3. Analysis
In the Greg James show there is a good range between talking and music as they start
off with what’s expected to come on the show to playing songs to talking, then playing
songs, then playing the news, then playing more songs. There is a pattern to this, which
you can clearly see. The news is first heard when we are about 10 Mins in but this news
is about celebrities and James gives us the latest of what’s been going on in the social
media world with the celebrities but then also later about 4:30 the news is given again
but with another presenter Chris Smith but the news this time is what been going on
locally around in the UK rather than worldwide and is a bit more serious.
The music played is well balanced out and they do have a lot of different genres
of music that were played going from rap to pop to electronic pop and rnb. The
style of the presenter Is very outgoing as he talks a little bit of French when
saying the name of the song. He is very consistent throughout. James also
presents us with the news from social media and to do with celebrities sticking
with how fun and out there James the presenter is, whereas when it comes to the
real news another presenter is used, using a serious tone to the news.
The different content that is played varies from music, to the news, to talking to people,
to playing clips from other shows that were on before like the breakfast show. Social
media is used within the radio shows especially Twitter when it comes to interacting
to the audience but with celebrities also. This acts as an advert for other shows on the
station as Greg James mentions the breakfast show quiet often saying the hottest
playlist artist that are going to be playing but also karaoke on the breakfast show. This
acts as an ad for the breakfast show as it tells the audience what happens on the show
and mentions things that may get their attention.
The use of jingles is used many often within the stations show. Every time a song has
ended or begun a jingle is used. The same jingle is used when a song is being played or
when a topic is being changed, but when it came to announcing the star listener
another more out there jingle was used. The first celebrity news that is presented is
very out there and said with enthusiasm, the same with when talking to Immy or when
the presenter is talking about the karaoke like I already said before whereas when the
second part of the news comes on another presenter Is used changing the style of the
tone into more serious. The music, karaoke, Swansea playlist, attempting accents is
mainly aimed at the young part of the audience which I would say is late teens to mid-
twenties.
