The BFI has commissioned you to provide web-video material for their new online Youtube
channel to promote their new ‘History of Film Technology’ exhibition, which will also be available
to the visitors
• Task 1a: The history of editing from its invention to the present day.
• Task 1b: A guide to the development of video editing technology
• Task 2: A guide to video editing techniques and styles

• Edit a Video Guide that illustrates a clear and concise potted history of technological
development of editing with significant films – processes ie pre-edit Lumieres, in-camera

individual annotations/titles to explain each one: 180 dg rule, the cut, match on action, eye-

frames, split screens, using terminology
• Worksheet Script discussing how/why Continuity or Alternative techniques are used in
(adding in examples of found/created editing sequences from your portfolio eg Ad & Short
Film edit)
• Record and edit the voiceover commentary for the ‘Techniques & Transitions & Terminology
of Editing’
