Paper Towns
The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is
mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There
are 305 pages in the book. A review this book got on it was The following is quite a lot of dribble
that I felt the need to get off my chest... . I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it
has some words that are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those
words. The most important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin
Jacobsen. Margo is quite a dare devil, she challenges herself A LOT. She sneaks out of the house at
night when her parents are asleep. Margo can be funny but then turn... Show more content on

Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do
things and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo
needed: Vaseline, six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and
one can of blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to
get revenge on her friends and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another
girl and her friends knew all along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was
cheating on her. I think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you
bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is
the theme because if Margo s friends have told her sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all
her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to
solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find
Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book was made into a movie, I would
have to compare 1 thing of the movie and book. Sea World In The Book In the book it talks about
how it s the ONLY theme park Margo has

John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay
In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third
meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the
individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and
no two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s
assumptioncrumbles. All photographscommunicate one absolute truth.
Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective
within a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth,
however, is beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on

Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph
becomes ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and
weather captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph.
Berger does not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes
landscapes because they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or
weather of a landscape, but the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to
apply meaning to landscapes is that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and
psychology to create a mythical truth, or a personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal
and singular, thus escaping Berger s imagination.
If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the
meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph?
Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph;
thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph
must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed
Berger any room for a personal reading.

Legal Drinking Age Essay
For many of the generations living today, the legal drinking age has always been set at twenty
one. In the 1980 s, it rose from eighteen to twenty one in an attempt to reduce the amount of
underage drunk driving accidents. The number of traffic fatalities has significantly declined over
the past few decades. However, many would argue that the law has spawned many new problems
as well, such as an increase in alcohol poisoning deaths and binge drinking.
As previously stated, the primary reason for adjustment to the legal drinking age was to address the
preposterous number of drunk driving accidents. The United States has experienced a decline in
all age groups over the last 25 years and for that, the law has been a success. Although these
statistics are encouraging, one must also wonder if more has contributed to this decline than the
law itself. 1984 was a completely different time period. Since then, airbags have become a
mandatory component of every car, and laws requiring that a seat belt must be worn are enforced
in most states, reducing the impact if one was to ever be involved in a crash. In addition to the
features inside of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the United States has seen improvements since the introduction of the risen legal age,
it is impossible to know for certain whether the decline in alcohol related traffic fatalities was
seen because of the change in legal age or not until both sides of the argument are tested and
proved. However, a higher legal age has not reduced drinking, but has driven it underground,
establishing a new problem for the country to consider instead. The problems we are facing today
are vastly different than those of 1984. After 30 years, it s time to examine the current
circumstances and make a decision based on what is best for the current state of the country, rather
than what solved the particular problem of a past

Since Columbine, in which two students carried out one of the most deadly school shootings in

blame for the terrible day in history.
Approximately 90 percent of kids in the U.S. play video games, and more than 90 percent of those

Examples Of Persuasive Speech On Domestic Violence Awareness
The Persuasive Speech
Name: Jessica BaezaSection: COMM 101 111
Speech Title: Love Should Not Hurt: Domestic Violence Awareness
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to increase domestic violence awareness
Organizational Pattern: Monroe s Motivated Sequence
INTRODUCTION:
(1) Attention Getting Device: According to an article titled Don t Believe in the War On Women?
Would a Body Count Change Your Mind? , since September 11, 2001 more American women
were killed by an intimate partner than all of the victims of 9/11 and all of the American military
fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan combined (Gidfar, 2012). One woman is fatally shot by a spouse,
ex spouse or dating partner every 14 hours, states Wright (2016) from the U.S. Department of
Defense, and these are just the statistics for women, but domestic violence happens to men, as well,
but less often.
(2) Thesis Statement: Everyone in this room has a voice. We can take a stand and use our voice to
educate ourselves and others on healthy relationships and decrease the number of women and men
who are victims of domestic violence.
(3) Justification: It does not just happen to other people or certain kinds of people (Day, 2016). It
can happen to our sisters. It can happen to our brothers. It can happen to our friends. It can happen
to our peers. It can happen to people we love (Repetition). Nearly three fourths of Americans know

The English Bildungsroman Essay
The English Bildungsroman
The novel has a strong tradition in English literature. In Great Britain, it can trace its roots back to
Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe in 1719 (Kroll 23). Since then, the British novel has grown in
popularity. It was especially popular in Victorian England. The type of novel that was particularly
popular in Victorian England was the novel of youth. Many authors of the time were producing
works focused on the journey from childhood to adulthood: Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre,
George Eliot wrote The Mill on the Floss, and Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield and Great
Expectations. All of these novels trace the growth of a child. In this respect, some of the most
popular novels of the nineteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the Bildungsroman is characterized by the growth, education, and development of a
character both in the world and ultimately within himself.
The Bildungsroman is subcategorized into very specific types of the genre, most often found in
German literature. There is the Entwicklungsroman, which can be defined as a chronicle of a young
man s general growth rather than his specific quest for self culture (Buckley 13). In other words, a
story recounting a man s life rather than focusing on the inner changes that contribute to his
maturity. Another form within German literature is the Erziehungsroman; this form is primarily
concerned with the protagonist s actual educational process (Buckley 13). Again, the concern is not
the overall development of the main character, but a specific aspect of that character s life. Finally,
there is the Kunstlerroman. The root Kunstler translates as artist in English. Therefore, this is the
development of the artist from childhood until his artistic maturity, focusing on the man as artist
rather than the man in general. Dickens David Copperfield and James Joyce s A Portrait of the
Artist as a Young Man are both examples of English Kunstlerroman, as the protagonists of both
books are writers (Buckley 13).
These categories, while strict within German literature, are more free within English literature. For
the most part, it is (within English literature) a

Online Purchase Behavior Of Consumers
Introduction
This chapter describes in detail the type of research method adopted, how the data was collected,
purpose of data collection and how this data will be analyzed to derive conclusive results. In the end
ethical issues have been discussed. The study aimed to understand the online purchase behavior of
consumers in India. The factors leading to an increase in online shopping, current trends in the
online retail market and to identify the demographic factors which influence the online purchase.
The literature review highlighted and identified important factors which influence behavior and
attitude of online consumers. These factors were considered and implemented while designing the
questionnaire.
Methodology
This research consists of both primary and secondary data. The secondary data was collected from
various sources such as academic journal, e books, corporate annual report and library sources
related to the research topic, online purchase behavior of consumers. The primary data was
collected by using the quantitative research method. This method involves usage of numbers and
statistical techniques to measure and identify underlying patterns. Researcher s personal
involvement is required and the results obtained can be used by other studying the same field (King
et al., 1994). Quantitative methods assume that behavioral patterns can be described with the help
of objective facts and therefore holds a positivist position (Firestone, 1987). Factor analysis was

African American Communities in Beloved
Thesis: Toni Morrison focuses on negative impact of slavery on the well being of African American
communities throughout her novel Beloved by depicting the damage done, its effects on individual
characters, and the renewal of community.
1. The enforcement of slavery has destroyed black communities and families 1. Families
throughout Beloved were split due to slavery 2. The community of 124 abandons its members 1.
Characters are negatively impacted by the lack of community 1. The deeds and traits of Six o

Stamp Paid confronted the wickedness of having a fellow black live in a empty lonesome cellar,
another example of the pain the community inflicts upon itself. They not only alienate Sethe and
her family, but Paul D for having relations with them. The community was longing for Sethe to
come on difficult times (155 Hinson), and Paul D was only another target for the community s
anger. Hajer Ayadi theorizes here that instead of taking care of a fellow ex slave Paul D, the
community once again fails to perform its role (Ayadi, 265).
Slavery destroyed African American communities, specifically Bluestone, and the damage is
evident when Sethe takes Beloved s life. The circumstances leading to the event is most
important however. When Sethe arrived at Bluestone all mashed up and split open carrying
newborn Beloved, Stamp Paid sets out to collect to bucket fulls of blackberries (Morrison, 159).
Sethe matches the buckets of fruit with chickens, fish, turkeys, and a list of other items. The
community quickly grows malice towards Baby Suggs grand display of wealth. Too much, they
thought. Where does she get it all...It made them furious (Morrison, 161). The community was
envious of how well Baby Suggs was doing. For Baby Suggs to have so much were His [God s]
powers they did not belong to an ex slave who had probably never carried one hundred pounds to

Health Promotion Is A Process Of Empowerment
The main purpose of this essay is to provide a critical analysis of....Discussion will centre round the
importance of utilising health promotion to reduce health inequalities.
Health promotion is a process of empowerment which enables communities and individuals to
strengthen control over the determinants of health in order to achieve their fullest potential. (WHO
2008) 1The rationale for health promotion derives from the opportunity to prevent ill health and
reduce inequalities through the promotion of health and healthy living. It incorporates a broad
range of interventions, measures, approaches and activities to enhance the health of populations,
individuals and the communities in which they live. Earle (2007) 2 intimated that anyone
concerned with trying to facilitate change or influence and improve health needs to recognise what
people mean when they talk about health. He proposes that understanding why people behave in a
certain way when it comes to their health and lifestyle choices can ultimately influence the way in
which health promotion interventions are coordinated, designed, communicated and implemented
by the health professionals as they work towards health improvement. Tones and Green 3(2004)
agree that a definition of health can provide a firm premise for practice in promoting health and has
implications for theory, practice policy and promotion of public health. The World Health
Organisation (1986) 4 defines health as

The Rocking Horse Winner By D. H. Lawrence
In The Rocking Horse Winner, D. H. Lawrence divulges into the exploration of how greed and
social status can affect individuals and to those who are significant to them. A social statue to an
individual signifies their interpretation of where they belong in society. It may vary between
politics, influence on the community, wealth, and even power. If looked from a broad
perspective, what they all have in common is the greed to have more, similar to the mother who
supposedly married for love. Greed can be both positive and negative, but it all depends on its
usage whether its for the benefit of everyone or just for themselves.
The narrative begins off with a background on the mother who supposedly had everything a woman
could have in the early 1900 s. She had started with all [of] the advantages, a beautiful appearance, a
handsome husband, three children, a pleasant house with a garden and servants, almost making this
family feel superior above everyone else (150). Everyone had praised the mother saying how she
adores her children, when in reality both the mother and children knew that was not true. The
children looked at the mother with distaste, almost as if they were finding faults with her
personality (150). By creating an atmosphere of tension between the family members, Lawrence s
tone towards the mother creates a sense of foreshadowing that will involve herself and the
children. The children did not like their own mother for it was as if they knew this would

Book Report On Eric Ross
Today I was finally granted a day off from work. The first place I knew I would head, after
sleeping in, would be to the coffee house down on 1st Avenue. The leaves were just starting to fall
outside. Soon winter would be here.
The smell of fresh brewed coffee invaded my nose as I stepped inside the door. I walked up to the
counter and viewed the numerous amount of tasty treats they had on display today. I ordered a
double chocolate muffin with a caramel latte and then sat down on my most loved couch with my
sketchbook and pencils.

How could I be so oblivious? The signs were all there, and I was so blind to them. I overwhelmed
with the feeling of being used and manipulated. He was the man of my dreams till now.
A tear trickled down my cheek as I read the article on some of his history. It wasn t a tear of
complete sadness. This tear was a mixture of anger, sorrow and desperation.
Little did I know, he had been married for three years to the woman who gave birth to his child 12
years prior.
After more digging, I came across an article about his wife. A year after they got married, they
found her dead in the bathroom of his million dollar mansion. She had committed suicide by slitting
her veins open on her wrists. She had left a note expressing her feelings about him straying the path
from their marriage.
So he isn t cheating now, but he has before. Why is it such a big deal now that he can t introduce
me to his family? Maybe even just his daughter?
It was time for Eric and I to have a chat about what was going on between us. So I decided that the
next day I would pay him a visit.

Betrayal In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Revenge Can be Bitter In the book The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas there are
many acts of betrayal against one another. Fernand is quick to betray people for his own gain;
especially Edmond, which led to a harsh grudge against him. Fernand s act of betrayal was the
harshest against Edmond. From the beginning, Fernand envies Edmond s relationship with
MerccГ©dГЁs and betrays him to get her. Fernand kept bugging MercГ©dГЁs from the start
about her love and devotion for Edmond, trying to dig out a false answer (Dumas 12). Edmond
calls Fernand an enemy at first, not hesitant to strike him down until MercГ©dГЁs explained
who he was (Dumas 13). Fernand said, How can I get rid of him! What can I do? What can I do
(Dumas 13)? Fernand is very jealous of Edmond s relationship with MercГ©dГЁs, and Fernand s
act of betrayal is the worst of all the acts of betrayal. He is not afraid to step on people to push

Fernand lies to many people of his status, not yet fooling the Count, who proceeded to call him

arch of the gate, a shot rang out and dark smoke floated out through one of the bedroom
windows, which had been shattered by the force of the explosion (Dumas 394 395). When
Edmond calls out Fernand, he doesn t just tell him who he is, but he also calls him out, stating
how he wasn t who he was supposed to be. The Count jabs at Fernand, saying how he is supposed
to be a soldier, bound by the law, who exhibits honor, trust and loyalty. The Count knows that he

The Visual And Performance Arts Of Europe
Welcome, to my traveler s guide to the performing and visual arts. In this guide, you will explore
first hand, the visual and performance arts of Europe.
First, we will look at performance arts of Europe which, date back to early 534 B.C. when
Thespis won the first public contest for tragic poets in Greece. The term thespian derives from
Thespis s name. In addition, Thespis also introduced performance masks, which would soon
become a staple of Greek and Roman Theater.
Let s fast forward quite a ways, to 1576, where the first commercial theater is opened in London,
England, becoming the first Elizabeth playhouse in the world. Many performance pieces were

Visual art, has also been a prominent factor in European culture and society. Visual art began in
Europe during Prehistoric times, somewhere around 30 to 20000 BCE, this art was located in a
cave in Spain and is known as the El Castillo Cave Art , which is so far, the oldest known cave
paintings in the world. Going further in time, European artwork is emboldened by many great
painters and architects such as Leonardo DaVinci and Michelangelo; whom were famous for some
of the greatest canvas and architectural paintings known in the world today. Most of these paintings
from these artist, can be found in our next location, The Louvre, in Paris, France.
The Louvre, was built in 1190, as a fortress to the Empire of France. The LeMusee du Louvre, is

as a fortress, to serve as a royal palace. Its expansion continued over the years, covering a total
area of now 652, 300 square feet, much more than its original square footage of less than 600,000.

Comparing Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress and Robert Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make
Much of Time
Ever since the beginning of time, love has played an enormous role among humans. Everyone feels
a need to love and to be loved. Some attempt to fill this yearning with activities and possessions that
will not satisfy with activities in which they should not participate and possessions they should not
own. In Andrew Marvell s poem, To His Coy Mistress, the speaker encounters an emotion some
would call love but fits better under the designation of lust for a woman. In contrast, the speaker of
Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, urges virgins to marry, to make a
lasting commitment in which love plays a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the lustful lover of Marvell s poem also bases his love on physical beauty, the speaker in
Herrick s poem neither condones nor condemns this societal standard, but simply acknowledges
its existence. Because he realizes beauty plays a huge role in society s standards for marriage, he
urges the virgins he addresses to go marry (14). He explains that they may for ever tarry if they do
not marry when youth and blood are warmer and they are in their prime (16,10,15). After all, who
wants to marry some gnarly old woman?
The speaker in Herrick s poem makes a reasonable request, urging virgins to marry. On the
contrary, the infatuated boyfriend in Marvell s poem makes an unreasonable request, even for
today. In essence, the speaker of Marvell s poem asks his girlfriend to lie with him. Even if God
deemed fornication an acceptable practice, the speaker shows no true love for his girlfriend. The
Bible explains, Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not
arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into
account a wrong suffered (1 Corinthians 13:4 5). The speaker shows absolutely no patience and
looks out only for himself, clearly indicating he has no love, as 1 Corinthians describes it. Jesus

Relationship Between Mass And Acceleration

In the world of force, when Physicists are talking about apply forces, the relationship between mass
and acceleration has been attractive for long. Although Sir Isaac Newton has already solved this
problem centuries ago, it is still crucial to perform an experiment to prove this relationship to

century. By the eighteenth century, the European method of self governing independent states
was established greatly in the idea of self interest. Since international connections were based on
deliberation of power, the eighteenth century concept of a balance of power was grounded on
how to counterbalance the power of one state by another one to stop anyone s power from
controlling over the others. However, this balance of power did not indicate a wish for peace.
Huge armies were created to protect a state s security were sometimes even used for offensive
motives as well. 12. Who were Austria s alliance and enemies during the War of Austrian
Succession?

Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics
As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the
same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of
human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity
(Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain
extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most
importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed
foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. This essay aims to discuss
how ideological biases within the Police and to a certain extent the... Show more content on

These particular areas tend to be inner city, with a high population of ethnic minorities, poverty and
crime (Lynn and Elliot, 2000) . Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become
less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of
people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal
groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun
crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics
can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular
group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a
cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases
levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels
the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair.
Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of
deviance. This was evident in Britain during the late 20th century where Black people were seen as
deviant and Asians were seen as law abiding victims. Their

Tulipmania
What was Tulipmania? Tulipmania was the craze trade of tulip bulbs in Holland. The selling and
trading of tulips went on until 1637 when it took a sudden downhill. (Goldgar) Back then they
would sell tulip bulbs for more than the price of their house. This is a perfect example of the
many risks you take that can lead to a financial crash ( A story of tulips and bitcoin : When tulips
cost as much ... ). The main place for trading tulips was the Menniste Bryloft, owned by Jan
Theunisz at the time. The Mennist Bryloft was a tavern in Amsterdam, Holland. Lots of visitors and
tourists would come to this tavern just to see the different artwork, water features, and to trade tulip
bulbs. People with similar interests to tulip trading would also meet here. The people that would
meet here were often apart of a drama or poetic group(Goldgar). The tulip was first found in
Europe in the late 16th century(Price). There are lots of different types of tulips that they would
trade. The tulips contained a virus that changed the appearance of the tulip(Beattie). There are red
and yellow striped tulips and purple and white striped tulips called switsers(Goldgar). There are

thing(Price). This ended in one of the biggest economic crashes. Causing everybody to go

Response To The Lark
I have never been to the place in this passage, yet I feel the heartbreak of leaving it. Music allows
me to go to places I ve never been. When I hear a song, I always see a video or a picture in my
mind. They form like a message directly from the songwriter. People have asked me if I have
synesthesia, but that s not quite accurate. I don t actually see these images in front of me. They just
appear in my head without any effort.
For a long time, I have tried writing down what I see. I try to capture the setting, the characters,

Theme Of Feminism In Oedipus And Medea
Feminism during the time of Oedipus and Medea centered on women actually trying to make
their voice known in the world. Today, the battle of the sexes continue; however, women have
already established their importance on society and focus fighting more for equality with men.
According to Loren Edelson s article The Trope of Transformation in Medea: A Noh Cycle, she
describes the difference between culture feminist and materialist feminism. The first focuses on
the women s roles in society while the other focuses on woman as a class oppressed by material
conditions and social relation (Edelson 59). Furthermore the feminism described in these tragedies
are expressed through their characteristics and how often they take part in the stories. In the time
of these tragedies, women were expected to be overruled by men with little or no authority over
the situations they faced in their life. Both of the main women in each of these stories live in a time
where the husbands are the ruler of the household, but these two women don t let them have all the
power. Both Oedipusthe King by Sophoclesand Medea by Euripideshighlight feminism, through the
women s characteristics, their drive, and their actions.
In Oedipus the King the main female character is Jocasta who is both Oedipus wife and mother.
Jocasta s character is considered a very distinct woman of her time, through the way she spoke her

sample groups. The first experiment will use distractors visually, the second with auditory, and
the third using language. For group one a sample size of forty eight was chosen. This group was

capabilities. The second group was also made up of forty eight individuals. This groups were
made up of people that had English as their primary language, had normal to correct to normal

Developing Sustainable Fiscal Policies And Implementing A...
A budget can be described as an allocation mechanism that the Government uses to distribute a
nation s resources amongst different economic sectors that serve or are existent within a
country. The major source of Government resources distributed is taxes paid by resident or
citizens of a given country. A budget is one tool that has a lot of political and economic
significance since it controls a Government s expenditures and it lays out a path that the economy
will follow or at least try to follow in a given year. The Government, being the main board
governing or running a country has a major role of developing sustainable fiscal policies and
ensuring or try to achieve economic growth and it is through budgeting that these goals can be
successful achieved. A budget translate a Government s policies, political commitments, and goals
into decisions on how much revenue to raise, how it plans to raise the revenue, and how to use
these funds to meet the country s competing needs and these may include improving the country s
security, alleviating poverty, improving health care among other things. Budgeting is of great
economic and political significance because a Government s budget directly or indirectly affects
the lives of every citizen or resident. Considering the fact that it is the people that have the power
to decide the political life of the political party running the country, the Government would want to
prepare a budget that directly deals with the issues that are of

Youth Baseball Narrative Essay
I first started playing youth baseball back in 2008. I had a passion for it since I was a very young
boy. I used to sit at home on my PlayStation 2 playing MLB the show. My baseball idols are Derek
Jeter, David Ortiz, Jackie Robinson, Sammy Sosa, and Alfonso Soriano. I used to play catch all
the time with my cousin Tristan. As we got older I was able to join a baseballteam with Tristan, and
we made it onto the same team. The team was called Optic. What made Optic the best was our
pitching, to be honest my pitching. We were the best team in our league; we only ever lost to one
team the Bulldogs. They were the undefeated team in our league.
Down goes the pitch, moving at lighting speed! STRIKE! As the batter steps up for his second
plate appearance, he has three balls and two strikes. Men are on second and third base with the
score four to five Optic. While it is the away team who leads the game, it is my very last ... Show

baseball fields and helped each other improve all the time. Most of our days were spent outside
throwing the baseball fast back and forth to each other. I was not able to play my whole life like
I really wanted to. I could not because my grandparents were going through a divorce and I was
not able to play baseball on a team since my last season in 2014. I throw the ball around every

Zeus and Maia: Zeus was romantically involved w. a nymph named Maia and they made love in a
cave and Maia gave birth to Hermes (Mercury) who arrived at dawn. During the afternoon, he was

Hermes Invents the Lyre: Hermes departed from the cave and ventured off. He discovered a

ox s hide, reeds, and strings of sheep gut to invent the first seven stringed lyre.
Quickly tuned the instrument and was playing songs to honor Zeus and Maia.

Hermes claimed that he couldn t possibly have stolen them since he was a newborn. Apollo refused
to believe him. Apollo brought Hermes to the top of MT. Olympus, so Zeus could resolve the issue
for them.
Zeus Decides the Case: Apollo told his side of the story first and explained the truth: how Hermes
stole his cattle. Hermes, however, continued to lie and swore on oath that he was not guilty of
committing the crimes. Zeus knew that Hermes was lying and just laughed and commanded him to
bring Apollo to his cattle.
The Reconciliation between Hermes and Apollo: Hermes brought Apollo to his cattle, and they
made peace. Hermes began to play his lyre, which captivated Apollo. Apollo cried that it was worth

Apollo promised Hermes that he would be the messenger to the gods and that him and Maia
would have fame amongst the gods. Hermes decided to give the lyre to Apollo and deemed that he
would be a master of music. In exchange, Apollo granted Hermes a whip and put him in charge of
the cattle. They went back to Olympus and Zeus bonded them as

Writing In The Age Of Distraction Cory Doctorow Summary
The article Writing in the Age of Distraction by Cory Doctorow is an article talking about how the
Internet is often misconceived as a place where procrastination comes alive. In said article,
Doctorow makes a detailed list on how he manages to avoid procrastination and get work done,
while still using the Internet. The first step he lists is setting a goal for yourself and sticking with
it. Choose a number of words or number of pages you want to type for that day and aim for it.
Do not stop before you reach that goal. Similarly, Doctorow says, once you do reach that goal,
stop for the day. Stop in the middle of your sentence even, so that the next time you sit down to
work, you know where to start from. In his exact words, Doctorow states:
When you hit your daily word goal, stop. Stop even if you re in the middle of a sentence.
Especially if you re in the middle of a sentence. That way, when you sit down at the keyboard the
next day, your first five or ten words are already ordained, so that you get a little push before you
begin your work. (Doctorow) He then says that when you are actually sitting down to work, you
need to stop researching. One of the easiest ways to get sidetracked while working is by getting
distracted by information that isn t important for your assignment, but seem relevant at the time.
Set aside specific time for research so you don t end up procrastinating when you should be
working. Another tip Doctorow gives is to remember not to get distracted using your word
processor. Doing things like playing with the font or debating over which color your words
should be in will only kill valuable time. Turning off your cell phone and ignoring social media
notifications is also a great way of making sure you don t end up wasting your own time.
I choose to write about Doctorow s article because I often find myself getting distracted both
before and during the process of writing a paper. Much like Doctorow, I d been instructed by
several high school teachers to stay away from the Internet while writing so I didn t divert my
attention away from the assignment I was supposed to be working on. During the first three years
of high school, I followed this advice almost religiously, and even went so far

Little Miss Sunshine Themes
Little Miss Sunshine Movie Analysis
1. The makers of Little Miss Sunshine create meaning through utilizing music and close up camera
shots. The film makers carefully choose what music to play during each scene, matching the type
of music to the emotions the characters are feeling. For example, the music that plays in the
introduction with Olive Hoover watching the Miss America Pageant sounds hopeful. This helps
viewers understand her dream to become a beauty queen. The music played in the background as
Frank faces the person who influences him to commit suicide gives off a feeling of loneliness and
depression.
The film makers use of close up shots come in key when showing direct emotions a character is
feeling. For example, the close up shots of Richard Hoover during the Little Miss Sunshine
Pageant contribute to the viewer s understanding of the overall theme of the movie. We can see
shock ridden over Richard s face as each girl participating in the competition enters the stage. This
emphasizes his realization of the unreal expectations and pressures on the girls to perform in a
certain way, and we understand that influences his decision to try to get Olive to withdraw from the
pageant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two kinds of people in the world, Olive s father Richard Hoover claims, winners and
losers. Olive s father s expectation for everyone to be a winner and not a loser relates to the
pressure in American society for everyone to be perfect. In reality, you have to be able to accept
your imperfections. For example, Olive, slightly chubby and with a mismatched sense of style,
aspires to become a beauty queen. The message that the film makers reveal is that individuality is
more important than conforming to societies ideas of what makes a winner and what does

Compare And Contrast Monet And Monet
Monet Oscar Claude Monet was a famous French painter who was one of the main artists of the
Impressionism movement. Monet was an artist who was obsessed with light. The Royal
Academy of arts didn t accept his work but this was never a setback for him. He wanted to
capture the change in light in every moment; hence this is the reason why he chose to paint
different paintings of the same scenes. He used several canvases simultaneously so that he could

Paper On Vitiligo
According to, Le Poole and Van den Wijngaard, vitiligo is a dermatological disorder characterized
by destruction of melanocytes and loss of pigmentation. Generalized vitiligo or non segmental
vitiligo (NSV) is characterized by white patches, often symmetrical, that usually increase in size
with time, corresponding to a substantial loss of functioning epidermal and in some cases hair
follicle melanocytes. According to a study done in 1983 by Naughton, Eisinger, and Bystryn, it
affects approximately 500,000 persons in the United States. There aren t many treatment options at
the moment but it has recently come to light that the use of narrow band ultraviolet (UV) B therapy
has had successful results, as well as the use of topical corticosteroids.... Show more content on

Loss of the functionality of melanocytes is responsible for vitiligo but the real cause of vitiligo is
unknown. However, some conditions including autoimmune, genetic, neural, viral infections and
oxidative stress could have an important role in the onset of vitiligo. There are three hypotheses
for its pathogenesis including biochemical cytotoxic, neural, and autoimmune: the biochemical
/cytotoxic hypothesis emphasizes that vitiligo occurs when the melanocyte is killed by cytotoxic
precursors to melanin synthesis; the neural hypothesis is based on nerve injury development
with affected sites that leads to segmental vitiligo with neurons that interact with melanocytes
and release melano cytotoxic substrates; the autoimmune hypothesis is based on genetic data
which are more associated to autoimmune diseases (E. Ghafourian, S. Ghafourian, N.
sadeghifard, R. Mohebi, Y. Shokooittni. S. Nezamoleslam and R.A. Hamat). The onset of
vitiligo is mainly seen in children, although, in rare cases it can be seen in adults. It is usually
acquired before the age of 20 and will continue to intensify for many people. According to, Njoo,
Bos, and Westerhof, a Dutch study found that among 1061 patients with vitiligo 25% of the
patients noted the onset of vitiligo before the age of 10 years, 50% before thee age of 20, and
95% before the age of 40. Of the total population of patients with vitiligo, between 23% and 26%
have been reported to be children younger than 12 years. Research and awareness of the disease
has become more prevalent in the last few years due to new research technologies and promotion in
the media by model Winnie Harlow, but there are still many mysteries concerning the onset,
symptoms, and treatment of

The Positive Consequences Of Youth In Football
Imagine your son dashing into the kitchen as your eyes dart to meet his.His eyes evidently filled
with joy as a sincere smile begins to sneak onto his face. The excessive amount of words begin to
spill from his lips as he hands you a paper that reads Youth Football . Although some might altercate
the negatives associated with our youth participating in football such as injuries and behavioral
changes, studies show that children who participate in football benefit in their social lives. The
positive correlation between sports and my son s recreation will assemble a strong mindset, enforce
discipline,as well as building camaraderie.
According to the article, What Life Lesson Can Be Learned From Playing Football? The author
Jobe Lewis quotes, A player must endure scrutiny and constant evaluation . In other words, players
are exposed to direct helpful feedback from their peers and coaches to improve their performance
both on and off the field (Jobe Lewis). In addition the author also mentioned, Constant reevaluations
fosters growth and accountability (Jobe Lewis). By exposing young children to grasp the concept
of responsibility at such a young age, this will allow a child to acknowledge feedback which will
positively affect them in adulthood. Our children of today will become stronger mindset individuals
because of the constant exposure to feedback. Not only will this help our children on the field, but

If you read Wall Street s reports, they don t talk of soya bean as originating in China. They don t

Roundup Ready Soybeans a crop system that is no tastier, no healthier, and no cheaper than the
way Soybeans have been grown in the past?
Roundup Ready Soybeans
Monsanto s Roundup Ready Soybean (RRS) is a genetically engineered variety of soybeans,
which contains gene sequences from a cauliflower mosaic virus (CMV), a petunia, and a
bacterium (Agrobacterium sp.) (Greenpeace, 1997). The two bacterial genes, in short, provide
for resistance against Roundup, resulting in a crop of soybeans that can be sprayed with
Roundup to protect it from weeds, while not injuring it. In 1996, U.S. farmers harvested about
1.2 million acres of Roundup Ready Soybeans, and although this crop represented only about 2
percent of U.S. soybeans, it will be mixed with conventional soybeans unlabeled to become part of
as much as 60 percent of all processed foods that contain some soy based ingredient (Bruno, 1997).
In the United States, most consumers are likely to have already ingested small amounts of
transgenic soy in such common food as margarine, chocolate, baby food, and

  • 2. Paper Towns The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There are 305 pages in the book. A review this book got on it was The following is quite a lot of dribble that I felt the need to get off my chest... . I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it has some words that are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those words. The most important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin Jacobsen. Margo is quite a dare devil, she challenges herself A LOT. Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do things and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo needed: Vaseline, six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on her friends and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her friends knew all along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if Margo s friends have told her sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book was made into a movie, I would have to compare 1 thing of the movie and book. Sea World In The Book In the book it talks about how it s the ONLY theme park Margo has ... • 3. John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and no two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s assumptioncrumbles. All photographscommunicate one absolute truth. Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective within a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth, however, is beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph becomes ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and weather captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph. Berger does not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes landscapes because they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or weather of a landscape, but the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to apply meaning to landscapes is that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and psychology to create a mythical truth, or a personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal and singular, thus escaping Berger s imagination. If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph? Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph; thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed Berger any room for a personal reading. • 4. Legal Drinking Age Essay For many of the generations living today, the legal drinking age has always been set at twenty one. In the 1980 s, it rose from eighteen to twenty one in an attempt to reduce the amount of underage drunk driving accidents. The number of traffic fatalities has significantly declined over the past few decades. However, many would argue that the law has spawned many new problems as well, such as an increase in alcohol poisoning deaths and binge drinking. As previously stated, the primary reason for adjustment to the legal drinking age was to address the preposterous number of drunk driving accidents. The United States has experienced a decline in all age groups over the last 25 years and for that, the law has been a success. Although these statistics are encouraging, one must also wonder if more has contributed to this decline than the law itself. 1984 was a completely different time period. Since then, airbags have become a mandatory component of every car, and laws requiring that a seat belt must be worn are enforced in most states, reducing the impact if one was to ever be involved in a crash. In addition to the features inside of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the United States has seen improvements since the introduction of the risen legal age, it is impossible to know for certain whether the decline in alcohol related traffic fatalities was seen because of the change in legal age or not until both sides of the argument are tested and proved. However, a higher legal age has not reduced drinking, but has driven it underground, establishing a new problem for the country to consider instead. The problems we are facing today are vastly different than those of 1984. Would a Body Count Change Your Mind? , since September 11, 2001 more American women were killed by an intimate partner than all of the victims of 9/11 and all of the American military fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan combined (Gidfar, 2012). • 7. The English Bildungsroman Essay The English Bildungsroman The novel has a strong tradition in English literature. In Great Britain, it can trace its roots back to Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe in 1719 (Kroll 23). Since then, the British novel has grown in popularity. It was especially popular in Victorian England. The type of novel that was particularly popular in Victorian England was the novel of youth. Many authors of the time were producing works focused on the journey from childhood to adulthood: Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre, George Eliot wrote The Mill on the Floss, and Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield and Great Expectations. Similarly, the Bildungsroman is characterized by the growth, education, and development of a character both in the world and ultimately within himself. The Bildungsroman is subcategorized into very specific types of the genre, most often found in German literature. There is the Entwicklungsroman, which can be defined as a chronicle of a young man s general growth rather than his specific quest for self culture (Buckley 13). In other words, a story recounting a man s life rather than focusing on the inner changes that contribute to his maturity. Another form within German literature is the Erziehungsroman; this form is primarily concerned with the protagonist s actual educational process (Buckley 13). Again, the concern is not the overall development of the main character, but a specific aspect of that character s life. Finally, there is the Kunstlerroman. The root Kunstler translates as artist in English. Therefore, this is the development of the artist from childhood until his artistic maturity, focusing on the man as artist rather than the man in general. Dickens David Copperfield and James Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are both examples of English Kunstlerroman, as the protagonists of both books are writers (Buckley 13). Stamp Paid confronted the wickedness of having a fellow black live in a empty lonesome cellar, another example of the pain the community inflicts upon itself. They not only alienate Sethe and her family, but Paul D for having relations with them. The community was longing for Sethe to come on difficult times (155 Hinson), and Paul D was only another target for the community s anger. Hajer Ayadi theorizes here that instead of taking care of a fellow ex slave Paul D, the community once again fails to perform its role (Ayadi, 265). Slavery destroyed African American communities, specifically Bluestone, and the damage is evident when Sethe takes Beloved s life. The circumstances leading to the event is most important however. When Sethe arrived at Bluestone all mashed up and split open carrying newborn Beloved, Stamp Paid sets out to collect to bucket fulls of blackberries (Morrison, 159). Sethe matches the buckets of fruit with chickens, fish, turkeys, and a list of other items. The community quickly grows malice towards Baby Suggs grand display of wealth. Too much, they thought. Where does she get it all...It made them furious (Morrison, 161). The community was envious of how well Baby Suggs was doing. • 11. Health Promotion Is A Process Of Empowerment The main purpose of this essay is to provide a critical analysis of....Discussion will centre round the importance of utilising health promotion to reduce health inequalities. Health promotion is a process of empowerment which enables communities and individuals to strengthen control over the determinants of health in order to achieve their fullest potential. (WHO 2008) 1The rationale for health promotion derives from the opportunity to prevent ill health and reduce inequalities through the promotion of health and healthy living. It incorporates a broad range of interventions, measures, approaches and activities to enhance the health of populations, individuals and the communities in which they live. Earle (2007) 2 intimated that anyone concerned with trying to facilitate change or influence and improve health needs to recognise what people mean when they talk about health. He proposes that understanding why people behave in a certain way when it comes to their health and lifestyle choices can ultimately influence the way in which health promotion interventions are coordinated, designed, communicated and implemented by the health professionals as they work towards health improvement. Tones and Green 3(2004) agree that a definition of health can provide a firm premise for practice in promoting health and has implications for theory, practice policy and promotion of public health. The World Health Organisation (1986) 4 defines health as A state of complete physical, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Rocking Horse Winner By D. H. Lawrence In The Rocking Horse Winner, D. H. Lawrence divulges into the exploration of how greed and social status can affect individuals and to those who are significant to them. A social statue to an individual signifies their interpretation of where they belong in society. It may vary between politics, influence on the community, wealth, and even power. If looked from a broad perspective, what they all have in common is the greed to have more, similar to the mother who supposedly married for love. Greed can be both positive and negative, but it all depends on its usage whether its for the benefit of everyone or just for themselves. The narrative begins off with a background on the mother who supposedly had everything a woman could have in the early 1900 s. She had started with all [of] the advantages, a beautiful appearance, a handsome husband, three children, a pleasant house with a garden and servants, almost making this family feel superior above everyone else (150). Everyone had praised the mother saying how she adores her children, when in reality both the mother and children knew that was not true. The children looked at the mother with distaste, almost as if they were finding faults with her personality (150). By creating an atmosphere of tension between the family members, Lawrence s tone towards the mother creates a sense of foreshadowing that will involve herself and the children. The children did not like their own mother for it was as if they knew this would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fernand is quick to betray people for his own gain; especially Edmond, which led to a harsh grudge against him. Fernand s act of betrayal was the harshest against Edmond. From the beginning, Fernand envies Edmond s relationship with MerccГ©dГЁs and betrays him to get her. Everyone feels a need to love and to be loved. Some attempt to fill this yearning with activities and possessions that will not satisfy with activities in which they should not participate and possessions they should not own. In Andrew Marvell s poem, To His Coy Mistress, the speaker encounters an emotion some would call love but fits better under the designation of lust for a woman. He explains that they may for ever tarry if they do not marry when youth and blood are warmer and they are in their prime (16,10,15). After all, who wants to marry some gnarly old woman? By the eighteenth century, the European method of self governing independent states was established greatly in the idea of self interest. • 22. Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity (Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair. Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of deviance. I have always been told to figure out what you like to do and then make a career out of it. Eight years ago, armed with this bit of philosophy, I set out to find out what I liked to do. Before entering college I realized that my interests lay in business. In college, my courses in business were the ones looked forward to the most, and my business projects and presentations were the most challenging and rewarding of all my undergraduate course work. I would love to have the chance to participate in the Chazen Institute s exchange program with a partner school, especially the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Not only would I learn a lot by participating in this program, but I am also confident that I could teach my fellow students the things that I have learned in my previous Chinese studies. Also, given the fact that I want to one day pursue a life of entrepreneurship, I am interested in Columbia s emphasis on this area. • 33. Writing In The Age Of Distraction Cory Doctorow Summary The article Writing in the Age of Distraction by Cory Doctorow is an article talking about how the Internet is often misconceived as a place where procrastination comes alive. In said article, Doctorow makes a detailed list on how he manages to avoid procrastination and get work done, while still using the Internet. The first step he lists is setting a goal for yourself and sticking with it. Choose a number of words or number of pages you want to type for that day and aim for it. Do not stop before you reach that goal. Similarly, Doctorow says, once you do reach that goal, stop for the day. Stop in the middle of your sentence even, so that the next time you sit down to work, you know where to start from. In his exact words, Doctorow states: When you hit your daily word goal, stop. Stop even if you re in the middle of a sentence. Especially if you re in the middle of a sentence. That way, when you sit down at the keyboard the next day, your first five or ten words are already ordained, so that you get a little push before you begin your work. (Doctorow) He then says that when you are actually sitting down to work, you need to stop researching. One of the easiest ways to get sidetracked while working is by getting distracted by information that isn t important for your assignment, but seem relevant at the time. Set aside specific time for research so you don t end up procrastinating when you should be working. Another tip Doctorow gives is to remember not to get distracted using your word processor. Doing things like playing with the font or debating over which color your words should be in will only kill valuable time. Turning off your cell phone and ignoring social media notifications is also a great way of making sure you don t end up wasting your own time. I choose to write about Doctorow s article because I often find myself getting distracted both before and during the process of writing a paper. Much like Doctorow, I d been instructed by several high school teachers to stay away from the Internet while writing so I didn t divert my attention away from the assignment I was supposed to be working on. During the first three years of high school, I followed this advice almost religiously, and even went so far ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Little Miss Sunshine Themes Little Miss Sunshine Movie Analysis 1. The makers of Little Miss Sunshine create meaning through utilizing music and close up camera shots. The film makers carefully choose what music to play during each scene, matching the type of music to the emotions the characters are feeling. For example, the music that plays in the introduction with Olive Hoover watching the Miss America Pageant sounds hopeful. This helps viewers understand her dream to become a beauty queen. The music played in the background as Frank faces the person who influences him to commit suicide gives off a feeling of loneliness and depression. The film makers use of close up shots come in key when showing direct emotions a character is feeling. For example, the close up shots of Richard Hoover during the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant contribute to the viewer s understanding of the overall theme of the movie. We can see shock ridden over Richard s face as each girl participating in the competition enters the stage. This emphasizes his realization of the unreal expectations and pressures on the girls to perform in a certain way, and we understand that influences his decision to try to get Olive to withdraw from the pageant. ... Generalized vitiligo or non segmental vitiligo (NSV) is characterized by white patches, often symmetrical, that usually increase in size with time, corresponding to a substantial loss of functioning epidermal and in some cases hair follicle melanocytes. According to a study done in 1983 by Naughton, Eisinger, and Bystryn, it affects approximately 500,000 persons in the United States. There aren t many treatment options at the moment but it has recently come to light that the use of narrow band ultraviolet (UV) B therapy has had successful results, as well as the use of topical corticosteroids.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Loss of the functionality of melanocytes is responsible for vitiligo but the real cause of vitiligo is unknown. However, some conditions including autoimmune, genetic, neural, viral infections and oxidative stress could have an important role in the onset of vitiligo. There are three hypotheses for its pathogenesis including biochemical cytotoxic, neural, and autoimmune: the biochemical /cytotoxic hypothesis emphasizes that vitiligo occurs when the melanocyte is killed by cytotoxic precursors to melanin synthesis; the neural hypothesis is based on nerve injury development with affected sites that leads to segmental vitiligo with neurons that interact with melanocytes and release melano cytotoxic substrates; the autoimmune hypothesis is based on genetic data which are more associated to autoimmune diseases (E. Ghafourian, S. Ghafourian, N. sadeghifard, R. Mohebi, Y. Shokooittni. S. Nezamoleslam and R.A. Hamat). The onset of vitiligo is mainly seen in children, although, in rare cases it can be seen in adults. It is usually acquired before the age of 20 and will continue to intensify for many people.
