There are two main types of microphones: dynamic microphones which can withstand high pressure like explosions and condenser microphones which are more sensitive but cannot handle as much pressure and require a separate power source. Different microphones are suited to different purposes, such as handheld microphones for music recording, shotgun microphones for their directionality, and lavalier microphones which can be wired or wireless for dialogue recording. Various accessories help microphones function properly and reduce unwanted sounds, including windshields, pop shields, microphone mounts, and boundary microphones which mount directly to a surface.

Windshields are used for outdoors which helps reduce wind noises. Figures of
8 are large diaphragm microphones. Microphones clips screws onto a
microphoneboom/stand. Shot mount isolates microphones fromvibrations.
Pop shields blocks explosive sounds. On board camera mount. Boundary
microphones mounts a mid-directly to a surfacee.g. for surround sound on a
wall, on a floor which is omni-directional.
