This document summarizes a study on "deja reviewers", or people who write similar reviews to ones that have already been posted. The study analyzed over 98,000 Amazon reviews and interviewed 20 prolific reviewers. It found that amateur reviewers saw writing reviews as a cathartic process and were less concerned with originality, while professional reviewers aimed to stand out from others and build their personal brand. The researchers propose that review sites could help address the "problem of scale" by better utilizing unique, high-quality reviews to rise above repetitive content.
