Urbanization is the process whereby there is an increase in the number of people living in urban areas like cities, towns, and suburbs. It can be caused by push factors from rural areas like natural disasters, drought, hunger, war, or lack of opportunities, or pull factors to urban centers like increased job opportunities, access to healthcare, education, and better infrastructure. As more people move to cities, the world population is becoming increasingly urban with projections that over 60% will live in urban areas by 2030. While urbanization has benefits like increased globalization, industrialization, and access to opportunities, it also has negative consequences such as unemployment, overcrowding, lack of adequate housing and infrastructure, and increased poverty.
