2. Duration and Entry
Requirements
• The duration of this course (Film Photography and Media BA)
ranges from 3 to 4 years. There is an option to either study
abroad for a year or spend a year working in industry. If I were
to apply to this course at this university, I would like to take a
year working in industry, as this would develop my skills and
aid me in getting a future career after university.
• The entry requirements for this course are stated as three
distinctions (DDD). I believe that once finishing my second-year
project I will have the minimum entry requirement grades to
pursue this course.
3. Course Modules
• On the Leeds University website, the course content is broken
down into the three main years of study. In the first year, it is
said that the foundation of the course will be laid, and that we
will develop academic and practical based skills. We will be
introduced to screenwriting, camera, editing and photographic
practices. We will also put these into context and build critical
skills whilst looking at the history and theory of film. In the
second year it is stated that we will expand and enhance our
skills, whilst working on a short film project and taking further
core modules in photography and cinema. We will be allowed to
specialise in topics that suit our interests and career plans. In the
final year, we will have the choice to pick a module that we want
to do and take an optional four-week work placement.
4. Career Opportunities, Cost
and Travel
• As for career opportunities this course allows me to develop my
creative and technical skills across ‘three different yet related
disciplines’. It is said that graduates have been recruited by a variety
of prestigious companies in different sectors of the industry.
• The cost and travel for this course are one of the final things to
mention. The cost for this course is £9250 a year. As I will be
moving away from home, and my household income as quite low I
have worked out that I should receive the maximum amount of
financial help. As for travel, the university is 2 to 3 hours away from
where I live, but I will be moving to Leeds if I get a place on this
course. From there, the university is between 15-30 minutes away
from most of the accommodations.
