Unit 10: Preparing for Progression
Entry Requirements and Qualifications Needed.
• GCSE (grade A* to C) in English and maths or equivalent.
• School experience which you will receive by doing the below.
There are two qualification paths into becoming a Secondary School
teacher, The university path and school-led path.
• University path: Attain a BA (Hons) or a Bachelor of Education (Bed)
in particular field you’re interested in and a postgraduate Certificate
Secondary Education (PGCE). Spending around 24 weeks in at least
two schools to learn, observe and gain experience.
• School-led path: Programmes such as School Direct, School-centred
initial teacher training (SCITT) and Teach First. Your training will be
based in schools from the offset where you will learn and observe
from qualified teachers.
Responsibilities:
You'll teach children age 11-18 subject specific lessons.
day-to-day tasks:
• Marking and preparing and creating material for lessons
checking progress
• Moving from class to class
• Retaining Information about students and their progression
• Carrying out admin. registers.
Working Hours:
Main Hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:00pm.
May come in earlier or stay later for Marking and preparation for
lessons, however it can be carried out at home.
Salary:
“Starter: £22,500 to £28,000
Experienced: £35,500 to £43,000
Highly Experienced: £39,000 to £66,750”

/ Performer.
Entry Requirements and Qualifications Needed.
Specific training is not a requirement, however will be used to your
advantage.
An agent will be needed, your agent will put you forward for suited
auditions and castings and will take fee of about 10% to 25% from your
earnings if you get casted.
Responsibilities:
• Meeting with an agent
• Preparing for auditions
• Going to auditions.
• Going to workshops and lessons
• Performing for a live audience or in a studio or 'on location' for film
or television
Working Hours:
There is no set working hours for actors or performers. It all depends
on the work you get or are contracted for, which you will be given your
filming or performance hours for, as well as rehearsals. However you
will spend most of your time seeking new work by going to auditions.
Salary:
There is no set income for actors or performers. It all depends on the
work you get or are contracted for, which you will get paid or a fee for.

Personal Career Aims
My Personal Career Aim:
My personal career aim is to become a secondary school drama teacher in
state school.
Why?
My Drama teacher inspired me to want to become a drama teacher. I went
to a working class school called Bishop Challoner in Shadwell, with what
you could say had very challenging students. I want to give back to
students that come from a similar background as myself and where I grew
up and be able to connect and inspire like my teacher did me.
Courses I Have Applied for.
All of the university courses I am applying for are all in drama, acting,
performance or in that field. The one I am most interested in being
University Of East London's BA (Hons) in Drama, Applied Theatre &
Performance. As well as the University of Greenwich to study Drama BA
(Hons).
Why?
I have applied for Drama courses as they link directly into the career I want
to achieve. Furthermore they are a part of the path and progression into
the requirements of being a teacher. Once I have attained the degree, I
want to progress onto doing my PGCE in Secondary Drama so I am
qualified to become a teacher. The reasoning for UEL’s course being the
one I am most interested in because one of the contents of the course is
Applied theatre. Applied theatre is all about drama in conventional places,
drama as a therapy etc. It was originally and still used to evoke thought,
raise awareness and inform, which I believe will really benefit and facilitate
my becoming of being a teacher as I will be informing and teaching
students as a profession. UEL also offers A PGCE in secondary drama
which was an amazing discovery, with the assumption I love the university
and get the required grade (2.2) I ca go straight onto the course.
University of Greenwich was also an interest of mine because not only was
it local like I wanted, but too set me onto the right path to becoming a
teachers. The content Is more about the history of drama and
performance techniques, which will rally help as it will similar to what I will
be teaching.

Entry Requirements and Qualifications Needed.
University of East London: 112 UCAS points,
A level: must include passes at A2 in at least two subjects
BTEC: Extended Diploma (QCF) or Diploma (QCF)
International Baccalaureate: Diplomas with 24 points including a
minimum of 15 points at Higher Level
Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.
Expected to attend an audition and interview.

University of Greenwich: ”112 UCAS points, which should include at least
96 points from A2 A-levels.
You'll also need GCSEs at grade C or above in English and mathematics.

Irish Highers.”

Two GCSEs in English, language at a grade C and literature at a grade B
GCSE in Drama at a grade A
GCSE in Dance at a grade C
Currently working towards a Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Performing
arts (Acting, Dance and Singing)
Aiming for distinctions which Is 144 UCAS points.
112 UCAS points is Distinction Merit Merit.

  • 1. Job Roles / Careers Unit 10: Preparing for Progression
  • 2. Entry Requirements and Qualifications Needed. • GCSE (grade A* to C) in English and maths or equivalent. • School experience which you will receive by doing the below. There are two qualification paths into becoming a Secondary School teacher, The university path and school-led path. • University path: Attain a BA (Hons) or a Bachelor of Education (Bed) in particular field you’re interested in and a postgraduate Certificate Secondary Education (PGCE). Spending around 24 weeks in at least two schools to learn, observe and gain experience. • School-led path: Programmes such as School Direct, School-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) and Teach First. Your training will be based in schools from the offset where you will learn and observe from qualified teachers. Responsibilities: You'll teach children age 11-18 subject specific lessons. day-to-day tasks: • Marking and preparing and creating material for lessons checking progress • Moving from class to class • Retaining Information about students and their progression • Carrying out admin. registers. Working Hours: Main Hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:00pm. May come in earlier or stay later for Marking and preparation for lessons, however it can be carried out at home. Salary: “Starter: £22,500 to £28,000 Experienced: £35,500 to £43,000 Highly Experienced: £39,000 to £66,750” Vary on factors such as Location.   • 3. Job Roles I Am Interested In: Actor / Performer. Entry Requirements and Qualifications Needed. Specific training is not a requirement, however will be used to your advantage. An agent will be needed, your agent will put you forward for suited auditions and castings and will take fee of about 10% to 25% from your earnings if you get casted. Responsibilities: • Meeting with an agent • Preparing for auditions • Going to auditions. • Going to workshops and lessons • Performing for a live audience or in a studio or 'on location' for film or television Working Hours: There is no set working hours for actors or performers. It all depends on the work you get or are contracted for, which you will be given your filming or performance hours for, as well as rehearsals. However you will spend most of your time seeking new work by going to auditions. Salary: There is no set income for actors or performers.   • 4. Personal Career Aims My Personal Career Aim: My personal career aim is to become a secondary school drama teacher in state school. Why? My Drama teacher inspired me to want to become a drama teacher. I went to a working class school called Bishop Challoner in Shadwell, with what you could say had very challenging students. I want to give back to students that come from a similar background as myself and where I grew up and be able to connect and inspire like my teacher did me. Courses I Have Applied for. All of the university courses I am applying for are all in drama, acting, performance or in that field. The one I am most interested in being University Of East London's BA (Hons) in Drama, Applied Theatre & Performance. As well as the University of Greenwich to study Drama BA (Hons). Why? I have applied for Drama courses as they link directly into the career I want to achieve. Furthermore they are a part of the path and progression into the requirements of being a teacher. Once I have attained the degree, I want to progress onto doing my PGCE in Secondary Drama so I am qualified to become a teacher. The reasoning for UEL’s course being the one I am most interested in because one of the contents of the course is Applied theatre. Applied theatre is all about drama in conventional places, drama as a therapy etc. It was originally and still used to evoke thought, raise awareness and inform, which I believe will really benefit and facilitate my becoming of being a teacher as I will be informing and teaching students as a profession. UEL also offers A PGCE in secondary drama which was an amazing discovery, with the assumption I love the university and get the required grade (2.2) I ca go straight onto the course. University of Greenwich was also an interest of mine because not only was it local like I wanted, but too set me onto the right path to becoming a teachers. The content Is more about the history of drama and performance techniques, which will rally help as it will similar to what I will be teaching. More on next slide
  • 5. Personal Career Aims. Entry Requirements and Qualifications Needed. University of East London: 112 UCAS points, A level: must include passes at A2 in at least two subjects BTEC: Extended Diploma (QCF) or Diploma (QCF) International Baccalaureate: Diplomas with 24 points including a minimum of 15 points at Higher Level Grade C in GCSE English and Maths. Expected to attend an audition and interview. https://www.uel.ac.uk/Undergraduate/Courses/BA-Hons-Drama-Applied- Theatre-and-Performance University of Greenwich: ”112 UCAS points, which should include at least 96 points from A2 A-levels. You'll also need GCSEs at grade C or above in English and mathematics.
