This document discusses the use of artificial and natural light in photography. It describes an image taken at night that is lit entirely by artificial light from buildings and streetlights, with some additional lighting from the camera flash. A second photograph taken at sunset makes use of natural light, shadows, and highlights on buildings closest to the setting sun to draw attention.

1. Lighting
Artificial Light Natural Light
This image was taken in the dark, therefore all of what
we can see is because of artificial light. The mid-ground
of the image is lit by the buildings, I composed this to
have an interesting framed style within the photograph.
The foreground of the image is lit in majority by street
lights but slightly amplified by the camera flash, which
brings out the definition in the objects in front of it.
The photograph above is composed with natural light,
which is a lot of the time more difficult to capture in.
However I feel that in this image I have managed to get
the natural shadows and highlights in the photograph. I
took this photo just as the sun was going down and the
buildings closest to the source definitely captivate the
main sense of attention in this photograph.
