2. Ultrasound guided breast biopsy
 An ultrasound guided breast biopsy uses sound waves to help diagnosis of
lump or abnormality and remove a tissue sample for examination under a
microscope.
 It is less invasive procedure.
 In this procedure no involve exposure to ionizing radiation.
 Mammography, ultrasound and other exam not detect lumps or
abnormalities in the breast then perform the breast biopsy.
 These test can not always tell a growth is benign or cancerous.
 In breast biopsy to remove a small amount of tissue from a suspicious area
for lab analysis.
 The doctor may perform a biopsy surgically.

3. Indications
 Lesion that interfere with local function.
 Tumour seen on x-ray and USG report.
 To know the nature of lesion.
 Cyst or lump formation
Contraindications
Uncooperative patient.
 Allergy from medication.
 Abnormal coagulation indics
 sepsis/Septicemia( infection in whole body)

4. Patient preparation
 Informed written consent.
 All Previous blood reports.
 BT(3-6 min), CT(2-9min) reports.
 Wear the hospital gown and remove the all jewelry.
 Ask the patient about recent illness or other medical conditions
 Pre procedure targeted ultrasound examination
 Diazepam 5-10 mg.[ anxiolytic agent]

5. MATERIALS REQUIRED
 Ultrasound machine
 Betadine solution
 Tru-cut biopsy needle (tissue is taken from lump)
 Cotton gauge/ dry swab
 Spirit
 Lignocaine
 Adhesive tape
 Dressing set
 Sterile glove
 Scalpel blade

6. procedure
 The patient may be position supine on patient table
 Apply the skin antisepsis.
 The entry site is measured and marked on the skin site for needle insertion
 The length of needle insertion is measured on the images.
 Use the local anesthesia.
 A small incision is made with blade.
 Ultrasound guided introduction of tru-cut biopsy needle and removal of tissue
 Local compression may be necessary to stop bleeding
 Skin cleansing and dressing

8. Complications
 Hematoma
 Pain
 Bleeding
 Swelling at the biopsy site.
 Infection

9. After care
 After the procedure take chest X-ray.
 Patient should rest and avoid lifting & straining
 Patient should be monitored for any further discomfort.
