Haven’t we met
before?

1. Reintroducing
yourself
You meet someone who have you met in the
past time.
You can begin your conversation with
question :
- Aren’t you Safira?
Or if you’re not sure of her/his name, you
can ask something about her/him.
Ex:
- Aren’t you from Pariaman?
- I think we met at post office last month.
And then you reintroducing yourself.
2. Identifying someone and
being told you are
mistaken
You meet someone and you feel, you
have met in the past time. And you guess
something about her and apparently you
are mistaken.
Ex :
A : Are you Safira?
B : No, I am not
A : Oh, sorry
3. asking wHetHer you’ve
met before
You meet someone and you feel, you’ve
met in the past time. But you aren’t sure
and you ask her/him whether you’ve met
before.
You can give question like this:
- Excuse me, haven’t we met before?
- Excuse me, haven’t I met you before?
4. Introducing another
person
You introduce your friend to another friend.
Before you introduce them, you have to
ask whether they have met before or know
each other.
Ex : have you two met before.
If they haven’t met before you can
introduce them.
Ex: well, let me introduce you,then.
Endang, this is my friend, tia.
5. Talking about
occupations
After introducing, you can continue with
talking about occupations.
If you introduce another person, you can
continue with introducing their
occupations.
Ex:
A :Ellen is a doctor
B : oh really?
6. Introducing another
person more formally
If you want to introduce another person
more formally, you have to use “I’d like”.
For ex:
- Excuse me, Sir. I’d like to introduce Ellen
Peters. Ms peters is a doctor.
Conversation
Situation,
Sil meets someone at internet store. She feels, she has met
before but she isn’t sure. Then she asks her.
Sil : Excuse me. Haven’t we met before?
Endang : I don’t think so.
Sil : you are Anita’s friend?
Endang: Yes that’s right.
Sil : I think I met you at Anita’s party last month.
Endang: Oh, really?
Sil : Well anyway, my name is Syafrisil and you can call
me sil.
Endang: I’m Endang Wahyuni and you can call me Endang.
Nice to meet you.
Sil : Nice to meet you too.
Suddenly, via comes.
Via : hai sil!
Sil : hai!
Via : Have you been long here?
Sil : Not yet.
Have you two met before? (while seeing to Via and
Endang)
Via : I don’t think we have.
Sil : well, let me introduce you, then.
Endang, this is my friend, sovia. She is my
classmate.
Via, this is Endang.
Via : Nice to meet you.
Endang: Nice to meet you too.
Via : Are you a student in STKIP?
Endang: Yes I’m.
Via : What student are you?
Endang: I’m a mathematic student.
Via : oh really? What semester are you now?
Endang: I’m in semester four now.
Via : owh…. You are my senior apparently.
Endang: yeah…(while smiling)
Sil : by the way, what time is it now?
Endang: it is at 1.15 AM
Sil : We have to go to class now.
Via : yes, you are right.
Sil & Via: See you next time Endang.
Endang : See you.
