
theme of time being an illusion by saying that, There had been no years between the ducking of this
dragonfly and the other one the one that was part of memory (433). The double voicing,
questionable tone of the quote illustrates the parental realization that everyone

Zheng He Legacy
Almost a century before Christopher Columbus s voyages, Zheng He a Chinese admiral traveled
past China to the east coast of Africa and some of the Indian Ocean. On He s first voyage, he had
about 255 ships and 27,500 crew members compared to Columbus who only had three ships and
90 crew members. Zheng He traveled more than any other explorer before his time. Yet He isn t
celebrated. Although Zheng He did give Chinaa good trading reputation, he didn t do it in the best
way; for example, Zheng He took too many voyages in order to accomplish his legacy, which
included killing barbarians for not offering China a tribute. Despite the fact that Zheng He had
ships that were almost five times the size of Columbus s and that Zheng s crew was

Tale Of Genji Critical Lens
I think that one of the main points for the first source, The Tale Of Genji, is that Japanese literature
can be just as important and masterful as European/Western and that The Tale of Genji shows that
by being amazingly written. I see that in this quote: If nothing else, the publication of this new
translation informs (or reminds) readers that there is a Japanese novelout there as complex and
masterful as any published in the West. That it was written 1,000 years ago in the Far East, and by
a woman, makes us question our long standing ideas about the roots of the modern novel . This
quote shows that because It says that we might need to question our ideas about the roots of the
novel. That is important to the theme because it s saying that

From the Los Angeles Times, the following article focuses on a relevant topic from Chapter
twelve in the textbook, Warranties. The article titled, Kia Offers Hyundai s Warranty Coverage (O
Dell, 2000), are relevant topic of Warranty. The article s main subject is focusing on both car
dealers, Kia and Hyundai, where Kia MotorsAmerica launched the longest warranty in the auto
industry, which is identical to Hyundai Motor Americas 10 year, 100,000 mile coverage warranty.

understanding that Kia is putting their confidence and character as a company into the warranty,
and any customer dissatisfaction of the product not only hurts the reputation of Kia but it breaches
an understanding of the warranty and thus puts the control in the customer s hands for the term of
that warranty.
Ultimately, in my opinion relative to the article and the topic of warranty in general discussed in
Chapter Twelve, brings to light how a warranty not only is a contract and a written agreement
between the buyer and the seller, but it is an agreement of having a good title, reputation and a
business etiquette that the seller is promising to the buyer. This article also brings to light how the
concept of warranty is not only putting the company s reputation on the line, it is promising
certain performances that if not lived up to would be a breaching of the warranty and thus a
breaking of the trust and reputation of the company between seller and buyer. As described in
Chapter Twelve of the textbook, a good title warranty seems to be what Kia is trying to establish for
its customers, which in my humble opinion is genius to copy Hyundai knowing that their sales
soared after initiating an identical warranty.
This type of warranty although puts the control in the hands of the consumer for the length of the

different species given it is at the same time and location. It is composed of many species whose
interactions are influence by biotic and abiotic factors. These factors play a key role on the
abundance and distribution which contributes to the structure of an ecological community (Kerb

prevents weeds from growing, also cardboard will decompose over a period of time which

Sociological Speculation through Theory
A)Socialist feminism argues that both men and women may also believe that economic and
emotional dependence go hand in hand. Fearful of the loss of economic security, a husband s
power over his wife is absolute. An example of this characteristic from the socialist branch can
be seen in my own personal life. When I was growing up, I experienced how my father would
completely disregard my mother and her duties serving the household and the family, as she was
a stay at home mom and my father worked and got paid for his labor. Her domestic work was
trivialized as my father felt that he was doing real work. Because of this, my mother was quite
submissive towards my father s behavior because she felt that she needed him for financial
security and that she could not be capable of anything without him. B)Liberal feminists believe
society does not have to be completely restructured to achieve empowerment for women and to
incorporate women into meaningful and equitable roles. An example of this characteristic from
the liberal branch is seen in the political system in the United States. It is harder for women to
advance in politics due to the fact that it is a realm that has been dominated by men for a long
period of time. In today s day and age, we see more female politicians coming to the forefront, and
are dissolving the notion that politics only involves men by showing that they too are
knowledgeable and interested in the political processes. This demonstrates liberal

Many businesses make the fatal error of trying to expand at a quick rate which equates to
diminishing profit margins and going out of business. Kudler has chosen to grow slowly. This
will work to Kudler s benefit as long as KFF continues to move forward and not become
complacent. If growth cannot be sustained, the market will become stagnant and ultimately destroy
all that Kudler has worked towards. Kudler Fine Foods has discovered a market that is not overly
saturated and can prosper if a competent strategy is organized and executed. Kudler wants to
continue growing throughout California with goals of becoming a national gourmet food chain. In
order to achieve this, the president and chief operating officer, Kathy Kudler will have to continue
expanding in all areas including technology, products, human resources, systems and ideas. She will
also have to continue re investing profits into the company to ensure lasting growth and sustainable
cash. The marketing strategies of rewards programs, store demonstrations and incorporating
organic products are essential. Kudler also needs to devise additional promotions that will capture
the attention of the public. The company will need to hire a marketing consultant who will be able
to find ways to attract a broader clientele base and ensure that Kudler s name is visible within the
public domain by increasing awareness

How Did Cage Influence Theater Artist
Influence on Theater Artist and Practitioners.
Whether Cage directly influenced artists, it is difficult to put into context. Hence, one can argue
that Cage as stated in the introduction paragraph, made an impact on modern music through his
incorporation of avant garde instrumentation and the idea of ecological music was dictated by
chance. However, Cage had examined the use of avant garde music in experimental cinema. He
used chance, avant garde instrumentation, electro acoustics, ambient sound, and silence in his film
scores. In addition, Cage had collaborated with theater artist/practitioners such as Maya Deren,
Sidney Peterson, and Herbert Matter, who were central figures in American avant garde filmmaking
as well as experimental design. One can argue that indeed, Cage dealt with experimentation, and
innovation, chance operations, which is what avant garde, is essentially about. Therefore, this is the
major reason critics laud him, as one of the leading figures of the post war avant garde movement. It
is worth mentioning, that other experimental, artist and practitioners inspired some of his works.
One such artist was Robert Rauschenberg. He was especially interested in ... Show more content on

Jones also viewed Cage s work as an act of composition, and the execution of the composition, as

higher priority to the author s intent or choices of presentation than to the audience s capacity to
interpret that intent. (Jones 7) It quite clear, that although these examples of these artist
/practitioners, theoretically, are not considered to theater artist, one needs to mindful that these
artists such as Cunningham, Jones, performed their pieces in a theatrical space. Therefore, the
evidence now points to that, it is possible for Cage to have had an influence on avant garde theater

Resourcing Talent
Introduction.
It is essential for every organisation to understand the recruitment trends as by attracting the best
talent, organisations will have an advantage over their competitors. When talent planning,
organisations should promote a career opportunity, not a job opportunity as this gives a whole new
outlook to any potential employee.
The CIPD defines talent as those individuals who can make a difference to organisational
performance either through their immediate contribution or, in the longer term, by demonstrating
the highest levels of potential.
1.2 Identify and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.3 Three factors that affect an organisation s approach to recruitment and selection.
Skills.
It is important to identify the skills needed for new roles. This can be done by creating a job
description for the role in questions. Furthermore, an organisation can identify, through the job
description, whether the skills already exist within the organisation or if it is necessary for external
recruitment.
Cost.
Recruitment can be a very costly exercise, especially if not done correctly. It is therefore important
to have a recruitment plan in place. A company has to first identify if it wants to promote from
within or recruit externally. Does the company want to take on the recruitment procedure itself or
use an employment agency? Ensuring that the correct message is put across can eliminate the need
for second interviews as the criteria would have been specified in the requirements.
Supply and demand.
There is a large supply and demand for employees in the care sector. Being able to anticipate the
need for staff plays a large part in how a company approaches recruitment. To attract new talent, an
organisation may decide to include training as part of the induction process or alternatively, may
seek to recruit from European countries to meet the high demand of staff required.
2.1 Identify the benefits of three different recruitment methods.
Job adverts.
Advertising is the most popular way of recruiting.

Juan Ponce Dummon Research Paper
Juan Ponce de LeГіn
Born in SantervГЎs de Campos, Spain, in 1460, Juan Ponce de LeГіn had sailed on expeditions
with Christopher Columbus, and then sailed to the New World on expeditions of his own later on.
Although most commonly known for his exploration for the Fountain of Youth, Ponce de LeГіn
proved to be a great explorer for having resolved the rebellion that had erupted in Hispaniola, but

Juan Ponce had explored the idea of traveling to Puerto Rico when the natives, Taino Indians, of a

Ancient Celtic History
I agree with the quote history is written by the victor (Winston Churchill) as it is something true
about history. Not only do the victors get to write history but they also get to hide or even eliminate
some or all of an event. The victor is the one who ultimately gets to burn the other side s history,
their knowledge or discoveries, libraries, and their culture. The victor will most likely enslave or
execute the loser bringing their buildings, towns, and cities down to the ground. An example that
highlights the truth behind this quote is the elimination of the Celtic civilization. Who were the
Celts? is stated in the article Ancient Celtic historythis suggests that with what the Romans have
written about them and the archaeological evidence discovered still little is known about the Celts.

Another point made by the author was the only surviving accounts to make reference to the
Celtic people were written by Roman and Greek historians so why if the Celtic civilization was
well developed and had a written language are there almost no records written by them? The
answer is because once they were forced under Roman rule the Romans took it upon themselves as
the victor to eliminate their culture, their language, and advances. Not having many records written
by the loser would allow the Romans or the victor to write history depicting the loser or in this case
the Celts as they pleased and would allow them to hide certain events to their convenience. Another
example that supports the quote history is written by the victor is the Renaissance. Until recently it
was believed that Europe had been fully responsible for the Renaissance, however, it was

Egypt And The Muslim Influence On Eating
Egypt and the Muslim Influence on Eating
Maquelin Santana
Hudson County Community College
Abstract
This paper explores the religion, history, and food culture of Egypt. It discusses the geographic
setting and environment that affects the food availability and water supply for the Muslims. The
distinct eating and dietary habits are explained and how they have evolved into modern society.
Also, Egypt s national food is listed along with the history behind it. Lastly, the paper explores the
different holiday and religious celebrations that Muslims celebrate and what foods are consumed
during each feast. Egypt and the Muslim Influence on Eating
Along with other variables that effect the Muslim diet, religion has had a big influence on Egyptian
eating habits. The distinct eating and dietary habits of Muslims helped to create a rich blend of
cuisines that have evolved into modern society. Many of the foods that were consumed in ancient
Egypt, are still consumed in households today.
The Arab Republic of Egypt is located in the northeastern region of Africa. The climate is arid
and dry and most of the country receives less than one inch of rain fall per year. The widespread
lack of rainfall makes it extremely difficult to grow crops. Egypt has no forests and only 2 percent
of the land is arable (land that can be farmed). The Nile was the giver of life for the ancient
Egyptians. The Nile River, the longest river in the world, provided water to drink and fish like

Analysis of the Case Law
Analysis of the Case Law There is no prescribed constitutional relationship between the courts and
the executive, but the judges assert their inherent power, derived from the rule of law, to review
executive actions
The question starts off by giving us an element of the separation of powers when it says that there is
no prescribed constitutional relationship between the courts and the executives.
The concept of separation of powers propounded by Montesquieu, the French political philosopher,
has three main criteria:
(i) There are three main classes of governmental functions: the legislature, the executive and ...

The starting point for judicial review of administrative action is that public authorities will be
restrained from exceeding their powers (acting ultra vires) and inferior tribunals will be prevented
from exceeding the limits of their jurisdiction. This important constitutional function of containing
both the Executive and inferior tribunals within the limits of their authority has long been exercised
by the courts. In the seventeenth century it was established that the Crown could not set itself
above the law by a bare assertion of prerogative. Today, the ultra vires doctrine prevents public
authorities from doing anything the law forbids, or taking action for which they have no statutory
authority.
The term Ultra vires was first generally used to denote excess of legal authority by independent
statutory bodies and railway companies in the middle years of nineteenth century,[2] though the
main features to the doctrine to which this name was given had already been taking shape over a
long period in relation to the powers of common law corporations. The term came to be used in
relation to municipal corporations, then to the other new types of local government authorities, and
finally to the Crown and its servants and even to inferior judicial bodies.

Romanticism And Romanticism
In Anna Karenina, Vintage Tolstoy said, He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if
she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking. If he tags a girl likes the sun,
which means he is not seeing anything else, seeing nothing but only that girl in his eyes. Just a
few short words that have great train wreck coming and only those who are always delusions of love
frantically, can claw up such that verse. With a person who always adores love and follows the
feeling like me, the Romantic era got me in.
The major strides give people a better understanding of the human person the central figure of art, a
better understanding of the relationship between human nature, and also society. In this context
appeared more likely, many artistic movements, what s including Romanticism, are present in the
field of literature, painting, music... Romanticism comes from the romances of medieval times,
which to refer to knights, heroes, and distant lands, unfinished love ... It s the result of emotional
expression, subjective mood of the people, by reflecting the dreams and aspirations of ordinary
people should rise above reality.
The Wuthering Height by Emily Bronte is a diamond in the treasures of English literature. At the
beginning of the novel, it was a little sleepy and we would see some strange things in the house
with Heathcliff, who was a very understanding person. However, a little chapter later, we would
become increasingly drawn into the novel.

The Marriage Strike
If one were to read any article by the average woman in the media and some males for that matter
regarding the declining state of marriage rates today. One could reasonably think that the reason
marriages are on the decline is that women are choosing not to get married or some other such tripe
that ineffectively attempts to hide the truth of the matter. (Ayanna, G. 2010), (Dewitt.1992),
(Rosenbloom, 2006), (Campbell, 2001) The actual reason for the decline in marriagerates is not
because women don t want to get married (a bitter anthem recited in retaliation to men s rejection
of marriage.) but due to The Marriage Strike. According to an article in O magazine author, Ann
Marsh notes, A marriage strike is the social phenomena... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women initiate these unilateral divorces on demand three times as often as men do (Whitehead
et al 2002). While the courts may grant the former spouses joint legal custody, the odds are
nearly 40 to one of the wife winning physical custody (US Census Bureau. 2000). Once the
couple is divorced, odds are at least even that the wife will interfere with the husband s visitation
rights. Three quarters of divorced men surveyed say their ex wives have interfered with their
visitation, and 40 percent of mothers studied admitted that they had done so and that they had
generally acted to punish their exes (Rubin, 1997). Then, of course, there is the issue of
financial losses due to court imposed payments. In the end, the wife will keep most of the
couple s assets and the house. The husband will need to set up a new residence and pay at least a
third of his take home pay to his ex in child support, on top of whatever alimony payments the
courts impose on him. These can run as high as another third of his income. Add the cost of
taxes to that and the man gets to keep exactly 13% of his take home pay (Rubin, 1997).
Nevertheless, as bad as all this is, it would still make our hypothetical man the lucky one. After
all, he could be one of those fathers who cannot see his children at all because his ex has made a
false accusation of domestic violence, child abuse, or child molestation. He could be one of those

Apple Martin Luther King Essay
The nature of the universe is that it is not at all a random universe, but instead, is driven by
people s believes. Everything has its own cause or purpose for its existence. Things that has a
favorable cause or meet the demand and satisfy people will more likely to survive and grow in
comparison with the others. Sinek gives three examples of Apple, Martin Luther King and Wright
brothers to prove his point. He mentions that though they have the same aspects and conditions as
others, what makes them different is that they all think, act and communicate the exact same way.
And it s the complete opposite to everyone else . Because they think inside out, which is focusing
on why they do that to attract people and even drive the world the way they... Show more content on

In another way, people don t buy what you do; they buy why you do it. If you talk about what
you believe, you will attract those who believe what you believe . The example of the
commercial advertising of Apple versus other competitors really reflects this statement. Just a
change in the message of the product from the company can eventually impact the attitude of the
customers and their decision of buying the product. If we do not see why we should one product
although we see all its outstanding features, we just don t feel right and are not persuaded enough
to purchase it. Thus, a successful company or people know clearly their purpose and strongly
believe what makes them do that can influence other people s thought and believes. Thus, human
beings are likely to prefer things that match their expectation and values or believes. They choose
to follow those that they believe are right because they see themselves in those things. For
instance, in Sinek s talk, numerous people showed up to hear Dr. King speak despite no invitation
since they showed up for themselves. It s what they believed about America that got them to travel
in a bus for eight hours to stand in the sun in Washington in the middle of August . In addition,
Sinek uses biological structure of a human brain to explain the correlation between the human
feelings and behaviors like decision making to prove why we need to feel right to be persuaded in

Compare And Contrast Japan And United States
Have you ever wondered about other countries outside of the United States? Have you thought
about how different their foods, religions, and languages are from yours? There are many
countries that are very different from the United States, especially Japan. Japan is only a short
6,000 miles away from the United States, but have strikingly different foods, religions, and
languages. Now then, let s see how much different the United States is from Japan. You know
that chicken ramen in your cabinet, wrapped in the plastic covering? The japanese are laughing
at the United States pathic attempt to recreate one of the best known dishes in Japan. The
Japanese also enjoy eating sushi, rice, curry, green tea, tofu, etc. Most of these dishes are served
across Japan and are eaten almost daily. Also, Japan is well known for their slow cooked, well
spiced, and very rich foods cooked to perfection. If you think about what you normally eat in a day,

In Japan, most of the population practice Shinto or Buddhism. Something I found interesting was
that religion isn t such a big part of daily life in Japan while, most americans are more involved in
religion throughout the day. Shinto is from the eighth century and is the worship of the ancestors,
natural spirits, and the belief in the power of Kami in both living and nonliving things. Buddhism
is the belief that life is full of suffering and the way to end suffering is to enable one to stop the
endless births and deaths to which one is otherwise subject to.Even though Christianity, Islam, and
Judaism aren t as common in Japan, many people still practice this there. Some people consider
themselves as believing in neither of these religions while other many consider themselves to

Content Validity
Content validity is often seen as a prerequisite to criterion validity, because it is a good indicator of
whether the desired trait is measured. If elements of the test are irrelevant to the main construct,
then they are measuring something else completely, creating potential bias. In addition, criterion
validityderives quantitative correlations from test course. Content validity is qualitative in nature,
and asks whether a specific element enhances or detracts from a test or research program. How is
content validity is measured by using surveys and tests, each questions is given to a panel of

Pica Disorder: Eating disorders are a serious mental illness, not a lifestyle choice. Millions of
people have to deal with inner demons on a daily basis, some more serious than others but one
that is severe, is Pica disorder. Pica disorder is an eating disorder where people have an appetite for
non nutritive, inedible materials and become addicted to eatingitems such as clay, nail polish,
drywall, light bulbs and much more. This disorder causes victims to eat unimaginable things and

many people, eating strange items becomes the norm, but in many countries eating strange items
is the norm in order to survive. Environment also plays a key factor in pica disorder. In other
countries eating odd item is the norm because it is necessary for them to survive. In many

will turn to inedible sources such as dirt and clay in order to stay alive. This is a sad way of life,

Virtual School Research Paper
Considering going to a virtual school? Well imagine this, you re sitting at your computer and you
pick up your phone and go onto Instagram. Your feed is blowing up with pictures from
homecoming game and dance, you feel left out seeing all your middle school friends having the
time of their lives while your stuck at home with your schoolwork. My point is students should not
go to virtual high schoolfor an abounding amount of reasons including lack of structure and social
opportunities.
Let me start off by saying virtual school has very minimal structure on students, they re allowed to
set their own schedules and students that have little or no motivation will procrastinate and push
their work off, resulting in lower work ethic coming from the student. With the little amount of
structure virtual schools give, parents will have to monitor their children more closely and
frequently. This is a major toll for parents with priorities or jobs that gather their time during the
day on top of all of this, the state curriculum has changed a multitude of times in the years. The
adults may not know how to help with the work since it s changed since they went to school, this
will make it a lot harder for the student not having anyone around to show them how the work
works. An equally important point to consider is not only is there ... Show more content on

Organic Farming Essay
Since the time of when early settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, farming has proven to be a
reliable solution to many crises within the food industry. After all, learning how to farm from the
Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple
centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers
began seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical
fertilizers also happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further
influenced the ones today. However, the introduction of organic farmingmethods has created uproar
within the agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the
leading icon for how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey
towards revitalizing the United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were
formed based upon the issues that industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals:
Practicing Complexity, industrial farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic
unlike Polyface s system, which is more difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as
disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use

A Brief Note On Poverty And Its Effects On The United States
2.Poverty
In 2013 more than half of the Honduran population lived below the poverty line, with six out of
ten rural families living in extreme poverty. Honduras also ranked among the most unequal
countries in the region, and its middle class was among the smallest in LAC. Low levels of
economic inclusion, limited social mobility, and the extreme vulnerability of lower income
households to a wide range of shocks have made poverty in Honduras especially deep and
intractable. Over the past 15 years more and more Hondurans have left the country to seek
opportunities abroad, particularly in the US, and due to years of large scale migration Honduras
now has one of the world s highest levels of remittances as a share of GDP. Although remittances
have enormous potential to reduce poverty and increase incomes among households in the lower 40
percent of the income distribution, emerging evidence suggests that they may also be causing
Dutch Disease effects, as well as draining the country s human capital stock and potentially
discouraging labor force participation among domestic workers. These dynamics have had
significant effects on poverty trends. Remittances, together with labor income and employment,
have been the main drivers of shifting poverty levels over the last decade. Cash transfers have had
a positive impact on extreme poverty and social indicators, but their scope is very limited compared
with similar programs elsewhere in the region. While structural reforms and

The Birthplace Of A Nation
The Birthplace of a Nation
Walking along an old dirt road that was once, in days gone by, a trade route used by Native
Americans, my attention is drawn to a simple, little building in the middle of a peaceful field. I
can hear the sweet mockingbird s song, insects buzzing, the odd acorn falling from a tree and
hitting the ground with a soft thud, and a gentle rustling of the leaves as the breeze blows through
the magnolia trees. To imagine what took place here nearly two hundred years ago is truly a
spectacular experience! Who would have thought that a cabin once designed to be a modest
mercantile would be miraculously transformed into a symbol of freedom and an inspiration of
courage? Rich in history, a symbol of the heritage of Texas, the birthplace of a nation this is
Independence Hall.
Independence Hall is a humble, one room, wooden cabin located at the Washington on the
Brazos Historic Site in Texas. At first glance, this modest place may not appear significant, after
all, it was designed to be a practical, little mercantile. But this place is so much more than a
mercantile: it is a symbol of a heritage that belongs to all Texans today as well as to all lovers of
freedom and truth.
It was late fall in the year 1835 when unrest began brewing in the hearts of many Texans in what
was then a part of Mexico. These Texans felt that Mexico had not kept her word regarding the
individual rights of her citizens. With the Alamo being under attack by the Mexican army, and

Similarities Between Medea And Legally Blonde
The Murderess and the Fashionista Throughout literary history, there have been a majority of
stories based on males and their adventures. But what about fictional works based on strong
women? In Ancient Greece, Medea was focused on a leading woman who was driven and
ambitious. A more modern film, Legally Blonde, shows a girl persistently going against the flow
to make dreams come true. Today, I am going to show how the plot and personalities of Elle Wood
from Legally Blonde and Medeaare alike using their shameful break ups, revenge, friendships,
obstacles, and how this makes them good heroes. What shame was brought about when Jason
dumped Medea? To answer this, there are a few basic things that need to be understood about
women in Ancient Greece. In this age, women were thought to be a man s servant: whether she
serve for strictly sexual pleasure or to also raise his offspring, women were of little to no status
without a man. In fact, they would not have been considered citizens. Although women could...

self worth. Both of our heroes would have been in a pickle without their sidekick friend.
Speaking of friendships, Aegeus and Paulette are just one human similarity. There is a chorus in
both stories, although Medea s is a bit more traditional. In Legally Blonde, it begins by showing
our sorority chorus talking about how Elle is waiting for Warner to propose and how the two are
meant to be. During the story, they call her up to ask how things are going and fill her in on what
is going on at home. In Medea, she confides to a chorus of women who tell the audience how we

The Process Of Management By Exception
So, the process of management by exception is essentially about ensuring the management focuses
on the policy strategies and decisions, getting involved with the day to day activities only when
large deviations occur. What about the principles? What are some of the core characteristics you
need to ensure are in place for the system to work?
A systematic approach
Management by exception requires a systematic approach to work. What this means in practice is
that all the operational needs and requirements of the organisation must be properly understood
and outline. Essentially, the organisation must be aware of everything going on and have a clear
set of standards it follows. Management by exceptions cannot be achieved without a proper set of
standards and procedures. Quite simply, you can t notice deviations, if you don t even know what
the standard or the so called norm looks like.
The framework requires a rather meticulous approach to implementation. In order to establish a
systematic approach and guarantee positive results, your should take the following steps:
Analyse operational needs and requirements, as well as data.
Create and maintain a set of policy standards.
Collect, classify, draft and interpret reports.
Make decisions based on the pre determined requirements.
If you have a set of goals for the management style, you focus on determining the deviations your
organisation should be alarmed by, and you establish a routine for collecting and analysing data,

Management Styles Throughout the World
Running head: MANAGEMENT STYLES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
Management Styles throughout the World
Tambra Sullivan
Minot State University BADM 535
Abstract
A management style is a leadership method used by a manager. As diverse as cultures are
throughout the world, so are management styles. A key value underlying the American business
system is reflected in the notion of a never ending quest for improvement. The prevailing question
is can it be done better? (Roa, 2010). In other cultures, the strength and power of those in command
rest on the premise that the status quo demands stable structure. (Roa, 2010). Researchers debate
whether it is organizational or ethnic culture that is predominant. In today s business environment,

It can create an environment of fear and resentment, leading to high turnover and absenteeism. It
can also stifle creative ideas and limit fresh ideas. (Kisner, 2011). Of all the management styles, this
one is the only one that lends itself toward a tendency for abuse by the manager. Some managers
take their role to extreme, belittling and humiliating employees by yelling or reprimanding them in
public. It is also the least likely management style to show praise for a job well done, instead
opting for reprimands for mistakes made.
Democratic
Democratic leadership solicits input from others. (Bateman Snell, 2009). This type of manager is
open to the opinions of others and welcomes their contribution in the decision making process.
(Democratic Leadership, 2010). For this management style to work successfully, robust
communication between the managers and the subordinates is a must. It is best used when making
decisions on complex matters where a range of expert advice and opinion is required. An advantage
with this style, since employees are involved in the decision making process, they are more
committed to the desired outcome. Another advantage is it creates a collaborative environment,
often resulting in more thorough solutions to problems. (Democratic Leadership, 2010). Many
employees report that they find this work environment enjoyable and experience a

The Negative Representation of the East in E.M. Forster’s...
In this paper I would like to argue that E.M. Forster s A Passage to India has represented the East
in a negative way. This is a traditional novel for exploring themes of racism and the effects of
colonialism. It deals with the tensions between India and the Britain during the British Raj in India.
The theme which determines the plot line of this novel is introduced in the beginning through the
conversation of Hamidullah, Mahmoud Ali and Aziz as They were discussing as to whether or no
it is possible to be friends with an Englishman. (5) It is this question which is the focal point of the
plot of A Passage to India. Can the East meet the West on a plane where each not only tolerates but
also appreciates the other? E.K. Brown is his essay Rhythm in E.M. Forster s a Passage to India
concludes that such a friendship is virtually impossible especially in India.
Apart from quoting Brown s point of view I have quoted various other critics including Edward Said
and Benita Parry to substantiate my claim. The racist attitude of the British toward the native
population and the oppression of Indians can be seen through the cruelty of Major Callendar, who
brags of torturing an Indian by putting pepper on his wounds is the most outrageous example. But
there are many others from McBryde s views on Indian s lust for white women, to Mrs. Turton s
foul ranting, to Mr. Turton s arrogance and Ronny Heaslop s ignorance. All of them except Fielding
assume that Aziz was guilty even before his

Cato s Analysis
In addition to training and self control, Rome was suggested to value discipline in education.
Children, specifically boys, were expected to be well schooled and regiments, physically and
mentally. Cato was spoken to have been his son s reading teacher, tutor, and athletic trainer,
forcing his son to fight and brave the extremes of nature (Plutarch 411). As Rome s military vigor
was seen as important to the strength of the empire, Plutarch hints that it was crucial for children
to be disciplined into great fighters. Cato s attention to his son s education had appeared to be
successful in Plutarch s eyes, as Cato s son grew into a formidable soldier despite his frail body
(412). Education was fundamental to Romans in order to practice discipline

Parliamentary Sovereignty In Uk Essay
The Labour Government passed the Human Rights Act 1998 to give further effect to the European
Convention on human rights in UK domestic law .Therefore, by incorporating convention rights,
higher judge s powers of discretion where increased, by allowing them to interpret Convention
rights wherever possible, and to scrutinize Parliamentary legislation under declarations of
incompatibility. Therefore, by increasing judge s powers, this essay will analyse whether this has

In A, V Dicey s definition, Parliamentary Sovereignty can be transferred into three principles:
Parliament can make or unmake any law on any subject, Parliament can change or repeal laws
passed by earlier parliament, and Acts of Parliament are the highest form of law, which means
their validity cannot be challenged. However, Parliamentary sovereignty was established through
the common law system, as no statute can confer this power . Therefore, the relationship between
the legislator and the judiciary is central to the doctrine, but the legislator is the superior power.
This is apparent in Parliament s passing of the War Damage Act 1965 , which overturned the
House of Lords decision in Burmah Oil v Lord Advocate , due to s, 1 abolishing rights at common

One s Own Demise In Hamlet

about a young man called Hamlet who is set by his father s ghost to avenge him. Hamlet is well

and there are some humility in showing that side. It s his indecision that makes the play Hamlet, the
Prince of Denmark more than a normal revenge story. Hamlet give reasons and thoughts to himself
in order to justify his hesitation which shows that he does not want to kill. However over time,

Hamlet seems obsessed with the concept of death. Along with his slipping sanity Hamlet is not
able to find any hard evidence making him act rash where he stages a play to make his own

sends two former friends of Hamlet to spy on him. Hamlet believes he is in control though when
he tells them, I do not well understand that. Will you play upon this pipe (III.ii.313). Hamlet
realizes what Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are up to and tells them nothing. Feeling that his

This scene could be considered the climax of the play where Hamlet knows for sure Claudius
killed the late king and Claudius knows Hamlet knows. This scene might seem like Hamlet s
actions caused the mistake, but Hamlet s inability to confront his uncle makes Hamlet to act with
hesitation. The cause of Hamlet s losing sanity is the king. Claudius seems to be the origin point
for almost all of Hamlet s problems: his dead father, his faithless mother, and the target for a
revenge plan he do seems hesitant on. Even when Hamlet confirms the fact that Claudius killed his
father, Hamlet does not act fast with a murder plan. It seems that Hamlet wants to avenge his father,

Officers are trained to use certain measures to prevent an incident from escalating to brutal or
deadly force and due to the environment of most minority communities, officers frequently have
to resort to use of force. In a study by the Center for Policing Equity, which took three years to
conduct, reviewed 19,000 cases of use of force by officers representing 11 cities between 2010 and
2015. They found that officers only employ use of force in 2 percent of all the policecitizen

Medicare
Imagine your grandmother, alone in her apartment sick and no food to eat. Well, there are
programs our government provides to our elderly to help them buy food, find a place to live and
most importantly, help insure them. Medicare is a program that was initially created by Harry S.
Truman in 1948, but Congress failed to enact it ( Curing the Health Care System ). Later it was
refined by LBJ in 1965 as part of Great Society to help the war on poverty . Medicare benefits
millions of senior citizens over 65 by giving them free health care or helping pay part of it. Before
Medicare there was private insurance that helped people, but with Medicare a lot more people have
access to health insurance. Today, Medicare provides over 52.3 million Americans with affordable
health insurance.
The government started taking action to help the elderly through social problems in the mid 19th
century. In May of 1964, Johnson had summed up his grand vision for America in a speech at the
University of Michigan, he declared that the Great Society demands an end to poverty and racial
injustice... just the beginning (Johnson). Before LBJ and Congress brought about the first major
change in Social Security, any government system that provides monetary assistance to people with
an inadequate or no income, by establishing Medicare for the seniors, elderly people bought their

The two main reasons to the passing of the Immigration Restriction Act was because of racism and
economic fears. The Immigration Restriction Act was also commonly known as the White
Australian Policy . There is evidence of racism all throughout this time; most being towards the
Chinese and Aboriginal cultures. One reason that the immigrationact was passed was because many
Australians were jealous or worried about the hard work that foreigner workforces were doing.
The white Australians were threatened by the fact that they could lose their jobs. A second reason
for the passing of the act was because they wanted to maintain racial purity . The third reason is
because of the wellbeing of Australia, white Australians used this as an excuse.... Show more

that South Sea Island Islanders (commonly known as Kanakas ) were imported as cheap labour

process is called black birding . Source 7 shows that the origins that the Policy was built on was
because of racial exclusiveness on the gold fields. The Dictation Test, as seen in source 5, was
given to all non European people attempting to enter Australia in the years between 1901 and
1958. The test was harsh and any foreigner who took the test was almost always set to fail. It was
incredibly unfair to the coolies that were trying to enter. Another reason that the immigration act
was passed was because of racial

Diana s Monologue
MOM! Diana can hear up the stairs, through the thin walls. Her daughter, Scarlet, stomps up the
creaky wooden stairs, careful to skip the missing step. Diana calls exasperatedly, In here, Scarlet.
Slamming the door open, Diana s eleven year old daughter storms across the small, cozy room,
coming to a stop at her mother s queen sized bed. A tear sheds from Scarlet s hazel eyes, her
auburn hair falling across her fair face. Dread seethes through Diana s veins, fear rising from the
pit of her almost anorexic stomach. Scarlet, what is it? Talk to me, she pleads. The child s mouth
twists into a grimace as she mumbles, Josh told me the reason you don t spend time with me
anymore is because because you don t love me. Diana s heart constricts. Seventeen year old Josh,
Scarlet s first crush, their next door neighbor, told Scarlet her mother had forgotten about her, that
she means nothing to Diana? Scowling, Diana pats the space next to her on the warm bed,
ignoring the pain; she s too sick to feel angry now. All she feels is sorrow... and dread for what she
needs to tell her baby, her happiness. Hesitantly, Scarlet scrambles... Show more content on

This morning. You had told me you needed to talk to me after breakfast? The princess frames
the sentence as a question, as if maybe she was wrong about her and Dayna s exchange this
morning. Oh. Yes, but I think we should take a walk first, Dayna says somberly. The ailing queen
is aware of her inconvenient stalling, for she is still identifying exactly what she will convey to her
cherished daughter. Thus, Dayna and Sienna gradually made their way toward the elegant flower
garden, Sienna attempting to make small talk with her mother every so often, but gave up when
she realized just how distracted Dayna had been for the last few

Analysis Of Samuel Huntington s The Clash Of The...
Samuel Huntington, the author of the clash of the civilisations believes that the World will
eventually divide in accordance with cultural lines, and not political lines. According to Huntington,
the thriving East Asian and Muslim societies will soon challenge Western dominance, and the
United States being the World leader will need to reevaluate its policies on foreign invention and
domestic immigration to remain a major player. During the Cold War, the world was divided into
the First, Second and Third Worlds. Huntington views these ties as insignificant now and states that
the remaking of the World order will be based upon cultural similarity. The different thriving
civilisations according to him today are the Western civilisation comprising of North America and
Western Europe, the Muslim civilisation, the Orthodox Civilisation led by Russia, the Chinese
civilisation, the Hindu civilisation, the Japanese civilisation, the Latin American civilisation and the
African civilisation. Huntington s proposition of the division of the World according to cultural
lines has been backed by the use of various examples by him; examples of events that have taken
place in the past.
An example supporting Huntington s notion would the breaking up of Yugoslavia into six
independent states namely Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and
Montenegro. This break up was caused due to ethnic and religious differences. It is also interesting
to point out that the Western

Similarities Between Locke And Hobbes
Most people in the eighteenth century believed in Newtonian science. Newton established natural
laws of the universe which then led people to compile a general list of laws that were from human
behaviors. In the chapter, there were two theories that were discussed. One being liberty while the
other being political. The political contract based in natural law was influenced by two English
philosophers, Thomas Hobbesand John Locke. The two shared diverse views. For example, Hobbes
believed that human being are selfish, greedy, and warlike. On the other side of the spectrum,
Locke believed that human beings have the natural ability to justify the common good, and to be
equal. The two philosophers believed that the government should be based

Harold W. Kroton
Sir Harold W.Kroto was using microwave spectroscopy to analyze the structure of carbon rich
stars, at the University of Sussex in England in the early 1980s. The analysis showed that the
atmosphere of the stars contained cyanopolyynes, which are composed of chains of carbon and
nitrogen atoms. Professor Kroto contacted Robert F.Curl at Rice University in Texas because
who had been using microwave spectroscopy to analyze clusters of metals formed with professor
Richard E.Smalley in his lab. Smalley had a device that could terminate any material into plasma.
Kroto joined Curl and Smalley in Smalley s lab to study the products of carbon vaporization, in
1985. They shined a high energy laser ray at a graphite surface by using a flow of helium... Show

The discovery of fullerenes also led to research in carbon nanotubes, the cylindrical cousins of

after their discovery, fullerenes provide abundant research opportunities in pure chemistry, materials
science, pharmaceutical chemistry, and nanotechnology. Buckminsterfullerenes are found in soot

Liberals Viewpoints
Liberals believe that everyone deserves a equal opportunity and that everyone should be equal.
Liberals also believe that the government should make sure that no one is in need and they also
emphasize that the government needs to play a big part to solve problems. Conservatives on the
other hand believe that people need to be more reliant on themselves that people need to be more
responsible for themselves, limited government, traditional American values and a strong defense.
One of the things that is dividing the country is the argument about whether the death penalty
should be allowed so when in the case of murder or someone deliberately takes the life of someone
else that they should be either punished with imprisonment or they should... Show more content on

Liberals say that the Second Amendment does not give people the right to keep or bear arms
but for a militia or a national guard. Liberals think that people do not need a gun for protection it
is the local and federal governments job to protect the people through law enforcement agencies
and the military and that more gun control laws are needed to stop gun violence and this also
would limit the ability for criminals to get their hand on a gun and cause more trouble than they
have already caused. To sum it up liberals believe that the more guns there are the more violence
there will be. Conservatives believe the opposite of what liberals believe they believe that the
Second Amendment gives people the right to keep and bear arms. Conservatives believe that
people have the right to bear arms their thinking what if someone breaks into your home and the
police or any law enforcement agency cannot get there in time and the person that is being
robbed has no way to defend themselves. People say but you can have a bat or something to
defend themselves against but what if the robber has a gun. Conservatives are saying a bat or any
other weapon like that is not going to stand a chance against a gun. A gun on gun is the only way
you can truly defend yourself is what conservatives are saying. One of the bigger problems that is
dividing the country is immigration. When people come into the country these people are looking

Drum Solo Research Paper
A drum solo is defined as being a instrumental solo played on the drum kit. A drum solo may be
preconceived or improvised, and of any length. Rock solos often times have little to absolutely no
accompaniment from the other band members and don t necessarily have to stick to the tempo,
form or structure of the song. Jazzdrumsolos on the other hand, often trade fours (or eights or
even twelves, in the case of blues) with other soloing instruments and will stick with the form and
structure. The 1980 s actually saw a decline in drummers recording drum solos because too many
drummers had done a lot of solos on record, but that doesn t mean some of the best solos didn t
come out in this decade. I put together a list that features 15 well known drum solos from the 1980 s.

Velcro Fly by ZZ Top from the Afterburner album released in 1987. From ZZ Top s electronic
period, probably the most complicated thing drummer Frank Beard did during this period. It s a
pattern that he repeats throughout the song, making the song most known, not for it s guitar but for
the drums, a rarity from a band with Billy Gibbons on guitar.
14. In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins from the Face Value album which was released in 1981. You
hear very little drums in this song, until the solo part, which after the solo the drums are very
pronounced.
13. Freedom by Alice Cooper from the Raise Your Fist and Yell album which was released in 1987.
For Alice Cooper, this is one of his heaviest albums, this song kicks off the album by showing it s
going to be heavier than anything he s ever done by doing some double bass drum work.
12. Radar Love by White Lion from the Big Game album which came out in 1989. This song was
a cover of the Golden Earring song. This solo features a trade off between just the drummer, and
the whole band playing along, and then he starts playing a little shuffle type, utilizing his ride

  • 2. Architecture, Power, and National Identity Essay examples Having a sense of belonging is one of several fundamental human needs and national identity refers to a person s sense of belonging to one country with its history, values and traditions. Since achieving independence in 1957, the issue of Malaysia s national identity has been in the spotlight due to its strong social, political and economical factors implication. As a multi cultural country, the search for a national identity is not an easy undertaking as Malaysians consist of different ethnics such as Malay, Chinese and Indian. Each ethnic group contributes their own unique culture and religion, hence making it difficult to form a Malaysian identity. In fact, in September 2010, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak announced the 1 Malaysia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term, vernacular architecture, was first used by architectural theorists to describe buildings that seemed not to have been consciously designed and affected by the intellectual and artistic currents of the Renaissance (Dell Upton, 1983). With the growing presence of globalization and modernization, the pre industrial building heritage is indeed under threat with modern methods prevailing. In that vein, we are seeing how the designs, use and meanings of these traditions change within the concepts of the contemporary processes in a globalized world (Lindsay Asquit, Marcel Vellinga, 2006). The societal effects are evident in the negotiation of identity, and the definition and value of key concepts like tradition, modernity and place (Lindsay Asquit, Marcel Vellinga, 2006). One of the most engaging aspects that is relevant to the discourse of how vernacular architecture is tradition. It has been a major theme in writings on vernacular architecture (Al Sayyad, 2004). According to the values Victor Papanek exposed in his theory that vernacular architecture is the result of multiple causation , tradition as practiced in vernacular architecture can be displayed via a cultural explanation: In a traditional setting, there are many that determine an auspicious date before starting construction, by way ... • 3. Sally Asimov Sally is a fictional story written in 1953 by Isaac Asimov about driverless cars that are capable of communicating. The story relates to the vehicles of today and the news articles of today. Both stories, Sally and the Newsela article, talk about driverless and cars that communicate with other cars, but only the Newsela article is based off of real life. The Newsela article talks about how new cars are able to communicate with each other, and how they tell each other about obstacles and other things on the road. Sally talks about cars that drive by themselves and how the cars communicate with each other. • 4. Christmas Child Reflection Operation Christmas Child has been a part of more than half of my life. I started volunteering when I was eight at a family friend s church. However, the only reason I volunteered was because I needed community service hours for school. I always secretly wished to be put in the packing group since it had the least leadershiprole because I never wanted to be a leader. What I did not know at that time, was those years before high schoolwere preparing me for what God had in store for me. When I started my freshman year in high school, I still had to do community service. This led me to continue doing Operation Christmas Child. I was now volunteering at my school, Trinity Christian High School along with my athletic director, Mr. Fitz, who was in charge of running it. Even though this was taking place somewhere else, I expected that I would still be able to have a role not involving leadership. This was not the case because Mr. Fitz had something else in store for me. He assigned to me the role of the log sheets, which included talking to people, writing down the amount of boxes were dropped off, and making sure the logs were neat and correct. I was very nervous to take on this role, so much that I would start to shake causing me to get anxious and start sweating right before I would have to talk to someone. There was a routine I went through every time. Hello, have you dropped boxes off here before? I asked. Yes, I have a school teacher said. Great, what church or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of Once More To The Lake By E. B White E.B White, author of Once More to the Lake explores the dynamic relationship between father and son to convey the power of memory and the inevitable chill of mortality. The symbol of the dragonfly and the lake creates a sense of duality while introducing subtle changes throughout the essay. The dragonfly and the sense of duality serves White s purpose by using it to compare and contrast the position of father and son. The duality of the dragonfly empitomizes the common theme of time being an illusion by saying that, There had been no years between the ducking of this dragonfly and the other one the one that was part of memory (433). The double voicing, questionable tone of the quote illustrates the parental realization that everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet He isn t celebrated. Although Zheng He did give Chinaa good trading reputation, he didn t do it in the best way; for example, Zheng He took too many voyages in order to accomplish his legacy, which included killing barbarians for not offering China a tribute. • 7. Tale Of Genji Critical Lens I think that one of the main points for the first source, The Tale Of Genji, is that Japanese literature can be just as important and masterful as European/Western and that The Tale of Genji shows that by being amazingly written. I see that in this quote: If nothing else, the publication of this new translation informs (or reminds) readers that there is a Japanese novelout there as complex and masterful as any published in the West. That it was written 1,000 years ago in the Far East, and by a woman, makes us question our long standing ideas about the roots of the modern novel . This quote shows that because It says that we might need to question our ideas about the roots of the novel. That is important to the theme because it s saying that ... The article titled, Kia Offers Hyundai s Warranty Coverage (O Dell, 2000), are relevant topic of Warranty. The article s main subject is focusing on both car dealers, Kia and Hyundai, where Kia MotorsAmerica launched the longest warranty in the auto industry, which is identical to Hyundai Motor Americas 10 year, 100,000 mile coverage warranty. Ultimately, in my opinion relative to the article and the topic of warranty in general discussed in Chapter Twelve, brings to light how a warranty not only is a contract and a written agreement between the buyer and the seller, but it is an agreement of having a good title, reputation and a business etiquette that the seller is promising to the buyer. This article also brings to light how the concept of warranty is not only putting the company s reputation on the line, it is promising certain performances that if not lived up to would be a breaching of the warranty and thus a breaking of the trust and reputation of the company between seller and buyer. As described in Chapter Twelve of the textbook, a good title warranty seems to be what Kia is trying to establish for its customers, which in my humble opinion is genius to copy Hyundai knowing that their sales soared after initiating an identical warranty. • 10. Sociological Speculation through Theory A)Socialist feminism argues that both men and women may also believe that economic and emotional dependence go hand in hand. Fearful of the loss of economic security, a husband s power over his wife is absolute. An example of this characteristic from the socialist branch can be seen in my own personal life. When I was growing up, I experienced how my father would completely disregard my mother and her duties serving the household and the family, as she was a stay at home mom and my father worked and got paid for his labor. Her domestic work was trivialized as my father felt that he was doing real work. Because of this, my mother was quite submissive towards my father s behavior because she felt that she needed him for financial security and that she could not be capable of anything without him. B)Liberal feminists believe society does not have to be completely restructured to achieve empowerment for women and to incorporate women into meaningful and equitable roles. An example of this characteristic from the liberal branch is seen in the political system in the United States. It is harder for women to advance in politics due to the fact that it is a realm that has been dominated by men for a long period of time. In today s day and age, we see more female politicians coming to the forefront, and are dissolving the notion that politics only involves men by showing that they too are knowledgeable and interested in the political processes. This demonstrates liberal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. How Did Cage Influence Theater Artist Influence on Theater Artist and Practitioners. Whether Cage directly influenced artists, it is difficult to put into context. Hence, one can argue that Cage as stated in the introduction paragraph, made an impact on modern music through his incorporation of avant garde instrumentation and the idea of ecological music was dictated by chance. However, Cage had examined the use of avant garde music in experimental cinema. He used chance, avant garde instrumentation, electro acoustics, ambient sound, and silence in his film scores. In addition, Cage had collaborated with theater artist/practitioners such as Maya Deren, Sidney Peterson, and Herbert Matter, who were central figures in American avant garde filmmaking as well as experimental design. One can argue that indeed, Cage dealt with experimentation, and innovation, chance operations, which is what avant garde, is essentially about. Therefore, this is the major reason critics laud him, as one of the leading figures of the post war avant garde movement. It is worth mentioning, that other experimental, artist and practitioners inspired some of his works. One such artist was Robert Rauschenberg. He was especially interested in ... • 17. Ancient Celtic History I agree with the quote history is written by the victor (Winston Churchill) as it is something true about history. Not only do the victors get to write history but they also get to hide or even eliminate some or all of an event. The victor is the one who ultimately gets to burn the other side s history, their knowledge or discoveries, libraries, and their culture. The victor will most likely enslave or execute the loser bringing their buildings, towns, and cities down to the ground. Not having many records written by the loser would allow the Romans or the victor to write history depicting the loser or in this case the Celts as they pleased and would allow them to hide certain events to their convenience. The starting point for judicial review of administrative action is that public authorities will be restrained from exceeding their powers (acting ultra vires) and inferior tribunals will be prevented from exceeding the limits of their jurisdiction. In the seventeenth century it was established that the Crown could not set itself above the law by a bare assertion of prerogative. Today, the ultra vires doctrine prevents public authorities from doing anything the law forbids, or taking action for which they have no statutory authority. The term Ultra vires was first generally used to denote excess of legal authority by independent statutory bodies and railway companies in the middle years of nineteenth century,[2] though the main features to the doctrine to which this name was given had already been taking shape over a long period in relation to the powers of common law corporations. The husband will need to set up a new residence and pay at least a third of his take home pay to his ex in child support, on top of whatever alimony payments the courts impose on him. These can run as high as another third of his income. Add the cost of taxes to that and the man gets to keep exactly 13% of his take home pay (Rubin, 1997). Nevertheless, as bad as all this is, it would still make our hypothetical man the lucky one. After all, he could be one of those fathers who cannot see his children at all because his ex has made a false accusation of domestic violence, child abuse, or child molestation. Everything has its own cause or purpose for its existence. Things that has a favorable cause or meet the demand and satisfy people will more likely to survive and grow in comparison with the others. Sinek gives three examples of Apple, Martin Luther King and Wright brothers to prove his point. He mentions that though they have the same aspects and conditions as others, what makes them different is that they all think, act and communicate the exact same way. They choose to follow those that they believe are right because they see themselves in those things. For instance, in Sinek s talk, numerous people showed up to hear Dr. King speak despite no invitation since they showed up for themselves. It s what they believed about America that got them to travel in a bus for eight hours to stand in the sun in Washington in the middle of August . Your feed is blowing up with pictures from homecoming game and dance, you feel left out seeing all your middle school friends having the time of their lives while your stuck at home with your schoolwork. My point is students should not go to virtual high schoolfor an abounding amount of reasons including lack of structure and social opportunities. Let me start off by saying virtual school has very minimal structure on students, they re allowed to set their own schedules and students that have little or no motivation will procrastinate and push their work off, resulting in lower work ethic coming from the student. With the little amount of structure virtual schools give, parents will have to monitor their children more closely and frequently. This is a major toll for parents with priorities or jobs that gather their time during the day on top of all of this, the state curriculum has changed a multitude of times in the years. After all, learning how to farm from the Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further influenced the ones today. However, the introduction of organic farmingmethods has created uproar within the agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more difficult to describe. A Brief Note On Poverty And Its Effects On The United States 2.Poverty In 2013 more than half of the Honduran population lived below the poverty line, with six out of ten rural families living in extreme poverty. Honduras also ranked among the most unequal countries in the region, and its middle class was among the smallest in LAC. Low levels of economic inclusion, limited social mobility, and the extreme vulnerability of lower income households to a wide range of shocks have made poverty in Honduras especially deep and intractable. Over the past 15 years more and more Hondurans have left the country to seek opportunities abroad, particularly in the US, and due to years of large scale migration Honduras now has one of the world s highest levels of remittances as a share of GDP. Although remittances have enormous potential to reduce poverty and increase incomes among households in the lower 40 percent of the income distribution, emerging evidence suggests that they may also be causing Dutch Disease effects, as well as draining the country s human capital stock and potentially discouraging labor force participation among domestic workers. These dynamics have had significant effects on poverty trends. Remittances, together with labor income and employment, have been the main drivers of shifting poverty levels over the last decade. Cash transfers have had a positive impact on extreme poverty and social indicators, but their scope is very limited compared with similar programs elsewhere in the region. But what about fictional works based on strong women? In Ancient Greece, Medea was focused on a leading woman who was driven and ambitious. A more modern film, Legally Blonde, shows a girl persistently going against the flow to make dreams come true. Today, I am going to show how the plot and personalities of Elle Wood from Legally Blonde and Medeaare alike using their shameful break ups, revenge, friendships, obstacles, and how this makes them good heroes. What shame was brought about when Jason dumped Medea? To answer this, there are a few basic things that need to be understood about women in Ancient Greece. In this age, women were thought to be a man s servant: whether she serve for strictly sexual pleasure or to also raise his offspring, women were of little to no status without a man. The Process Of Management By Exception So, the process of management by exception is essentially about ensuring the management focuses on the policy strategies and decisions, getting involved with the day to day activities only when large deviations occur. What about the principles? What are some of the core characteristics you need to ensure are in place for the system to work? A systematic approach Management by exception requires a systematic approach to work. What this means in practice is that all the operational needs and requirements of the organisation must be properly understood and outline. Essentially, the organisation must be aware of everything going on and have a clear set of standards it follows. Management by exceptions cannot be achieved without a proper set of standards and procedures. Quite simply, you can t notice deviations, if you don t even know what the standard or the so called norm looks like. The framework requires a rather meticulous approach to implementation. In order to establish a systematic approach and guarantee positive results, your should take the following steps: Analyse operational needs and requirements, as well as data. Create and maintain a set of policy standards. Collect, classify, draft and interpret reports. Make decisions based on the pre determined requirements. As diverse as cultures are throughout the world, so are management styles. A key value underlying the American business system is reflected in the notion of a never ending quest for improvement. The prevailing question is can it be done better? (Roa, 2010). In other cultures, the strength and power of those in command rest on the premise that the status quo demands stable structure. Some managers take their role to extreme, belittling and humiliating employees by yelling or reprimanding them in public. It is also the least likely management style to show praise for a job well done, instead opting for reprimands for mistakes made. Democratic Democratic leadership solicits input from others. This is a traditional novel for exploring themes of racism and the effects of colonialism. It deals with the tensions between India and the Britain during the British Raj in India. The theme which determines the plot line of this novel is introduced in the beginning through the conversation of Hamidullah, Mahmoud Ali and Aziz as They were discussing as to whether or no it is possible to be friends with an Englishman. Brown is his essay Rhythm in E.M. Forster s a Passage to India concludes that such a friendship is virtually impossible especially in India. Apart from quoting Brown s point of view I have quoted various other critics including Edward Said and Benita Parry to substantiate my claim. The racist attitude of the British toward the native population and the oppression of Indians can be seen through the cruelty of Major Callendar, who brags of torturing an Indian by putting pepper on his wounds is the most outrageous example. This was for many reasons but one main reason being the fact that the whites could lose their occupations and industries to a Chinese being, which were also known as coolies. Source 1 states that some of the earliest evidence was during the gold rush during the 1850 s, Chinese were hard workers and needed to support their families and themselves. It also states in source 1 that South Sea Island Islanders (commonly known as Kanakas ) were imported as cheap labour to work in Northern Queensland. This was so they could work on the sugar cane fields; the process is called black birding . Source 7 shows that the origins that the Policy was built on was because of racial exclusiveness on the gold fields. The Dictation Test, as seen in source 5, was given to all non European people attempting to enter Australia in the years between 1901 and 1958. The test was harsh and any foreigner who took the test was almost always set to fail. It was incredibly unfair to the coolies that were trying to enter. Another reason that the immigration act was passed was because of racial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Diana s Monologue MOM! Diana can hear up the stairs, through the thin walls. Her daughter, Scarlet, stomps up the creaky wooden stairs, careful to skip the missing step. Diana calls exasperatedly, In here, Scarlet. Slamming the door open, Diana s eleven year old daughter storms across the small, cozy room, coming to a stop at her mother s queen sized bed. A tear sheds from Scarlet s hazel eyes, her auburn hair falling across her fair face. Dread seethes through Diana s veins, fear rising from the pit of her almost anorexic stomach. Scarlet, what is it? Talk to me, she pleads. The child s mouth twists into a grimace as she mumbles, Josh told me the reason you don t spend time with me anymore is because because you don t love me. Diana s heart constricts. Seventeen year old Josh, Scarlet s first crush, their next door neighbor, told Scarlet her mother had forgotten about her, that she means nothing to Diana? Scowling, Diana pats the space next to her on the warm bed, ignoring the pain; she s too sick to feel angry now. All she feels is sorrow... and dread for what she needs to tell her baby, her happiness. Hesitantly, Scarlet scrambles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This morning. You had told me you needed to talk to me after breakfast? The princess frames the sentence as a question, as if maybe she was wrong about her and Dayna s exchange this morning. Oh. Yes, but I think we should take a walk first, Dayna says somberly. The ailing queen is aware of her inconvenient stalling, for she is still identifying exactly what she will convey to her cherished daughter. Thus, Dayna and Sienna gradually made their way toward the elegant flower garden, Sienna attempting to make small talk with her mother every so often, but gave up when she realized just how distracted Dayna had been for the last few ... • 45. Analysis Of Samuel Huntington s The Clash Of The... Samuel Huntington, the author of the clash of the civilisations believes that the World will eventually divide in accordance with cultural lines, and not political lines. According to Huntington, the thriving East Asian and Muslim societies will soon challenge Western dominance, and the United States being the World leader will need to reevaluate its policies on foreign invention and domestic immigration to remain a major player. During the Cold War, the world was divided into the First, Second and Third Worlds. Huntington views these ties as insignificant now and states that the remaking of the World order will be based upon cultural similarity. The different thriving civilisations according to him today are the Western civilisation comprising of North America and Western Europe, the Muslim civilisation, the Orthodox Civilisation led by Russia, the Chinese civilisation, the Hindu civilisation, the Japanese civilisation, the Latin American civilisation and the African civilisation. Huntington s proposition of the division of the World according to cultural lines has been backed by the use of various examples by him; examples of events that have taken place in the past. An example supporting Huntington s notion would the breaking up of Yugoslavia into six independent states namely Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro. This break up was caused due to ethnic and religious differences. It is also interesting to point out that the Western ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Similarities Between Locke And Hobbes Most people in the eighteenth century believed in Newtonian science. Newton established natural laws of the universe which then led people to compile a general list of laws that were from human behaviors. In the chapter, there were two theories that were discussed. One being liberty while the other being political. The political contract based in natural law was influenced by two English philosophers, Thomas Hobbesand John Locke. The two shared diverse views. For example, Hobbes believed that human being are selfish, greedy, and warlike. On the other side of the spectrum, Locke believed that human beings have the natural ability to justify the common good, and to be equal. The two philosophers believed that the government should be based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Harold W. Kroton Sir Harold W.Kroto was using microwave spectroscopy to analyze the structure of carbon rich stars, at the University of Sussex in England in the early 1980s. The analysis showed that the atmosphere of the stars contained cyanopolyynes, which are composed of chains of carbon and nitrogen atoms. Professor Kroto contacted Robert F.Curl at Rice University in Texas because who had been using microwave spectroscopy to analyze clusters of metals formed with professor Richard E.Smalley in his lab. Smalley had a device that could terminate any material into plasma. Kroto joined Curl and Smalley in Smalley s lab to study the products of carbon vaporization, in 1985. They shined a high energy laser ray at a graphite surface by using a flow of helium... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 49. Liberals Viewpoints Liberals believe that everyone deserves a equal opportunity and that everyone should be equal. Liberals also believe that the government should make sure that no one is in need and they also emphasize that the government needs to play a big part to solve problems. Conservatives on the other hand believe that people need to be more reliant on themselves that people need to be more responsible for themselves, limited government, traditional American values and a strong defense. One of the things that is dividing the country is the argument about whether the death penalty should be allowed so when in the case of murder or someone deliberately takes the life of someone else that they should be either punished with imprisonment or they should... Liberals think that people do not need a gun for protection it is the local and federal governments job to protect the people through law enforcement agencies and the military and that more gun control laws are needed to stop gun violence and this also would limit the ability for criminals to get their hand on a gun and cause more trouble than they have already caused. To sum it up liberals believe that the more guns there are the more violence there will be. Conservatives believe the opposite of what liberals believe they believe that the Second Amendment gives people the right to keep and bear arms. Conservatives believe that people have the right to bear arms their thinking what if someone breaks into your home and the police or any law enforcement agency cannot get there in time and the person that is being robbed has no way to defend themselves. People say but you can have a bat or something to defend themselves against but what if the robber has a gun. Conservatives are saying a bat or any other weapon like that is not going to stand a chance against a gun. A gun on gun is the only way you can truly defend yourself is what conservatives are saying. • 50. Drum Solo Research Paper A drum solo is defined as being a instrumental solo played on the drum kit. A drum solo may be preconceived or improvised, and of any length. Rock solos often times have little to absolutely no accompaniment from the other band members and don t necessarily have to stick to the tempo, form or structure of the song. Jazzdrumsolos on the other hand, often trade fours (or eights or even twelves, in the case of blues) with other soloing instruments and will stick with the form and structure. The 1980 s actually saw a decline in drummers recording drum solos because too many drummers had done a lot of solos on record, but that doesn t mean some of the best solos didn t come out in this decade. I put together a list that features 15 well known drum solos from the 1980 s. The List: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Velcro Fly by ZZ Top from the Afterburner album released in 1987.
