Effects of unemployment include increased poverty, exploitation of workers, and political instability. Strategies to reduce unemployment involve using more labor-intensive technologies, investing in agriculture and industry, education and health programs, and promoting services and employment growth. Unemployment is a serious issue that negatively impacts individuals and economies.

 Unemployment, also referred to as joblessness, occurs when people
are without work and are actively seeking employment.
 During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences high
unemployment rates.
There are many proposed causes, consequences, and solutions for
unemployment.

3. DEFINATIONS
• Unemployment is defined as a situation where someone of working
age is not able to get a job but would like to be in full-time
employment.
• Unemployment, according to the OECD ( organisation for Economic
Co-operation and Development), is persons above a specified age
(usually 15) not being in paid employment or self-employment but
currently available for work during the reference period.

factories is only for the summer. Similarly ice-cream sellers remain unemployed during winter
and chestnut-sellers during summer.
 3. Structural Unemployment:
• Structural unemployment results from a variety of causes. It may be due to lack of the co-
operant factors of production, or changes in the economic structure of the society.
4. Disguised Unemployment:
• Disguised or concealed unemployment or underemployment is a notable feature of
underdeveloped countries. Such unemployment is not voluntary but involuntary
